To me, not really. Maybe once they start putting the clear top match on Night 1, which they clearly have not yet. I know WWE considers it a main event, so it is what it is. It just feels more secondary.

If night one has a last match WWE would not be caught dead having as the main event of night two I would have to say no.

I think a more interesting question would be this.
If you're a talent, which do you find more important?
-Closing Night 1 -Opening Night 2

I think a more interesting question would be this. If you're a talent, which do you find more important? -Closing Night 1 - Opening Night 2 I'd be shocked if any wrestler chose opening night 2. My first thought was maybe Brock Lesnar who doesn't want to sit around backstage for a whole show but even he might rather just get his shit done on day 1 and not even have to attend night 2 at all. Although in his case even if he did want to open it would likely be less because he found it more important and instead purely be about scheduling and what required the least effort/time away from home lol. There's more prestige in main eventing. There's more money. And the one benefit opening may have had in 2016-19 (crowd being hot but then being too exhausted to care much for the main event) isn't a thing anymore since they switched to 2 nights and each show is back to 4-5 hours long rather than a 7-8 hour monstrosity like Mania 32. Sasha/Bianca, Owens/Austin and Usos/Sami/KO all had great crowds.

And I think the idea that it's a "lesser" main event is kind of bullshit when you consider the moments that happened on each Night 1 so far. You got Taker's last match, the first ever main event match between two African American women, Stone Cold Steve Austin's last match and then last year, the first tag team main event since Mania 1. They're all important matches, it's not like they're closing with a cold match and telling people to come back the next day for Night 2.

Now don't get me wrong: it was an excellent match and one of the best tag matches WWE's done since the heyday of the Hardys, E&C, and Dudleys. I also liked it more than Night 2's main event. But from a storyline standpoint, all four participants were all supporting characters to the true main event of WM39: Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns.

Depending on who you talked with at the time, the Sami/KO vs. Usos match meant more to folks than the Cody/Roman match. The fact that you could close a 50 or 60K person stadium show with the match and nobody felt cheated means it's a main event. I get what people are saying by calling something the "true" main event of a weekend, but again, you can still pay for Night 1 individually. Lizuka's example about a Musical Festival is perfect. You know how people say it's a different world when it comes to ratings in the era of streaming? I think the same can be said for WrestleMania now that it's a two night affair. Just how it goes. The Rock's probably going to main event Night 1 this year and I'm not sure many folks wouldn't call that a "true" main event even if it plays a role in Night 2.

The whole Sami/Jey story felt like a compelling storyline all to its own that just happened to have Roman involved than something that was subservient to Roman/Cody, imo.

I already said I think Night 1's match is a main event. But, at least in WWE's eyes, it wasn't equal in prestige to Roman vs Cody for the big prize. Secondary players competing for secondary titles would likely never close out Night 2.

It's definitely one of the biggest slots in the industry and being in it is a huge, real-life accomplishment. It's a main event in the same way that Savage vs. Flair or HHH vs. Taker HIAC were main events.
But none of the Night 1 Main Events would have gone on last if Wrestlemania was still one day.

Austin/Owens in Austin's last match in Texas certainly had a chance of going on last. The others I'll give you. It's not the same as Savage/Flair or HHH/Taker HIAC, it's literally the last match on a show where you can buy a single day ticket. WrestleMania is a two night show with two main events. I can see Night 2 having "more importance" for some folks, but by the literal definition of a main event, not even marketing multiple matches on one night as a main event, they're main events.

Night 2 is for sure THE Main Event, but I feel like the closing moments of every night 1 since the inception of the concept has been more iconic, since night 2 is mainly Roman retaining and I think Taker’s boneyard match is more important than Drew winning the title

It's hard for me to see them putting anything on after Austin's last match if the two shows merged, actually I can see them doing it but it would have been a mistake. Brock Vs Roman in one of the poorer matches the two had would have died a painful death if positioned after Austin, on the same night.

If the promotion, the wrestlers and the crowd all consider it a main event then it is.

