I wonder if HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN will get a chance to speak on this. Mike was practically family. So you can't even put your gimmick aside for 5 minutes to let people mourn the unexpected and far-too-early death of a wrestler. Unbelievable. If your goal is to get a reaction out of people (which typically is the goal of gimmick posters), then congratulations you have succeeded. As for my thoughts, Mike Awesome was an asset to the business. He wrestled in the Big 3, had his share of different characters, and got to accomplish quite a bit. I will miss him.... RIP.

It is f***in sad that people still make clowns of themselves even in something serious as this.

Is it THAT HARD to actually care about this guy and leave this thread as a solemn place where people can leave their condolensces for him?

Don't make me bust out the "respect" announcement again. We're not due for a refresher just yet, but I'm not shy about it.

He has a much concern for others as his idol. Congrats, jackass.

When will these deaths end?
RIP, Mike. I can only hope you and so many others will be remembered in years to come as more than just a sad statistic.

I still stand by the credo that if any other sport/category of entertainment suffered the volume of loss that wrestling did, there'd be a Congressional Subcommittee meeting about it.

I just thought of two very disturbing coincidences
1 - At One Night Stand 2005 during Awesome/Tanaka, Awesome at one point in the match dives out of the ring onto Tanaka, and Joey Styles (who had been ragging on Awesome all night) says something along the lines of "Mike Awesome with the suicide dive, and its a damn shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life, do us all a favor!" Certainly (I hope) Joey didn't mean it, but NOW....jesus christ
2 - On my Smackdown vs RAW 2007 game, I created the ECW world title. The first man to win it....was Bam Bam Bigelow. When he died, I put the title on....my Mike Awesome CAW. ugh. I'm retiring that belt, right now

Sadly, I'm never shocked to hear news like this anymore. It happens all too frequently these days. I just hope that somehow he found peace from whatever was bothering him.
In retrospect Mike Awesome could've been the perfect Vince endorsed ECW champion to feud with the ECW originals. A big believable guy that Styles could've ranted about selling out when he was ECW champ, and it would've worked to have him destroy everyone in his path.
RIP Mike Awesome, another gone too soon.

I think I'm alone when I say this but I marked out for Awesome attacking Nash and jumping ship to WCW and I love the original ECW.
Its like Angle jumping to TNA and me having high hopes for Monty going to the E. I wanted to see a wrestler I really enjoyed in a different environment.
I thought at the time that WCW would be good for Awesome and he would be a better fit there. Unfortunately he was misused.
I dont think about how he was misused and I think about how Awesome he was.

You know I always thought being 40 and what not was actually pretty old.
But then I realize my parents are near 50 and then it just hits home that these guys really haven't beena round all that long.
/sigh
It's a damn shame to go out that way. RIP Awesome, you'll be sorely missed.

You know, Awesome vs Tanaka was my favorite match on ONS '05 and I think I am going to go watch it again. Matches like that are what we should remember Awesome by, since his talents were showcased exactly how they should have been!
Also if anyone can locate any YouTube videos of his WCW 70's Guy stuff, I would like to see it. Sure it was a WC inductee, but I thought it was really funny in that crappy sort of way. I want to see it again....

^ And while you're at it, find the video of his WWF debut.
That was pretty sinsiter, when he powerbombed Rhyno on that ladder in the back hallway and legit hurt him, and scooped up the Hardcore belt on his first night.....that was momentum right there. Pity they didn't capitalize on it.
