"there’s the feeling that popularity is declining overall and changes have to be made to turn it around and he’s acting like everything is fine"
I found this to be silly. He's a promoter. He's always going to spin things in a positive direction when he can. He's never going to openly say something sucked. He's also a numbers guy and I highly doubt in private that he believes everything is perfect and there's no room to grow. Anyone including talent should recognize that.

haven't the last few shows had like 4-6K people in attendance? I know they have a lot of tickets sold for Revolution and that Boston show
Maybe I'm wearing rose colored glasses since I've really been enjoying the last few weeks of TV since the belt came off MJF, but it seems like AEW has been heating up recently

This does make me wonder where the people complaining have worked before because even Billy f***ing Corgan acted like the company was doing well when TYRUS was their forever champion Even if AEW was in the gutter do they expect Khan to just be like "Yeah this companies doing f***ing awful right now, all of this sucks"? Where did they work where a promoter would do that? Because it definitely wasn't WWE, Vince acted like his shit smelled like Rainbows on a 24/7 pace and HHH is very much the same in how he dodges any criticisms.

Cos this sort of leak demanding that Tony be negative about his company, as if there isn't enough of that already with the bad faith dickheads and bellends like Billy Ray, Cornette Bischoff everywhere you look, is just f***ing bizarre. Your whole post is something I wish I could like about 50 times, but I'm really glad you didn't correct this part because I am having a great time picturing Miley Cyrus' father being pissed off at AEW.

whether it is about AEW or WWE, the last few weeks has pretty much confirmed that I'm not listening to a damn thing that is said on that show. it feels like darts being thrown and a waste of time, this included

Dave’s AEW source is Jericho who is at a bit of a crossroads as he’s not had a good match since All In and hasn’t had a good storyline since RoH champ angle. He’s a difficult problem for Khan because he is important behind the scenes and there’s probably a lot of loyalty there due to his importance in AEW’s successful launch but how do you book him when he’s already wrestled everyone and the crowd is sick of him. Also if he has lost a step in ring he might not get it back. Jericho wasn’t booked for this week’s Dynamite, has no angle for Revolution and isn’t happy so has gone moaning to Dave. TK really needs a chat with him about his future plans. Options are a Sting style retirement storyline (which I doubt he wants as he’s more of a Flair/Randy the Ram type) or a return to WWE for a last match and HoF or a full time office/commentary role with a few matches a year or whatever because the two have different visions about his future I think. Dave absolutely has more than one "AEW source". Like, blatantly and obviously way more than one.

Ha, an unfortunate typo but I'll leave it as it is as I don't much like typing the other guys name anyway.

I'm not Tony's biggest fan, I'm not AEW's biggest fan, but it'd be suicidally counterproductive to start coming out all "Okay guys there's problems what can we do". You always present a strong, positive united front. Look at soccer- the minute a team starts admitting problems in public, whether manager, chairman, or player comments that are left unchecked & uncouched, things spiral. But keep a strong front and positive public image and it helps keep things together. You might have private behind the scenes meetings with trusted counsel to discuss issues but you absolutely never say or give the impression of saying any kind of doomsday speech either to the public or to personnel at large. In my last workplace several people felt like there were problems for a long time, a few people including me got out, but right til the day I left upper management presented a positive front because they had to. Did it feel a bit like they were either not listening or trying to half heartedly con us? Maybe. But I also understand why they were never going to turn round and say things were bad, it's not even about accountability it's about not triggering more problems/making the problems a self fulfilling prophecy for EVERYONE.

Now watch this to be another Meltzer report today that people overreacted for no reason like his report on CMLL, Roman/Rock, Tommy Dreamer

"Promoter keeps promoting".
Alongside the Dreamer TNA stuff today, this hasn't exactly been a banner week for Dave.

I bet he got information from talent that want to go to WWE or just scrubs that would rather complain to the dirtsheets than trying to get better.

SRS said a few weeks ago that some talent were frustrated that talent had to go through a hierarchy now to pitch things rather than just going to TK directly like they could in Jacksonville, but he's said aside from that (and has said consistently) that moral has been at it's highest in awhile.
I think it's a case of not everybody is going to be happy all the time.

I swear I just saw a report a couple of days ago that said morale was the highest its been in some time. Without hearing it directly from the sources and asking questions, it's impossible to know if people are speaking for themselves and/their clique or for everyone. I'm sure every locker room in wrestling has frustrated wrestlers and I'm sure every locker room has happy ones.

This is what will happen when you have a giant roster. There will be people shouting that the feeling is restored and people thinking times are tough. It’s on Meltzer to distill signal from noise in terms of what to report.

It’s on Meltzer to distill signal from noise in terms of what to report. In the past year-ish, I have noticed Meltzer reporting sources with a lot less scrutiny than it felt like he used to. You can see it in him being all the f*** over the place on the Wrestlemania situation too so it's definitely not just an AEW thing where he's seeking to tear the company down or whatever. But it has also led to him just super uncritically reporting obvious WWE spin to shit on AEW on really wild stuff like "young talent are siding with WWE and old fogey sloppy seconds are going to AEW now" that were only true for the like month that the statement was made in. He'll say AEW needs to get rid of guys who clearly don't want to be there and refuse to job but then he's reporting on those guys' feelings about the vibe like it's how AEW is. I'm sure he's still filtering out some real garbage, but it feels like his ability to filter stuff out is starting to slip a bit too much.

In the last month alone I’ve noticed a dramatic, dramatic drop in the quality of his info. SRS has had to do a lot of stuff to correct his bad info. Makes me wonder if it’s a purposeful campaign to discredit Meltzer a bit but the dude is also nearing his mid-60’s. It might be time to call it quits on actual news and just focus on his thoughts re: shows.

Waiting for "morale is actually up" correction by SRS both of them having a scoop war was not on my wrestling bingo card of 2024.

"Morale is the highest it's been in awhile," and, "Some talents are frustrated," aren't really mutually exclusive statements. It comes off like trying to save face with some AEW doom & gloom red meat after getting a lot of things really wrong this week. It’s all in the same newsletter, so it’s not really “after” anything
