Also just going to say... I hate the way James Somerton's way of talking. He just comes off as having such a smug, I know better than you manner of speech. I have no emotional stake in this, I only know Todd as a YouTuber and have only watched like 8 minutes of his video, but James Somerton strikes me as one of those people that their entire personality is based upon their sexuality. Yes, and how would you like your steak cooked? Well, I am gay, so obviously I want it medium well. Like the guy with the naked lady mud flaps on his F150 and still subscribes to Maxim magazine for some reason. Or as Doug Stanhope said, "Gay or straight, if I know your sexuality within 30 seconds of meeting you, you're f***ing irritating" my issue isn't with his sexuality or stating his sexuality openly or whatever.. it's entirely to do with his manner of speech in these videos. He has a very smug and arrogant tone that sounds like he's talking down to you. especially when you know anything about what he's talking about and you realize he has absolutely no idea what the f*** he is talking about. |

It's sad what happened to Cinemassacre but that's a minor bit of this whole video. I've heard of Illuminaughti before through her MLM stuff... she randomly came up on a recommended and listed to it and I do think it seemed like she was reading from wikipedia. I've never heard of this James Somerton guy... but holy shit he seems like a massive scumbag. Besides the terrible whole cloth plagiarism... and there's the open and rampant Misogyny... and well I'm only half way through his section but it just keeps going...
That was my thought as well when he gets to him. and now Todd in the Shadows has his own 2 hour video talking about how much he sucks... Jeez... and in that he mentions Elisa his vampire expert, who helped him fact check James's vampire video... and she decided to add this bit on twitter. |

James has since removed his Twitter account and Patreon with the standard apology  This is the kind of shit I would send to a girlfriend when I knew I f***ed up to try and get her to forgive me without any indication I was going to change my behaviour He literally ripped off his entire career, why the f*** would anyone go anywhere near him now? I haven't watched this video yet but I did see people rushing to defend Internet Historian over it even though 1), him plagiarizing stuff has been floating around for awhile anyway, and 2), even outside of that he kind of has just done a lot of stuff of late that makes him come off like a massive asshole. I watched a couple of his videos a few years ago, and then basically got turned off by the exact same one Harris did. His videos were mostly, broadly, kinda harmless fun, and then he just revealed himself to be, at best, ableist and possibly a bit anti-semitic. At least that shit was his own original bullshit, though! Ahh that cinemassacre section answered some questions I always had about those screen wave guys. Like, who are they? And what do they do and why does everyone hate them? Also, saw the original monster madness plagiarism video. One of the creators Harris names at the end has a whole video about the Cinemassacre backlash that goes in on the Screenwave situation. And it really does seem like they kinda suck, and just contribute little of value even if you discount their dragging the Nerd's work down, plagiarism or Justin's extremely racist early internet sketches |

I was reading somewhere following this story (since I know next to nothing about these people) that at one point he hosted viewings of Tucker Carlson's show in his Discord with the hopes of redpilling fans who weren't clued into his own politics. No idea if it's true, but there you go. I also remember someone tried to cite him as a source on the Wiki article for the Balloon Boy hoax. Not his fault, but still gets a chuckle out of me. |

This situation got put on my radar by Todd in the Shadow’s video.
Even without delving into politics too far, all I need to know about James Somerton to despise him is that he unironically repeats the “all of the artistic, creative, fun rebellious and radical gays died in the AIDS epidemic, and that’s why gay politics became so boring and normie-dominated afterward” talking point.
I encountered that talking point when I was first coming out of the closet and exploring the LGBT community years ago, and even back then as a naive and uneducated baby gay, a voice in my head was telling me that that statement sounded absolutely psychotic on so many levels. To hear it years later parroted seriously is all I need to know to identify this guy as an absolute ghoul.
