When Randy Savage appeared on WWF magazine with the world title the week before he even won the damn thing with the words new champion crowned at wrestlemania on the cover that pretty much confirmed my suspicions

Around the same time I learned that movies were not real either. Which is good, because Freddy Kruger would have killed us all eventually.

This may have been a local error, or it may have been made at Titan Towers. Either way, it was a serious breach of kayfabe by 1986 standards.
During the build-up to WM2, there was the famous "Saturday Night's Main Event" when Hogan was facing Muraco and Bundy did a run-in and squashed Hogan's ribs.
Anyway, I'm watching Wrestling Superstars on the Saturday afteroon before SNME, and they ran footage of Bundy's attack. To make it worse, the whole time Okerlund kept referring to "last week on SNME..."

8th grade. The person who told me was real cool about it, saying something to the effect of:
"You know that that's fake, right? Well, fake might not be the right word; it's pre-determined. If you like it, don't worry what people say about it. These guys are great athletes and have no reason to be ashamed or made fun of for what they do. And you have no reason to be ashamed for liking it."
8th grade teacher. Man, my 8th grade teacher was awesome. 6 foot 3, 260lbs. He played pro rugby and in the CFL.

How did you figure out wrestling was fake? Through this thread. Thanks jerk. Yeah, this thread should be marked SPOILERS. In all seriousness though, when I was very young, maybe around 5 or 6, my Dad let my brother and I rent Wrestlemania III because we had heard about Hogan vs. Andre, and he said "Are you sure? You know that stuff is fake right"? I remember being like "Oh, it is? Well, can we get it anyway"?

In one of the first matches I saw, Randy Savage stomped on the ground every time he punched, and from the camera angle, it was obvious he was missing the guy's face by about six inches.

Everyone said it was and I didn't believe it (age 12) but I remember seeing this special on TV, this masked wrestler (he wore the mask to protect his identity, not a luchadore) gave away all of the secrets. After that, I watched and it was no longer real to me, damnit. Still enjoyed it, but that was it for me.

When Zach Gowen didnt sell his Brock Lesnar injury. He would show up without a cast or whatnot.
I knew wrestling was scripted just a few months I started watching.

Only like 65% of the business has been exposed, and kayfabe is still alive and doing very, very well. Anyway, I remember watching Wrestlemania 8 with a room full of my friends> Undertaker gave Jake Roberts a Tombstone on the outside of the ring, and you could clearly see that Jake's head was atleast 6 inches above the ground. Bobby Heenan yelled "Oh my God, I think he broke his neck Monsoon! I think he broke his neck!" Everyone in the room yelled "How fake!". Little did I know that Jake legitimately suffered a serious injury to his neck from taking that move. He had a history of neck problems stemming from a guitar shot from the Honky Tonk Man, and when he was on his way down from the tombstone, the sudden stop caused a jolt in his neck that injured him more than if his head would've hit the floor. Jake holding his neck in pain once they got back inside the ring was real. Go figure.

And what do you mean by only 60% of the business is exposed? In what sense? Are you talking in an overall in and out business sense or more limited to booking?

And when ever anybody points out that wrestling is fake to me, even though I'm 27 freaking years old, I tell them to let pretend to give them some Flair chops and fake hit them in the head with a steel chair. They usually pass. But damn is it fun to throw a few good chops and yell WOOOOOOOO!!!

I'm sure getting jerked around like that can hurt your neck, especially if it's already injured, but there's no way that that injured him more than if he hit the floor.

But seriously, when people go 'you know it's fake right?' I usually point out, 'so is everything else on TV. Your point being?'
