For just 5 years that's extraordinary. But more important than the money is what AEW has done for wrestling

I know nothing about sports, especially American sports, but wouldn’t basketball, football, hockey etc be bigger than wrestling?

I know nothing about sports, especially American sports, but wouldn’t basketball, football, hockey etc be bigger than wrestling? The ranking is specifically combat sports. The major sports leagues are massive, but AEW is beingh compared against WWE, MMA, and boxing, that's the zone that's it operates in.

seriously though, for a company that young that's a hell of a success to be worth that much already.

Naturally a bunch of total dumbasses on Twitter are reacting to this with, "No it isn't because I say it isn't!"

The other thing is that the major sports leagues are massive cartels that are made up of around 30 individual multibillion dollar organizations each, while WWE, UFC, AEW, etc. are just individual companies. The Dallas Cowboys on its own is worth only $2 billion less than the UFC, the #1 combat sport company.

Damn if only they'd listened to Punk and concentrated on selling that one extra ticket for Collison in Corpus Christi.

Meltzer had a lot of pushback on the Forbes numbers in the Observer today. Said WWE is undervalued, AEW overvalued (and more speculative based on the future rights deal), and the two after AEW are way overvalued.

Said WWE is undervalued, AEW overvalued (and more speculative based on the future rights deal), and the two after AEW are way overvalued. I mean, maybe Dave's right and AEW is overvalued, but Forbes is catered to the financial news crowd so I'd be more inclined to trust them over Meltzer in this regard. Not that it matters anyway, because the Khans have the kind of money to where AEW's done when they say it's done, and it's a privately owned company on top of that, making valuations an educated guess at best.

Regardless of reputation, this will be a bit of a back of a fag packet calculation from Forbes. AEW is a private company that has never been up for sale and has never disclosed any financial records.
But I guess the point here is that, regardless of whether it's $2b or $1b or $3b, they have built a very valuable brand. It's why any talk of them disappearing is nonsense. Even in a worst case scenario where Tony wants out, they could contract quite significantly and still be an attractive proposition. You only have to look at how hard it's been to kill TNA, and AEW are several times what they were at their peak.
