Last week in the UK and Ireland, according to statistics, was the highest box office week in history. As in since records began. Since ever.
Light House alone, for example, sold over 10,000 tickets for both which for them is their busiest week ever.
And clearly the right answer isn’t good, well marketed movies with artists allowed more reign, it’s “more toy movies!”

Hollywood: "Is that sarcasm? No, can't be. Anyway:" Do they still make Polly Pocket? The correct question is "they don't make enough Mighty Max?"

Anyway:" This is so blatant it’s actually hilarious. You can tell the corporate meeting went “who’s another famous female director that we can match up with a female-centric toy brand?” I’m guessing Sofia Coppola didn’t return their calls.

Barbie's apparently done over $300 million worldwide so far. It keeps doing this well and it will make back all the money WBD lost on the last few DCEU bombs. Cue their utter bafflement when their $400 million budget Polly Pocket movie loses money. The dark prophecy is coming to pass.

Anyway:" The fact Variety had a whole “exclusive” list of every movie in production and whose attached so far is just the ultimate example of my point. You could give Greta Gerwig a blank cheque on anything she wants to make after making them and cinemas a lot of money and make people excited about it coming from actual creatives but I guess movie executives have got a 100+ year stereotype of being consistently out of touch to keep up with.

And to make it worse, apparently Gerwig has been offered a blank cheque... to make a Barbie sequel. Credit to her, she's said she's not interested.

The Iron Claw movie and the Aquaman sequel are both coming out at the same time,,anyone want to try to start some Aquaclaw thing (Aquaclaw sounds like a second-tier Image comics title from 1993)?

Lena Dunham is definitely no Greta Gerwig. Arguably no one is, that’s why any attempt to replicate Barbie by just giving a female director a toy brand is going to turn out awful.

Let her do something so you can attach “From the Director of Barbie” on it, that does a lot of marketing legwork. Like, she’s already doing the Narnia films for Netflix, let her have something she can bite into.

It’ll be interesting to see how Barbie and Oppenheimer do on their second weekend. Their successes were heavily driven by FOMO due to the Barbenheimer shit. More then flick I can remember in awhile, their release felt like a true event and I’m curious if they can hold any of that momentum or if people have moved passed it already Here’s your answer:

We're going to go from being flooded with superhero movies to being flooded with toy properties.
That said, Barbie was a fun time at the movies. Seeing Oppenheimer in a week or so.
