101-Deadpool and Wolverine-Theater
Never been a big Deadpool fan. She found a theater that does cheap tickets on Tuesday. So a few of us went as a late birthday gift for a friend.
Only real complaint is they appear to give Wolverine super strength in a few scenes. Also sorry Snipes but Sticky Fingerz was Blade on the Blade TV show.
8.2 Just Feet out of 10
Yea how the hell out of a theater of 20 to 30 people can I be the only one that saw and got that gag?

90. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) 91. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) 92. Gung Ho (1986)So with things calming down at the office and my recent personal issues calming down as well, I'm able to get back to doing what I do best - sitting around during work watching old movies on YouTube. There are a lot of parts of this film that have not aged well, but Michael Keaton does a good job coming off as a charming scumbag with a heart of gold, and he and Gedde Watanabe have really good chemistry together. Throw in a solid, if paint by numbers, story and you have a fun little movie. 93. Gulliver's Travels (1939)For those not familiar, this is considered the second ever full length theatrical animated movie (after Disney's Snow White). Made by Fleischer Studios, it was a financial success at the time, but the studio was so in hock to Paramount to get it made that the Fleischer Brothers saw very little of that cash. When their follow-up movie, Mr. Bug Goes to Town, flopped, Paramount came to town calling in their debts and Fleischer ceased to exist as an independent animation studio afterwards. As for the movie itself, the animation is breathtaking, especially for that hand drawn era. The story on the other hand is incredibly thin and really boring. The plot feels like it would've worked better as an eight minute short. If you're an animation fan I definitely recommend checking this out for historical purposes (there are several high quality uploads of it on YouTube), but beyond it doesn't have much to offer.

This movie is so stupid, I absolutely love it. [***]
#314 - 28 Weeks Later (Hulu)

I'm likely alone in this but I think this is slightly better than 28 Days Later. The camerawork is a bit too frantic for my taste but a lot of these scenes really hit for me and the cast is very strong. [***½]

91. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) 92. Gung Ho (1986)93. Gulliver's Travels (1939) 94. Princess of Thieves (2001)So a few weeks back I watched Men in Tights, and it got me nostalgic for Prince of Thieves. Unfortunately Prince of Thieves is not available on YouTube, but it did lead me to this television movie that I had never heard of before. For those not familiar, a pre- Pirates of the Caribbean Keira Knightley plays Robin Hood's teenage (I think) daughter Gwyn who, in the search for adventure and the desire to spend more time with her Father, gets involved in a skirmish between Prince John and Prince Philip over who will be King Richard's successor. The plot is exactly what you'd expect, cast chemistry is minimal, and all the dialogue has a bland, stage play-like delivery. It's not bad over-all, but there's no real hook or twist that makes this anything more then "by the numbers". 95. Batman (1966)My latest YouTube movie. Look, you know what you're getting into with this. You either enjoy the goofy fun or you don't. I don't really know what to say about it otherwise.

Was super worried about this initially because the Reeves trilogy is so f***ing good. Thankfully, this more than lives up to some of those and is a great entry that feels like enough of its own thing to start a new trilogy while paying homage to what came before it. [****]

35. Spaceman
On a year long flight to Jupiter, a cosmonaut encounters a strange life form. Meanwhile on Earth, his wife is pregnant. It is really quiet, really slow paced, and the ending doesn’t make a lot of sense. The cinematography for the ‘memory’ scenes was rather annoying while the visual image of the inside of the space cloud was very cool.

102-Straight into Darkness-Screen Media DVD
Not really a big war film fan. And this is a DVD I had seen sitting around a local junkstore for years. Would look at it quick and put it back. Then one day the booth had a big sign, saying the booth was closing and all dvds were buy 10 get 5 free. Buck each. And for the first tiime every I noticed on the cover the director's name. Jeff Burr(RIP SIR),for those that don't know Jeff is famous to horror fans for doing a pile of horror franchise sequels. TCM 2,Stepfather 2,Pumpkinhead 2 and at least 2 of the Puppet Master films.
He also was a close friend of a friend of mine. Buddy of mine is sstuck in a rural town. Where if you dont hunt or fish you are not accepted. This buddy met Jeff at a convention. They hit it off and at least once a week they chatted.
Grabbed this dvd, planning on watching it then sending it to my buddy. Then Jeff Burr passed.
How is the film? Decently made for it's budget. Worth seeing at least once.

