I don't think this has really been discussed yet but if it has, I'm sorry. After watching Punk/Morrison VII(I think it was 7) on Tuesday, I can't help but wonder how awesome it would've been if it was Benoit feuding with Punk this whole time rather than Morrison. Just think, the veteran ECW Champion Benoit continuously defeats CM Punk in thrilling matches only to have Punk finally pick up the victory and the rivalry continues. There would've been so many great matches these past five months. Ahh, smarks and marks alike would've loved this. It probably would've made ECW the a-show, at least for me.

You are absolutely correct here, San-Lino. Benoit and Punk would have been a feud for the ages.

Every man has his breaking point. All you can do is pray for mercy that you never have to reach it, and pity those that did.

Well, not to defend Benoit's actions, because A) I wasn't a fan of his, and B) I have a two year old son, and the thought of ANYONE hurting him makes me very upset, but the autopsy on his brain showed he had severe brain damage. He wasn't a monster, just a very damaged man. His actions should never be forgiven, but they should be understood.

I remember when Benoit died (before all the shit on him was revealed) I was pissed off because I was so waiting for that match. It would have been one of the greatest match in WWE for the year in my opinion, no way they would have let us down.
Y2J vs CM Punk will rocks anyway.

In all honesty, Benoit's final actions have sort of erased the memory of his deteriorating ring skills over the past year. All he did was chops near the end. I don't think a match with Punk would have been "special." It would have been good, but not "special." Benoit hadn't had a great match in years. He was just going through the motions near the end. The brain damage would have had something to do with that I imagine.

I remember looking forward to a Punk/Angle match in ECW, then Angle was fired and went to TNA.
Then I remember posting on this site, after Punk and Benoit qualified for Vengeance, that after losing out on the Punk/Angle match, there was no way we would miss out on a Punk/Benoit match. How wrong I was.
From now on, I'm not saying that anymore about a CM Punk match. As much as I would like to see him face Jericho, Triple H, Edge, and so on, I'm never going to say we are going to finally get those matches. Seems like the kiss of death.

Doc: Great Scott, Marty! You've gotta come back with me.... Marty: Where? Doc: 2007, Marty. CM Punk and Benoit are scheduled to meet on PPV and it looks to be a killer match! Marty: What about Jennifer, we can't just take her there. Doc: Don't worry, I'll drop her off to meet Nancy and Daniel before the weekend. she'll be fine. When she wakes up she'll have no memory of what just happened. Marty: Whoa, this is heavy.

*sigh*.......it would have been an AMAZING feud. Punk, has been waiting for something like that for his entire WWE run. Somebody will enough stability, support and talent to help get him over and STAY over.....but alas........*sigh*

And also, since when "Brain Damage" is a lame escuse??? In any case, I think the Punk/Benoit feud was the best thing to ever be schenduled in ECW to happen. Would've turned to whole thing into an A-Show, probably even a must-see show. Too bad it never happened. El Cernex

Multiple Benoit/Punk matches would have ruled, but that would have been too similar to the multiple Benoit/MVP matches that would have taken the same format.
