I'm sure you've all had about the missing sub that disappeared whilst exploring the depths of the wreckage of The Titanic.
Well as is the case when these things happen despite millions hoping for the best, there is no happy ending here. The sub known as Titan is heavily believed to have imploded as a debris field has been found.
Pay your respects here for those lost in this tragedy.

It's probably preferable to suffocation, honestly.

If nothing else I really hope this whole thing will serve as a teachable moment about why regulations actually super matter and aren't just there for funsies.

If the airplane has one button and the pilot is flying it with an off brand video game controller, I'm looking for a different airline.
Certainly not paying $250k for the privilege of being a passenger.

And, of course, the "go woke, go broke" crowd have proven there's no depths they won't sink to (I tried to avoid the pun) to push their agenda and seized upon a video where the CEO talked about not hiring "50 year-old white guys" because it's "not inspirational."
Or – and just hear me out on this – maybe it was because the 50 year-old white guys were telling the CEO his janky submersible was a death trap?

The clips and quotes of the CEO mocking safety precautions are absolutely horrifying.

Can’t help but think of Bill Paxton in the opening scene of Titanic how it would be “Sayonara in two microseconds.”
Tragic.

If you live in a big city where rent has exploded, there is a real anti-billionaire sentiment. People making $70-80k/year and still only barely affording rent has left many angry at the system, and have just lost all sympathy for for billionaires who escape to tax havens, like three of the passengers on that ship. I also don't think many were impressed that taxpayer money went into paying for the rescue of people who have skirted these regulations, and did not even bother to get this program regulated by either the Canadian or US government, despite operating on their shores. Not wishing death on anyone, but explaining why people feel this way

Sad but unfortunately expected. This thing was never going to withstand the sort of pressure they intended to put it under. My thoughts mostly go out to the 19-year-old who was dragged into this. Everyone else should've known better and not dismissed the years of warnings they received.

It's tragic but honestly what were they thinking? That thing looked about as safe as if I went down there in a fish tank.

Not wishing death on anyone, but explaining why people feel this way I've seen a lot of this attitude and it's really kind of gross. One of the victims was a 19 year old kid there with his dad. If the people had done something demonstrably wrong, fine. But thinking someone deserves to die just because they've got a lot of money is creepy as hell.

Not wishing death on anyone, but explaining why people feel this way I understand the "f*** billionaires" sentiment, even if I don't agree with making fun of people dying, but what I'm talking about is different. It's "anti-woke" types who are rich themselves and worship at the altar of Musk banging the drum because it serves their narrative.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm glad that they did the right thing and attempted to rescue them.

I just want to say that it's entirely possible to hate billionaires and still think that this was a horrible thing to happen. The real tragedy is the regulations they skirted around were there for THEIR safety.
I suppose one could view this as a cautionary tale of how power corrupts in a away.

This submersible was shoddy at best. I’ve seen at least two other people that tried to do this ride say that their voyages were delayed due to electrical and other issues with one guy opting not to go at all and the other trip being called off before they hit depth.
If I were a billionaire and wanted to take a submarine to see the Titanic I wouldn’t ride on that piece of shit. Could probably make a nice donation and get a ride on a real military submarine. One where you could stand up, there’s a bathroom and food, and you know that it is going to hold up to the rigors of the ocean.
RIP to the victims though.

I don’t hate people because they have more money than me, even if it’s an absolutely absurd amount of money. To think it’s funny that they died is despicable. And there’s a lot of unjustified hate out there just because the people who died were rich. I don’t know any of these people other than they’re all dead.
It was dangerous and I’m sure that’s what excited most of the people who went on the “adventure”
It just seemed like it was doomed from the onset. And hearing one person when they saw the submersible just backed out the day of should have been the a red light for everybody.