180. THE SPELL (1977) Made for TV movie that essentially goes, "What if the girl from Carrie was actually a witch?" It changes some things, like having the girl's father be around (and also the one who harasses her the most for being "fat") and giving her a bully sister, but once the main girl cracks the code of her abilities, it's real bad for those who were mean to her.
The last ten minutes are an absolute delight.
181. THE CURSE (1987) Apparently one of the films that inspired Wil Wheaton to leave Star Trek: The Next Generation in his attempt to be a movie star. The same HP Lovecraft story that inspired this film was also adapted into the Nicolas Cage film COLOR OUT OF SPACE, but this one goes as gross as possible with the 'infections' that occur from the strange rock that crashes on the main character's farm.
Claude Atkins is incredibly good as the hard working, religious farmer trying to handle all that's occurring.
182. THE TWISTERS (2024) That's right! THE ASYLUM'S THE TWISTERS is indeed their mockbuster knock-off of TWISTERS (showing just how strong a "The" can be on the title). The plot involves a scientist using predictive AI to discover super tornados forming and combining forces to become a mega tornado because the original title of the film was TORNADOPACLYPSE until they saw the chance to piggy back.
It's dumb but if you see it, you'll also be shocked that you'll never see Steve again (It's not worth watching to get that reference).
183. SILVER BULLET (1985) In a movie with some gory werewolf related kills, there is nothing more effective than Terry O'Quinn walking away from a body he's discovered, carrying a bloody piece of fabric that tells us who the victim is, all the while praying out loud as if he just wants the image he's just seen to disappear from his mind.
It's amazing that within ten minutes of that moment, there's a scene where a man takes a baseball bat into the woods and gets beat to death with it by a werewolf.
And as all that is happening, Gary Busey is hanging around as an agent of chaos building a souped-up wheelchair for our main character while shouting things like "I'm going to open up a reptile farm. That'd be a kind of barbecue!"
Heck of a movie.
184. THE BLACKENING (2022) A more played-straight horror comedy that still has big "Scary Movie" vibes in its delivery. Plays with the tropes of the genre really well, complete with an absurd villain monologue that brings it all together.
Is a late 30s white dude from West Virginia the target audience? I liked it though.
185. SILENT NIGHT (2023) Joel Kinnaman can't talk, but he can shoot guns at the gang affiliated with the drive-by shooting that killed his child in this nearly wordless revenge movie that overbuys on its gimmick. John Woo puts in some good action moments, but the lack of speaking by everyone leads to multiple moments where things kind of drag.
186. RETRIBUTION (2023) The action movie where Liam Neeson gets to sit down the entire time. His car has a bomb and he's sent around town like an extended "Simon Says" from Die Hard with a Vengeance.
I've already forgotten most of it.

Repeated Viewing - Deadpool & Wolverine
Saw it in theaters.
My cousin wanted to see it. I was willing to go again. It's still as entertaining the second time around. I was also able to pick up on some of the gags on this viewing.
116. Logan (2017) - Watched this on Blu-ray. After watching "Deadpool & Wolverine" again (hell, even after the first time), I told myself to revisit this film. I recall seeing this in theaters back in 2017, as well as buying it off of eBay about a year or so ago. Plus, the Blu-ray I bought also included "Logan Noir," which is the black and white version.
This may possibly be the saddest and most powerful of the X-Men films that I have seen. I am aware that this film was loosely based on some of the "Old Man Logan" comic book series, but I haven't read them (I do plan to, though). With this film being Hugh Jackman's last outing as Wolverine (Well, at that time, anyway), it really did feel like it in many ways. It seemed that way character-wise, but in some ways, there may have been a meta subtext, unless it was coincidental. Patrick Stewart delivered as Professor Xavier, except this time, his character was suffering from dementia and Stewart really sold it.
This film did not hold back on the violence, either. Even with the film's dark and bleak tone, the action scenes were done well and they didn't have to be flashy, either. It wouldn't have worked with the overall feel for this film, anyway. I think James Mangold knew what he was doing when he did this movie.
Overall, this movie told a good story and for its time, it was a good swansong for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

103-Shazam Fury of the Gods-DVD
Ok this is way better than I was told. But still a step down from the first film.
Might be I am watching it on DVD the FX work doesn't look as janky as it did when I caught part of it one night at a buddy's home. I think off MAX.

104-Venom Let There Be Carnage-Sony DVD
Got it new for a buck today. She wanted another Marvel Movie night so it was this.
Big Dumb Fun. Might be cause I got use to superhero movies usually sucking. Might be I just dont expect a pile out of a film based on a capestuff comic. Found this way way better than all the other reviews I ahd read would lead me to believe.
Was it perfect, nah. But the 1 hour 30 odd minutes flew by. We both laughed a ffew times. And we got to make jokes about Venom possessing my cranky old dog Maggot Ass.
