I really don't agree with this at all and think it's extremely insulting to Jack Perry himself He is extremely talented, and is still a prospect for the company at 26 You cannot just plug in indie guys and expect them to be the exact same as someone else either. I really find the way some people are treating Jack, and some wrestlers in general, as some expendable and replaceable objects in this thread really f***ing concerning. It's a good thing none of ya'll run an actual wrestling promotion the way wrestlers are discussed like pawns in an EWR game sometimes and not actual humans. Yeah, it is insulting, but it’s true. While i think he’s done better in this heel role, he’s largely just been a babyface who goes out there and wrestles. In large, there’s nothing specifically captivating or interesting about him. He just goes out there and has an athletic match and there are TONS of those on the indies. Any one of them could do the exact same thin. He’s been doing. It's insulting, and no it's not true. Nothing captivating about him, meanwhile he has had entire crowds behind him and singing Tarzan Boy at every show, and has had people booing the shit out of him for being a shithead heel as well. He's done plenty to keep crowds invested either way he's been presented, and no, not everyone can do the exact same thing and be like that with crowds. Acting like all Jack is is "Athletic like a hundred other Indie Guys" isn't true, and it is insulting, like this shit is disgusting and I wish this thread wouldn't continue if that's what it's going to turn into.

For the record i don’t think Jack Perry should be fired because of the thing with Punk. I simply think he’s nothing special and is absolutely replaceable, therefore doesn’t hold much value. Yeah, really gross. Thanks for clarifying that your statement is gross though!

Hey, you’re allowed to be a fan, I’m allowed not to be. The point remains that’s if you threw Jordan Oliver, Nick Wayne, or another athletic dude that wrestles would be just as effective. I bet if you gave one of them a catchy ass song they crowd would do the same thing.

Yes, fire Perry and hire that young go-getter Hulk Hogan Carlos Colon. He'll take the company to the next level. Fixed for accuracy

Nick Wayne is already employed and was just in a main event Showing these guys can co-exist and no one has to be replaced with anybody.

It’s a ridiculous take and even reading the title makes me laugh but people who are saying this is what the Bish wants are 100% right and people are feeding into it.
I was shocked this was 6 pages.

'Fire this guy, he's got a track record of immaculate behaviour but got into one fight with a proven asshole who had already attacked co-workers and went on to try and attack his boss. He's not ready and could be replaced with any indie guy with a catchy theme, despite being over before he got the themesong.'
'Why can't AEW produce homegrown talent? They just sign indie, New Japan and former WWE guys!'
Never forget Eric Bischoff's track record when it comes to talent relations, he fired Austin, fired Foley, gutted the WCW midcard when ratings slid in 1998 without doing anything about the main event, hired Bret, denied ever wanting Bret despite all the interviews he gave to the contrary and buried him while he was the hottest free agent in wrestling...

Punk feels like a classic "missing stair" situation where everyone is used to working around him because they know he's volatile, and when someone sets him off it's seen as their fault, not the violent idiots.

Eric's opinions are negated by having Bret Hart on his roster and ruining him

I'm surprised THIS thread isn't the one that got locked. This is a circular, inane discussion about a really bad take. Guy says something bone-headed, people debate the merits of it for six pages. Yow.

I don't think the "He fired Steve Austin!" argument hold as much water as most do, because Austin being fired is the main catalyst to him becoming Stone Cold. Don't really see him evolving into the mega-super-star he became if he were to stay in WCW. Especially at the time with Hulk and friends at the top. Ditto Foley.
Eric Bischoff is a click-bait creator who makes money saying controversial stuff.

Jack Perry is really good. He and Luchasaurus made for a fantastic duo that was one of the few kid friendly acts the company had, they put on high quality matches and deserved their run with the Tag Team titles. And it took a while, but Jack found a footing as a solo act and his feud with HOOK was a good start for his Heel run.
And most importantly of all, he helped Christian out hugely, that dude might never have found a new catchphase if it wasn't for Jungle Boy.

Austin was well regarded in WCW off the blondes and dangerous alliance, he had more upside and it's business being pushed than Brutus Beefcake.

Jack is a great talent who delivers matches that you can't do with just any random indie guy off the street. But his true value is that AEW fans have essentially watched him grow up before their eyes. They saw him lose and lose and lose as a rookie. They saw him finally breakthrough in 2021. They saw him win a title, lose it and his mentor, defeat his mentor, have a crisis of confidence, and turn his back on everyone. You may personally not be the biggest fan of Jack Perry but it's important for any wrestling company to keep someone around if they can when they have told so many stories in front of their audience. He is deeply imbedded in the history of AEW and he should continue to be a part of it assuming he behaves.

He might be a star by the time he gets back from suspension, I can see crowds giving him a hero’s welcome when he returns.

No doubt about that, Austin was one for the furure and with a higher ceiling than Beefcake etc, but I find it very, very difficult to see how he becomes Stone Cold over and big if he stays in WCW, which seems to be the implied meaning of the "He fired Steve Austin!" argument. Do you see it? I'm genuinely curious.

Calling for a company to fire a guy because you specifically don't think he'll ever be a star is probably top 3 in the "dumbest wrestling takes" category. Nevermind the fact Jack Perry was consistently over with crowds as a face, but there's been countless examples in wrestling where a guy hadn't found his groove yet, finds his groove, and becomes a top act.
Imagine if WWE fired Rocky Maivia because he wasn't a top star, or The Ringmaster, or Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Not everything happens right the hell now.
