94-Killer Klowns from Outer Space-Scream Factory 4k Steelbook
One of the best horror theme songs of all time. Pure fun from start to finish.
Looks amazing sounds good, don't have my full sound system set up in the living room yet.
8.6 inflatable rafts in the back of a car of 10
95-Children of the Corn 2023-RLJE 4k Steelbook
She bought this today thinking it was the original. I already own it on DVD.
Not the worst COTC film. Not even the worst COTC remake/reboot. But not worth the 30 bucks this cost.

Another strong entry in the Melissa Barrera Horror Cinematic Universe. This has the most random cast ever and I love it. [***½]

Yeah, it's six hours of Disney patting themselves on the back but as someone going to Disney World this year, it was still very cool. [****]

It lacks the charm of the first film and isn't as fun but it's also harmless. [**]

173. TARGETS (1968) Boris Karloff's last "big" movie is essentially him playing an aging horror star reflecting on his career while regretfully acknowledging the real horrors of existence (such as mass shooters). As he decides to retire, a random man decides to become a mass shooter for no given reason because sometimes there isn't a reason. The two stories come to a head at the star's last public appearance before retirement at a drive-in presentation of his last film. It's an amazing film, in all honesty, that hits as hard today as it probably did back then.
174. SOUL MATES (2023) What if SAW-like tactics were applied to the dating scene? Two people wake up chained together with a mysterious figure called The MatchMaker promising them that they're perfect for each other before putting them through a series of traumatic events in an attempt to link them together forever.
It's an absurd premise that gets its mileage out of manipulating the first date format (Getting to Know Each Other, Dinner & a Movie, etc). The third act really tanked it for me, though. Felt like the movie wanted a twist but didn't have the SAW-like ability to pull it off.
175. FROM NOON TILL THREE (1976) Charles Bronson stars as a bank robber who has a nightmare that the next heist will be his last, so he shoots his horse and lies about a widowed woman (played by Bronson's wife Jill Ireland) not having one in her barn so they'll leave him behind. He then aggressively seduces her in an incredibly rough manner (Do you want wacky music playing over a scene where she refuses to acknowledge him as he forces himself onto her? No? Well, don't watch this one, then). He finally eases her onto his wills by lying about being impotent and her the "cure" for his disease.
All this leads down an insane path where they have a mild romantic comedy outing until a kid from town tells them Bronson's gang was captures and she insists he go rescue them because she knows he'd never forgive her. And from there? This daggone film goes super daggone crazy and kind of amazing.
176. CARNIVAL OF SOULS (1962) A woman involved in a car accident has a series of weird events occur as she attempts to readjust to the world.
Watched as part of Joe Bob's Last Drive-in Show. A rediscovered classic, indeed.
177. ABIGAIL (2024) A movie that has its first act essentially ruined by all advertisements and required to click on items, but once you get to the part that you're waiting for, it goes wild. Really fun watch with a satisfying ending.
178. INFERNO (1999) JCVD is a suicidal drifter bringing a motorcycle to gift to his best friend, a Native American played by Danny Trejo (Uh...). He gets John Wick'd by a local group of thugs who leave him nearly dead and steal his motorcycle, so he pulls a Yojimbo on them by playing them against their rival gang until he gets his revenge, along with the love and admiration of the entire daggone town that's caught in the middle.
This movie feels like JCVD asked for a rewrite to have his character complimented more. You will hear Pat Morita giggle and say, "I bet that guy gets a lot of p****!" You will hear every single woman on screen openly wonder what it'd be like to bang JCVD. You will here multiple men jealous of him. And, the coup de grace, is the "Thank you,"/"You're Welcome" scene between a woman who was being assaulted in a bar and JCVD. Goodness gracious, what a film.
179. THE DEVIL'S MESSENGER (1962) Lon Chaney Jr plays the devil who sends back a woman who committed suicide to do tasks for him with the promise that, since her sin was only on herself, it can be argued for consideration into Heaven. It's an anthology film that takes three episodes of a Swedish show and jams them together with the Lon Chaney Jr wrap around.
First story is a photographer who goes on a trip and meets a woman of astounding beauty who won't let him take her picture. So...he [does a horrible sexual thing] and kills her. However, now the photo he took of her home has her slowly walking forward, getting closer whenever he looks at it.
The second story is a scientist who discovers a woman frozen in ice, but another scientist takes control of the unfreezing process. Driven by a strange lust, the man becomes convinced he's the only one who can save her and must take...drastic actions.
The third story is a guy who goes to a fortune teller who informs him that he'll soon be murdered...by her.
I watched it because Joe Bob Briggs mentioned that Carnival of Souls had 9 minutes edited out of it so it could be shown with this film as a double feature. Couldn't imagine thinking this was the better of the two. Lon Chaney Jr. literally looks like he showed up in his regular clothes to play The Devil.

There's a decent story in there to be told and the actors are doing fine but the writing lets this down so badly. The dialogue is laughable, the characters are all over the place, and there's not a single person worth rooting for. [*½]

32. Welcome to Marwen
An artist who suffered a near fatal beating creates a fantasy world to deal with his trauma. The human part is well acted and very touching. The Marwen part is just kind of strange.