This thread raises some interesting questions about what exactly qualifies as a "Wrestlemania main event."
For example, if you think "the main event is the match that has the world title in it," then does Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff not count as the main event of Wrestlemania 1? Or Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Lawrence Taylor at Wrestlemania 11?
And if we want to stick with the world title, which world title? People may have no problem saying Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWF title was the main event of Wrestlemania 12, but would people agree that Triple H vs. Batista for the WHC title at Wrestlemania 21 was the main event? If so, then does that make Batista vs. the Undertaker for the WHC title at Wrestlemania 23 the main event?
And the world title for which division, the men's division or the women's division? If you focus on the WWE title that traces its lineage to Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Bob Backlund, and others, does that mean that Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair wasn't the main event of Wrestlemania 35? Or that Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley wasn't the main event of night #1 at Wrestlemania 39?
Maybe you think, "the main event is whatever is the last match that fans saw in the arena." Clearly Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage was the main event of Wrestlemania 5, but what was the main event of Wrestlemania 2 when that show was held in three different cities? Was it Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper at Nassau Coliseum, or was it the British Bulldogs vs. the Dream Team at the Rosemont Horizon, or was it Hulk Hogan vs. King Kong Bundy at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena? Or what about when Seth Rollins cashed Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania 31? It wasn't an announced match beforehand, but it was the actual last match of the show.
The previous question can be broken down even more. What if there aren't any fans in the arena to see the show in the first place? This is what happened at Wrestlemania 36 because of COVID-19. Does this mean that the Undertaker vs. AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match and Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre weren't the main events of this show because no live sports in March 2020 had fans in attendance?
Maybe we can say that whatever the biggest, most hyped match of the card is what is the main event because it's what caused so many people to buy tickets. Conventionally, this makes sense. But when I bought my Wrestlemania 18 tickets in October 2002, I had no clue that Hulk Hogan would be coming back, let alone facing the Rock. Nor did I imagine that there would eventually be an Undisputed title, that Chris Jericho would be the Undisputed champion, and that he'd wrestle Triple H, the winner of the Royal Rumble, who would be returning from injury. So how can I say that either main event match was the reason I bought tickets when I didn't even know these matches would be happening at all!
Finally, maybe you're an older fan, and you think, the winner of the Royal Rumble has historically been in the main event of Wrestlemania: Yokozuna (WM 9), Bret Hart (WM 10), Lex Luger (WM 10), Shawn Michaels (WM 12), Steve Austin (WM 14 and 17), the Rock (WM 16), Triple H (WM 18), Brock Lesnar (WM 19), Chris Benoit (WM 20), Batista (WM 21). Well, after Wrestlemania 21, the Royal Rumble winner's success rate of being in the main event of Wrestlemania, let alone winning their match, gets much spottier.
So all in all, which is it?

People really want to tell people that the big match on a show that outdraws every other show but one in the US the entire year is not a main event? Get straight out of town with that nonsense. Tens of thousands of people enter that day and leave when it’s over. Whether they come back the next day or not…the big match on that show isn’t just a main event…it’s one of the few biggest and most successful main events of the year.

Yes, it's the main event of night one. Sunday's last match is the main event of night two. Both matches are Wrestlemania Main Events.

Seems completely arbitrary and stupid for it not to. It's still headlining a show that tens of thousands of people are in attendance for and it's not like only the last act on the last day at a music festival counts. This right here is how I’ve always looked at it. You have a couple music festivals that’ll have one specific headlining act but generally each of the three/four nights have an individual headliner. Just because you’re the last night doesn’t mean the most famous or best musician is playing, oftentimes that isn’t the case at all. I’d go a step further and say there have been multiple times where the night 1 main event could’ve ended up main eventing the whole thing. If they were really sure that would be the last hurrah for Taker, it wouldn’t make sense to have a match on after the conclusion of the boneyard match. That is a show closer and specifically designed to end like a tv show/movie. Bianca/Sasha would’ve been a gigantic longshot to main event but I could see a scenario in which WWE would want to do it for the historical purposes. Plus it was an awesome match. Stone Cold vs KO would’ve main evented the whole thing for sure. They hyped the shit out of Brock/Roman but this is SCSA we’re talking about. Sami/KO/Usos had no chance though.

Taking wrestlemania as a 2 night package, t’s the main event of the night but it’s not the main event of the show so me personally I don’t consider it a proper main event
It’s a main event in the same way that any other show that has two or three main events only really has one actual main event which is the last match of the show
