Unless this match gets booked again soon this was Cole’s chance to win the title and screw over MJF. For long stretches of this match it looked like this was the direction it was going. But when push came to shove Cole couldn’t do it. In front of 80 thousand in the biggest main event ever for the title he couldn’t betray MJF. That must count for something.

Tony Khan had a rare non-announcement appearence in a backstage segment with them. MJF also tried to lead a thankyou Tony chant at Wembley after the show. I got a horrible feeling TK slowly establishing an onsceen presense and relationship with them both for a reason.
When the bidding war of 2024 angle starts heating up I think Cole will win the title via screw job.
Then the story becomes if Cole was in on it or not. The eventual justification of having to betray MJF because he thought he was leaving him writes itself.

Kind of taken aback to see such visceral negative reactions from some people I follow on twitter/wrestling podcasts I listen to to the All In main event- some see it as some massive affront to AEW and what it stands for?
Now I was there live and all 81 thousand people ate this up. I mean, ate it up and screamed for more. It was the most involved I've ever seen a wrestling crowd be in a match. I don't get this 'it was too WWE, there was no workrate' take I'm seeing in places.
What was the consensus on here in the live thread and since on this match?

I'd love to know if there was ever a plan for one to betray the other here and they changed their minds when they saw how over the team was, or if friendship was always going to prevail?

Especially when you look at the start of the feud. Was pretty cold and fairly laughable idea that they would headline 80k in Wembley. Was this always the plan and they somehow knew it would work or did they chance on the fly as it went along.

I'm sure the original idea was that Cole going along with MJF not trusting him, there being a genuine connection and MJF then seeing the footage or Cole scheming with Roddy. I suspect there was minimal plans beyond that but maybe MJF was always going to be understanding because he'd do the same. However it worked so well they pivoted early, admitted they were planning to betray each other and took it from there. It was all so unusually structured that I don't think they could plan it, everything depended on crowd reactions.

I have long thought that Roddy Strong has the most heelish voice in all of wrestling so I appreciate them leaning into that

I think the plan was always to headline Wembley, since the first match ended in a tie and the tag tournament seemed like a way to keep both busy until they could do the build to the match itself, but the way it happened and the people's reaction to the team could not be planned at all? Like, I'm still surprised they didn't have either turn at the end of the tag title match never mind All In.

I figure most of it went as planned, but they saw crowd reaction and decided to add in the ROH tag titles to everything just to keep them going after Wembley.

Face MJF works against other faces because he isn't just a typical baby face. He's a reforming heel who can't help himself sometimes with relapses. But he works hard to overcome them. It makes him really sympathetic and relatable to anyone with mental health struggles. And when he does cheat here and there, we just shake our heads and chuckle "Oh, Maxwell." He kinda reminds me a bit of Eddie Guerrero near the end.

I think the original idea was the ol "mjf pretends to like the guy" except Cole would see it coming because he is also a scumbag and would outplay him.which I think is referenced in the promo that both guys admit they were planning to double cross each other
But honestly ,if they didn't go this route and it didn't catch fire ,it would no be a main event fitting for wembley.
Cole vs Mjf was nowhere near as hot to be the biggest main event of the show

I hope Roddy gets "ADDDAMMMMMMM" as his entrance intro even when he's not feuding with Cole.

ADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!! Been watching Rodrick for quite a while now. While he's always been great in the ring, this is by far the best character work he's ever done.