Had a week off sick so got a few in:
44. My Neighbour Totoro My first Ghibli, it's beautiful, superbly made, I was just hoping for a little more from the fantasy side, that's on my expectations but mildly disappointed.
45. Rollerball So very 70s, interesting action they could have taken a bit further, it felt like they needed a little more at the end, either more hopeful or, being the 70s, more nihilistic.
46. Triangle of Sadness This was fantastic, a complex satire, could have easily been "eat the rich" and there is some of that but it is more complicated than that, loved it.
47. Planet of the Apes Where it all started, it was better than I was expecting, though Taylor is such an asshole from the start, I don't mind him getting thrown around a bit. I thought the cliched bits we've seen parodied 1000 times might be a bit cringey but it's all so well done, everything fits, this was brilliant.

96-Pals-DVD
Made for tv movie from 87 with Don Ameche and George C SCott.
They are two retired guys in a trailer park. On a trip to pick up a color tv for Scott's mom they come upon a car trunk with a pile of cash.
They take the money but it is of course owned by the mob. Using this cash they try to start a new life.
Ok at best. Most of the comedy fails. I see why I had never heard of this.
5.4 Killing a mobster by scrambling his pace maker with a tv remote out of 10.

Ok at best. Most of the comedy fails. I see why I had never heard of this. 5.4 Killing a mobster by scrambling his pace maker with a tv remote out of 10. The plot reminds me of an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. A couple are warned about what a seedy place Las Vegas is before vacationing there. They find something like $8,000 on the street. They acknowledge that it’s almost definitely mob money and debate whether they should just leave it. But they decide to do what they think is the right thing and report it to the police. The police take their names and ask for their home address so they can be sent a reward. They leave the station to pack things up so they can get home from their vacation. At the hotel the police come back and tell them they have to go back to the station to answer some additional questions. At the station the police lock them in an interrogation room. It turns out the police are on the payroll of the mob. One interrogator says, “We know you really found $10,000 so you better cough up the other $2,000.” The couple plead and eventually are told they have a phone call. It’s the husband’s mother calling from their home and saying there are some real bad men there so give them what they want. And that’s how the episode ends. It always sticks out to me how it was an open secret that Las Vegas was controlled by the mob while at the same time a huge tourist destination.

Oliver Stone's forgotten 80s film. Barry is a talk radio host in Dallas. About to go national.
Pretty much this could be stage play. Only a few locations and not many people.

112. Twister (1996) - Watched this on Max. I plan to watch "Twisters" at some point. I wanted to revisit this film. It had been a really long time since I last watched this. I remember enjoying it back then. Does it hold up now? I think it does, even though some visual effects are rather dated, but the rest of the effects, like the ones for the tornadoes and the way some debris flew around in the middle of the storm still hold up. I also noticed some practical effects being used, like the part with the truck driving through the house that was blown on the road.
I also thought some parts were funny, especially the breakfast scene. As for anything else, I thought Bill Paxton (RIP) was a likable protagonist in this film, as was Helen Hunt. There were some other characters that I felt were likable, even Jami Gertz's character, who wasn't so bad in hindsight.
Because this came out after "Speed," I would say that this was Jan de Bont's second best film and last good film. Just remember that he did "Speed 2" after this, which was bad. I didn't hate the second "Tomb Raider" film, though. I would say this film still holds up.

A super creative and experimental movie. I applaud it for what it does and though it does get a bit too weird for me at times, it's anchored by the great performance of Helena Howard and the work from the director. [***½]

2024 New Releases
#32 Thelma
Thelma is a movie that I feel we don’t see all that often in cinemas these days - a standalone comedy not based on a pre-existing IP. The movie is about a 93 year old grandmother who gets scammed out of $10,000 then sets out to confront the scammers and get her money back.
I really enjoyed this movie and it had me laughing throughout. The movie's never malicious or cruel with its jokes. Anyone who's spent any time with their grandparents will recognise the kind of ridiculous conversations shown in this movie, especially when it comes to technology. They also have a lot of fun shooting the low-octane movements of elderly people like it was an action movie, with a flight of stairs being treated like Ethan Hunt scaling a building.
June Squibb who plays Thelma is really charming. In the supporting cast is Shaft himself, Richard Roundtree in his final role and this feels like a fitting swan song. As an aside, the guy who play's Thelma’s grandson looks and sounds like you Seth Green so much that it’s almost distracting.
VERDICT: Funny and incredibly charming this was a real surprise amongst the summer schedule and a real treat in general.

113. Deadpool (2016) - Watched this on Blu-ray. As preparation for "Deadpool and Wolverine," I decided to watch this. I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out and I liked it a lot then. I'm starting to wonder if this was the second time that I watched it in full because I know I had seen bits and pieces of it here and there since then.
I know this film was well regarded back then. With this coming out when Marvel Studios put out a lot of films and DC trying their hand in playing catch-up with Marvel (I remember "Batman v. Superman" came out around the same time), this was quite a different spin on the superhero genre. A lot of the elements worked - the humor, the over-exaggerated action scenes, the writing, and Ryan Reynolds's portrayal as the titular character. Plus, I liked how some of the film was framed around the opening scene and then provided backstory before it moved forward.
I still can find some enjoyment, but I am not sure if it's because of how long it had been that in some ways, I feel that this wasn't the best comic book movie that many people said it was during that time. Many elements worked, but I don't consider it great, or maybe it might be my mindset. Or maybe it's because it's somewhat overrated, but again, I can still enjoy it.

33. The Beekeeper
After criminals cause the death of his friend, Jason Stratham goes on a revenge killing spree. The plot is pretty sketchy. The acting is mostly awful. Most every character in the movie makes terrible decisions for no good reason. The only thing that made this watchable is how much fun Jason Stratham was obviously having as he punched, stabbed, shot, strangled, and blew up everybody who stepped in his way.
