Cause I watch a lot of history of stuff videos on youtube I get recommend a ton of those “history” videos which are basically somebody reading a Wikipedia entry or wiki verbatim over videos from one of those online stock footage libraries.
But holy shit, the people covered in this video. Their egos must be gigantic to think they can do this and get away with it.

But holy shit, the people covered in this video. Their egos must be gigantic to think they can do this and get away with it. The sheer shamelessness of some of them. Illuminaughti straight up just using the exact same script as the Fyre Fest documentary down to basically just re-recording large chunks and linking to the hulu documentary as a source on a piracy website was sheer chef's kiss. I'd never even heard of James Somerton before but he stole everything, Harris could have done an even deeper dive on him. |

It's sad what happened to Cinemassacre but that's a minor bit of this whole video.
I've heard of Illuminaughti before through her MLM stuff... she randomly came up on a recommended and listed to it and I do think it seemed like she was reading from wikipedia.
I've never heard of this James Somerton guy... but holy shit he seems like a massive scumbag.
Besides the terrible whole cloth plagiarism... and there's the open and rampant Misogyny... and well I'm only half way through his section but it just keeps going...

I haven't watched this video yet but I did see people rushing to defend Internet Historian over it even though 1), him plagiarizing stuff has been floating around for awhile anyway, and 2), even outside of that he kind of has just done a lot of stuff of late that makes him come off like a massive asshole.

He covered Internet Historian's man in cave video for admittedly petty reasons (he was third on a best videos of 2022 with his OOF.mp3 video and IH was second with his Man in Cave video) but he notes that it's rare that anyone gets busted for plagiarism with only their first offence and that if you did deep enough then you'll inevitably find that Internet Historian is a prominent plagiarist. I have no emotional stake in this, I only know Todd as a YouTuber and have only watched like 8 minutes of his video, but James Somerton strikes me as one of those people that their entire personality is based upon their sexuality. Yes, and how would you like your steak cooked? Well, I am gay, so obviously I want it medium well. Like the guy with the naked lady mud flaps on his F150 and still subscribes to Maxim magazine for some reason. Or as Doug Stanhope said, "Gay or straight, if I know your sexuality within 30 seconds of meeting you, you're f***ing irritating" |
