Madcap Moss is a free agent... just want to point that out Jokes aside, Moss would be a decent signing.

IDK that the ratings will even have a chance to start recovering until after Mania WWE is hot in general right now and they are going into their biggest show off the year. With The Rock as a regular onscreen character no less. But what does that have to do with AEW? You don’t have to chose between both.

I don't get why people are blaming WWE when it's not like they're even on the same night. You can watch both. I watch both.

If you enjoy it, great. I think they’ve had some good TV shows lately but for whatever reason, ratings are down. Is what it is.

I honestly don’t have any words that don’t make me sound crazy, cuz I swear there’s some kinda campaign to put AEW in the dirt. These shows are solid as hell, with new pieces being out on the board. I just don’t get it at this point. Just enjoy the show and don't let the Nielson box numbers or online trolling effect what you like or want to care about, tbh I swear I’m starting to feel like I’m in a relationship where people aren’t giving my partner a chance lmfao

Most people only have a certain amount of time in the week to watch wrestling. And right now WWE feels like the bigger deal, so most are watching that. Not everyone can or wants to watch both.

But there are people who also argue WWE and AEW do not have a broad fan overlap, so like... which one is it? Is there an insane roughly 300K overlap of fans who currently are watching WWE over AEW, or are they very different fanbases who indulge in different wrestling products? Because it feels like people flip this argument to whatever's convenient to explain AEW's state.

Every promotion with a unique style gets its own distinct fandom, and yet there’s still going to be TV viewers who- even if they have time to watch more than one show- will mainly want to focus their attention on just one company.

Yeah there seems to be a core audience of about 400k who will watch aew no matter what. After that it gets harder to judge. It's clear a wwe ppv makes a difference to Collision. I'm sure how satisfying wwe is will have some effect on dynamite rating but no idea to what extent. Although my gut feeling is it's minimal. Personally I might skip aew for a week because Grand Princess followed by collective weekend is already way too much and something has to give.

Hell, I have just enough time to watch Dynamite most weeks with a rare occasional Rampage/Collision watch. Not all of us want to consume wrestling 24/7 across companies/shows.

I have a theory regarding AEW (it also applies to past promotions like TNA, whoever else)
I think there is still a sub-section of people who just think anything that isn’t WWE is simply lower/less quality.
I have a few friends in my life who consume almost all of their entertainment via strictly mainstream sources. No independent bands, no independent films.. you get the point. The mentality is often “it’s in the radio so it must be good”, or “tons of people love it so it must be good”. It's another anecdotal example but I’ve seen examples in real life of people talking about non-WWE wrestling as “knockoff wrestling” and things like that. I’m sure you guys know people who think the only news sources are Fox and CNN. We have an entire demographic of 18-24 year olds who have only known wrestling as whatever WWE does.
I’m not sure this is why AEW is missing out on the millions of fans watching WWE. A lot of it surely has to do with branding, distribution, marketing, history.. you name it. But wrestling is weird and I have seen plenty of examples of this hence what led me to thinking about it in the first place. I wish them the best but I think it’s just gonna take time to grow. I don’t know that big signings, hot angles or anything is gonna have an effect like it did in the 90’s. There’s simply too much media to consume and wrestling generally isn’t appointment viewing anymore, even if the WWE is “hot” right now (3+ million viewers combined for SmackDown and RAW last week is hot now).

Yeah, as a long time wrestling nerd I often check to remind myself that those like me who follow the Big Three of NJPW/AEW/WWE simultaneously *and* regularly watch the retro stuff and nearly any crappy indy put in front of me are a minority, especially when the biz is booming with these greenhorn newcomers to our universe.

I look at it a bit differently, there are/were about 500,000 disaffected WWE fans who couldn't stand the Vince product. They watched AEW, and the height of that was probably went Punk showed up, which is seemed like it was at it's most anti-current WWE feeling. Vince isn't there anylonger, and his booking isn't there anymore, so typically, you won't have the stop/start senile booking, so some of those people went back, and like has been said in here, even though there is different days, it does seem like a finite amount of pro wrestling people will watch during the week.
