Think the other thing we have to factor is All Out is the week after so you can easily either have an FTR rematch if they win for All In and a world title match for All Out or the other way around.

One of my favorite stories WCW ever did was the friendship of Sting and Lex. Sting, the world's most trusting dope, told everyone that would listen that Lex wouldn't stab him in the back. And for once, he was right. Lex might have been a unlikeable jackass, but he was always there for Sting. By the time the NWO rolled around, Lex had officially proven himself. This feels like a modern retelling of that story. Yes, MJF and Cole are very different characters. But the idea is the same. Cole, like Surfer Sting before him, believes his buddy is a decent guy despite his history. Roddy is the skeptical WCW locker room. I loved it 1996, and I still love it in 2023. Luger and Sting's friendship was a great bit of continuity in WCW. Them boys beat Arn and Tully for the Crocket Cup! |

I really dont mean to ruin anyone else's fun or come off as a negative nancy here but...I don't like this bit at all.
I've missed a few weeks of watching so don't know the full context of the team, but it looks like they're doing MJF as an insincere face, faux bromance with Cole, they're super buddies but actually they're each waiting to turn on the other. Which sure, whatever, that's a fun gimmick, so I don't need further context about the team. That's not what bothers me, it's how it's presented.
The match against Garcia/Guevara just....I didn't like it at all. It felt like a parody of wrestling, rather than wrestling. The danceoff...eh not my thing but whatever, comedy bit. But the whole match itself, from MJF's OTT mugging and selling with the dive teases or the 'I'm dazed and about to fall in his crotch' spot. The fact the double clothesline is simultaneously a finisher and a joke finisher. It just all felt more like 4 guys taking the piss out of wrestling and not taking the conceit of the show seriously, metacomedy rather than comedy. And I'm so f***ing tired of metacomedy, I want to be able to lose myself into the show and the kayfabe.
The promo in the restaurant had the same vibe, even down to the camera cuts etc. making it a very obviously acted pretape, and Excalibur's hucky links. This is a problem AEW has now and then for me, like Jungle Boy's pretape. It just doesn't feel like there's a ton of in universe coherency or reason to buy into or take the concept seriously. I'm not a Cornette style, 'all wrestling has to be serious' type but I don't like stuff that breaks the suspension of disbelief or is too ironic.
So yeah. Not a fan, and I normally love MJF's work.

I'd run with this while it's hot, MJF VS Cole is not essential for All In.

I'm getting heavy 2005 Eddie/Batista vibes from them. Sadly that obviously didn't reach whatever the conclusion was planned to be but it's a similar deal with everyone thinking it's when not if the heel will strike but also in the back of your mind you're like what if he's actually being genuine and isn't going to do the thing this time.

I’ve been loving this team of Cole and MJF. I have the biggest smile on my face during their matches. I just don’t want this to end, but like everyone else I’m waiting for the MJF backstabbing.
I had to laugh last week when Roddy walked up to Renee shouting “ADAAAMMMMM!!!” 😂
