I'm intrigued by giving Starfield a try, so I am happy for this. Plus I assume it means the next Fallout game will also be cross platform eventually. And I love the Fallout series. I think Starfield has hurt XBox. It was supposed to be their huge exclusive that would close the gap, and players were saying "Don't worry, the game gets good and fun about 20 hours in." It can't take that long for a game to get good and fun. The first chapter of RDR2 is considered a slog, and that takes a couple of hours. 20 hours to get good isn't bad compared to the FFXIII I remember when that was released people were saying how boring it is, with others saying "it gets really good at the 60 hour mark!" But I agree, I don't have the time or patience to play 20 hours for the game to get good. Be fun immediately.

Lot of people elsewhere are being really pissy about, "How dare other people get my exclusives?!" when, like, the more accessible something is the better, it being on other consoles isn't taking it from you, and you still got to play it before other people. Plus people acting like they care about Starfield now makes it funnier.

Okay, as an Xbox owner, when do I get Spider-Man and God of War? How about Breath of the Wild? Not happening? Those are old games, their primary audiences played them years ago. Exclusives suck all around, but one company giving them up without the others following suit just means one group of players get shit on. Agreed. I’m a PS5 owner so this is potentially great for myself depending on what games it’s done with but on the other hand like you say where’s the squid pro row? Not a fan of exclusives myself. If it was timed for a couple of years then okay but I’d hate to miss out on stuff like Ratchet & Clank which I’m currently playing

There is definitely a level of, "Okay, it gets good eventually," I can tolerate, and what that is varies game to game and genre to genre, but it is definitely something better kept to a minimum. Like, I can tolerate (though it took my second attempt at the game to do so) how Xenoblade 2 doesn't really start finding its footing until the end of chapter 2 and arguably doesn't actually hit its stride until you get Mythra full-time in chapter 4, but something like Final Fantasy 13 and the slow limping mess that is to get to a damn point just completely turns me off.

If the game is at least interesting, I can live with "it gets better later" if I'm not super into it the first few hours or so. If it's an absolute chore to get through, not so much.

Tbh it got worse for me, the more I played it the more hollow and sterile the whole experience felt.

Meanwhile I'm over here and had a great time with Starfield probably because I never played Skyrim or a whole bunch of their other games lmao.

More rumors are going around now saying they're also planning to make Gears of War and Halo multiconsole.

This whole thing is wild man. I knew Gamepass would eventually hit a snag but eh like this nah I didn't expect it. Them potentially going multiplatform after buying all those companies, I mean it's dope for gamers but for them? We'll see.
As long as we get dope games I don't care so I'm good.

As someone that owns a PS5 and a Switch, I can understand the frustration for people that own a Xbox. It's one thing to have less exclusives across all consols but if just Xbox is giving up exclusivity and Sony isn't that sucks for the Xbox owners. Let's say I was interested in the new God of War but decided to go Xbox because I like Bethesda RPGs more, I couldn't help but feel like a sucker for being an early adopter or buying the day of Starfield's release.

Sony at least ports some of its big first party games to PC eventually and MLB the Show to all platforms now. But yeah, it does suck for Xbox owners who chose a Series S/X over a PS5.
TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if MS abandons Xbox as a dedicated console platform outright and pivots to something like the SteamDeck that runs GamePass.

If this is Microsoft throwing in the towel hopefully it doesn’t cause Sony to become complacent. That’s what got Microsoft in this situation to begin with when they thought they had the PlayStation defeated. Gonna be an interesting update.

Yeah, hopefully this doesn't lead to, "Yeah, the PS6 is $800. What are you going to do, there isn't an alternative."

They more or less already have, Gamepass has been their main focus this generation over selling consoles.

There's still Nintendo, but they're content being the lower tech, cheaper alternative to Sony and MS. Like I'd be surprised if the Switch 2 or whatever they call their next console even comes close in specs to the PS5 or Series X.

The aesthetic, the gameplay, it just didn't work for me at all.

Final Fantasy XIII NEVER gets good XIII was a FF game I just could not get into. The aesthetic, the gameplay, it just didn't work for me at all. You don't like infinite corridors that all lead in the same direction... there are no towns or people to actually talk to... and the cutscenes are filled with confusing jargon that either NEVER gets explained, is explained poorly, or is buried in a giant codex.

Switch is the 3rd highest selling console ever. Nintendo doesn't match the specs, they concentrate on perfecting their IPs and games that everybody can play.
