It's about time to create this. BTW, why hasn't anyone created this?
I expect members to begin being announced shortly after the Royal Rumble, so with that a few weeks ahead, let's list and discuss who should, should not, will, and will not be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year or any other year in the future.
My picks:
- Brian Pillman
It will have been ten years since he made an appearance on his only WrestleMania, and sadly, it was part of a hotline segment rather than being in an actual match. His widow is obviously on great terms with Vince McMahon based on the very good two-disc DVD that was released several months back, and he was a true pioneer to the sport. In his tragically shortened career (and more importantly, life), he more than proved himself to be a true Hall of Famer, despite the efforts that many made to undermine him. He will forever be remembered as helping change the style of mainstream American wrestling, but that will not be the trademark of his legacy. His "Loose Cannon" gimmick cemented his spot forever in the history of the business, as it broke down doors for character development and dared to cross the invisible boundaries that the business had created. Who inducts him: Steve Austin
Paul Bearer
- Last I knew about it, he is still under a WWE Legends contract, and deservedly so. While he will always be most known for his WWE persona, his true contributions came before as Percy Pringle. He managed Steve Austin, Lex Luger, Kane, Mick Foley, Undertaker, among many others, and his importance for the Undertaker cannot be emphasized enough. He knew the art of the promo, and could heel the fans in a heartbeat. Who inducts him: Mick Foley, Kane, or Undertaker
Arn Anderson
- One of the all-time great mid-carders, he could wrestle, he could talk, and his role in the legendary Four Horsemen fit him perfectly. He was no-non-sense in the ring, and he didn't need gimmicks to get hell heat; he was a natural. With a Four Horsemen DVD set scheduled to be released in the spring, this induction would also be a great way to promote it. Who inducts him: Chris Benoit or Ric Flair
Ricky Steamboat
- Yes, Vince McMahon will swallow his pride and use common sense for once. He will actually spend money on a worthy cause, and that is for Ricky Steamboat to be inducted as Ricky Steamboat. Twenty years after tearing down the house in the same exact city with Randy Savage, Steamboat will finally have a chance to share himself in front of a new breed of fans who will no clue of his accomplishments. His trilogy with Ric Flair will be forever revered, but one cannot forget just how beneficial he was to the careers of Steve Austin, Shane Douglas, Brian Pillman, Jake Roberts, among many others. Who inducts him: Ric Flair, CM Punk, Chris Benoit, or Chris Jericho
Eric Bischoff
- I'm one of the first guys to bring him back down to earth when he gets full of himself or delusional, but if you wonder why he should be inducted, please get a CAT scan. Who should induct him: Vince McMahon or Diamond Dallas Page
Terry Funk
- See above, but multiply by about 100. Who should induct him: Dory Funk Jr., Ric Flair, or Mick Foley
The British Bulldogs
- Dynamite Kid is one of the greatest wrestlers ever, period, and Davey Boy, while not as great, had many memorable moments in his career. For those of you who don't realize this, here's an answer to a trivia question: Davey Boy drew the actual biggest crowd in the history of WWE, along with Bret Hart. Who should induct them: Chris Benoit and/or Harry Smith
Gordon Solie
- The greatest commentator of the 20th century, plain and simple. Who should induct him: Jim Ross
John Tenta
- With all due respect, this is my pick for the usual "debate-able" induction. Read the tribute to him on the Wrestlecrap home page, and if you can somehow find a copy, Dave Meltzer's biography on him does more justice to him than I ever could. Who should induct him: Hulk Hogan; Who I would LOVE to see induct him: RD Reynolds
Picks for future years:
If WM 24 is in Orlando -
Dusty Rhodes
Randy Savage
If WM 24 is in Las Vegas -
Yokozuna
Ted DiBiase
