114. Deadpool 2 - Watched this on Blu-ray. I was torn between watching the theatrical version and the extended version. I went with the former because it had been a while since I last watched this movie in general, and I wanted to revisit the theatrical cut first before I would watch the extended cut (not sure about watching "Once Upon a Deadpool," which I recall seeing a while back).
With all of that said, I thought it was enjoyable. With a different director at the helm, there were some differences to the predecessor. Also, some of the humor was dialed back a tad because it didn't feel as crude, but there was still some crude humor, nonetheless. As for the action scenes, some of them were entertaining.
I might watch the extended version soon, but I don't know how soon.

48. Australia
A lovely epic film, but it could have probably lost at least half an hour, and Nicole Kidman starts off so cartooney it was annoying but she gets way better.
Hugh Jack man basically playing a low key Logan like role helped, you could even mentally make this one of his lost adventures, a tough loner who's heart is warmed by live and a child, that fits the character so well.

89. Wayne's World 2 (1993) 90. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)So I decided to drag my lazy, depressed ass out of bed to see the first showing of this my theater had. No regrets. It got a little gratuitous at times, and there were some pure comic relief moments that I felt undermined the more serious aspects of the film, but over-all it was a fun movie and a satisfying conclusion to the Fox Marvel universe. {Spoiler}Was not expecting Wesley Snipes to show up either, so that was a nice surprise.

#305 - Mary Poppins Returns (Disney+)
*1st Viewing
Largely fine but even as someone who loves musicals, I just never really got into Mary Poppins. [**½]
#306 - A Cat in Paris (Tubi)
*1st Viewing
More movies need to be both animated and barely 70 minutes. A breezy film with unique animation and an interesting story. [****]
#307 - Deadpool and Wolverine (Theater)
*1st Viewing
This was so much fun. Reynolds and Jackman are electric together and there's a lot of great fan service here. I love that it feels more like a standalone Deadpool 3 than something to further build the MCU. There are some pacing issues and the usual underdeveloped MCU villain but yeah, it was a blast. [****]

115. Deadpool and Wolverine - Saw this in theaters. It must be said - this film is an improvement on "Deadpool 2" and maybe on the first one, too. Not that the other two are bad or anything like that, but I recall people talking about Marvel Studios would water down Deadpool for the MCU. Well, it didn't go there. In fact, it has the same charm as the first two films, as well as it was done in that style with the humor and the over-the-top action. Plus, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had a great dynamic.
I also liked how there were some callbacks to the other Marvel films from 20th Century Fox. It was like a love letter to those films.

98-The Mechanic-DVD
This is the remake with Jason Statham. I know I have seen the original but do not remember it.
Decent action flick. Nice seeing what I am sure was legit NOLA locations. Did sspend a pile of the film looking at extras and stuntmen seeing who all was in it.

99-The Mechanic 2(i can't remember the subtitle)-4k UHD Blu Ray
Got this over a year ago cheap. The pawn shop dude saw the black case thought it was a dvd and gave it to me for that price. Been wanting to see the first one before watching it.
Not as good as the first one. Still not bad. Had no clue Jessica Alba was in this until I saw her names in the credits.

34. Ghostbusters : Frozen Empire
Too many people. Not enough ghosts. The villain was good but he didn’t really show up until about three quarters of the way through the movie. It was okay but not great.

100-From Dusk till Dawn-Showtime on Paramount Plus app
Didn't plan on watching this today. Plan was get up work on some video projects and start those uploading while I packed my gear bag and tote for the Lost Art of Wrestling show tonight.
Walk into kitchen see dad is in living room watching what I think is a western off INSP channel. Normal day. Make sure he dont need a drink or snack.
Go get 3 vids ready go to upload and they wont.... Ahh he is streaming in living room.
Go out and he has on From Dusk till Dawn 3. Claims he has never seen the first one. It is on Paramount Plus.
Really fun film, even if it has that odd switch in tone 40 minutes in.

An absolute spectacle in the best way possible with so much action. That said, the opening act could've been trimmed by like 25 minutes. [****½]

89. Wayne's World 2 (1993) 90. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) 91. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)So I was on vacation all week, and I figured with today, my last day off, I should finish this off. Honestly, I wasn't terribly impressed. It reminds me a lot of a Michael Bay Transformers movie. Poorly defined monsters, humans that range from uninteresting to annoying, mindless carnage, the occasional ill-fitting pop song. I know these Monsterverse movies have their following, but I'm not it.

2024 New Releases
#33 Deadpool & Wolverine
This was a really enjoyable watch. The story's a bit weak but let’s face it, no-one is going to a Deadpool movie for the deep emotional plot, you’re going for two things: Jokes and Violence. And it delivers on those.
It's basically a buddy movie and Reynolds and Jackman have incredible chemistry together. I thought Logan was the perfect end to Jackman's Wolverine, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a lot of fun seeing him back. Plus the way they set things up, this sorta feels like optional DLC to the Wolverine story.
The movie's chock full of references and nods to the very mixed bag of non-MCU Marvel movies and it reads like a love letter and farewell to these. Lots of surprises that popped me throughout with one deep-cut reference that I still can’t believe is in there and it made the movie for me.
VERDICT: After a string of samey ‘perfectly fine’ entries to the MCU, D&W at least left me walking out at the end with a smile on my face and having a good time.

#34 Wicked Little Letters
Set in 1920 and based on a true story, Wicked Little Letters shows us how the harmony of a peaceful English town is thrown into disarray by an epidemic of crude insulting anonymous letters.
While the story is entertaining enough, the mystery of who is behind the letters itself isn’t very deep as there’s only a handful of people it could realistically be. To the filmmakers’ credit, I think they recognise this and make the smart move of revealing the culprit relatively early on. From there the focus shifts more onto the fallout and how the characters respond.
I wouldn’t call the movie hilarious but there were lots of moments that got me chuckling. Most of the humour comes from hearing well-spoken, upstanding British people reading out ‘shocking’ and terrible language that a respectable person should NEVER say. Though given the setting, there’s plenty of points in the movie where the grim reality and misogyny of the era and what it meant for women at that time is played deathly straight and very much not for laughs.
I think where the movie really shines is with its cast. Jessie Buckley and Olivia Colman play their parts perfectly, but I think the scene stealer is Timothy Spall who’s simply odious as Colman's quietly domineering father.
VERDICT: An extremely talented cast makes this comedy mystery a decent option to watch when looking for something relatively light to stream together.
