I am happy to respond to this in good faith - but I feel like you are equating things that are not equivalent The people I know who have done the things that Ric Flair have are not being publicly platformed and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is the difference I am a huge believer in restorative justice. I don't think prison time helps people. If you go to the Sunny thread, you will find that I have found people's desire to come for her head distasteful even though unlike Flair, she actually killed someone I don't necessarily think Flair should be in prison. But he faced zero consequences for the plane ride situation at the time, and when it was on DSOTR years later the consequence was 'we'll sign you later when the heat dies down.' I am not against Flair having fun. But he can have fun without being on TV. I am not against wrestlers having a point of view about his actions and still being his friend. People do not become LESS like Flair by being isolated from people. But those wrestlers are all publicly being intellectually dishonest. There is no way they don't know what Flair is accused of. Some of them were on the same flight. And they all just talk about 'uhhh people just hate Flair being Flair.' And it is especially tart coming from AEW when Tony got all the cool points for banning Hogan - who, and I cannot believe I am saying this, said a bunch of heinous shit in private during a consensual sexual encounter rather than killing anyone or assaulting anyone - because Hogan was already unpopular and being ostracised. Flair, who was always more actually liked than Hogan and respected by the industry, gets a pass. If Flair disappeared from the public eye and learned and grew and showed a shred of actual remorse, maybe I would feel just a bit differently. Ok don't think I'm being a jerk here but a guy who did things Flair has done was elected President... psst, hey rule number 1.

What about elected to WWE hall of fame? 1. NO RELIGION/POLITICS: No religious or current political discussions regarding the real world. No imagery of politicians or negative/mocking imagery of religious figures. We'll define "current" as Pre-1975/Nixon Era is okay for discussion/debate insomuch as it does not relate to the current day. Topics in entertainment that allude to a political topic, or person, yet are not blatant are allowed as long as it stays within the confines of entertainment and does not crossover into the real world topic that it is depicting. saying that former president is in the wwe hall of fame is fine, the framing of the post I originally quoted was leading only one way.

i do find it interesting that everyone has a blind spot with flair. he is one of the all time greats no doubt about it and sure it is disappointing but i can't say i'm surprised? Not that I'm defending the guy, but Hulk Hogan was raked over the coals for backstage politics, getting his friends hired and burying people he didn't like, but those are all things someone like Flair did as well. People really would hand wave anything as long as someone has workrate. Even Dave Meltzer for years would take Flair's side on any situation that was happening, simply because he was a mark for the guy. yeah that's part of what i was thinking of when i made the post, how is it that hogan gets destroyed yet wrestlers fall over themselves for this guy? its just weird. they were both ultra popular and the reaction couldn't be more different

Even then, he got a lot of passes from the wrestling world. WWE still thought he was fine enough to bring back as recently as January of this year for Raw is XXX.

Repeating what I said weeks ago: I wish just once one of his kids, whatever wife he's married to at the moment, or promoter he's trying to sucker would tell him "I love you, but you're 74. Please don't. Just enjoy being alive." instead of enabling the f*** out of him.

definitely more blatant and public, got lots of passes but at least for me I can't remember a ton of people coming to his defense ever quite like this. I'd also say all of it is even stranger because what is acceptable to the general public has changed a LOT since hogan's worst days with gawker and the like. they're both pieces of shit but this time feels surprisingly overboard with the amount of defending him

I'm sure Charlotte has said that to him, she did respond to the instagram post of Ric training for his final match with "WTF Dad".

A lot of the people who give Flair a pass today weren't even alive for the prime of his run, and if anything, Hogan's own workrate is pretty underrated. The people who really navel gaze about workrate are more likely to know about his great NJPW run for instance.
Though I think if you grew up a fan of non-WWE promotions, you probably have some more resentment towards Hogan compared to Flair because of the perception that his politicking tanked WCW and TNA's products and contributed to their downfall. Flair was at worst a sad, but inoffensive fossil in TNA.

that second part is a good point, Hogan's wrestling business persona (if he was a persona he'd be the P3 or P5 dancing games, straight ass) is one of destruction and contributing to people losing jobs. flairs is not, even if he is imo a total POS. they're watching out for their own bread in some cases

It's a side thing but I'll never stop rolling my eyes at wrestlers whining about dirt sheets because at the end of the day it's really just bitching that journalism covering their sport exists.

Yeah how often do you hear about like a baseball player complaining that a sports journalist is talking about their contract options

My sources indicate Ric Flair glues a hand made poster to his locker room door every week. Here are the contents:
