At 5:30 AM, or 8:30 AM for us East Coast-biased bastards, the Oscars for 2007 will be finally announced. With the nominations finally in, we can easily predict who'll win most categories, or at least for me to handicap. Anyway, your predictions is as good as mine (i.e. No Friggin Idea)....but I dig these picks that somebody booked a few days ago: www.thefilmexperience.net/Awards/2007/tally.html

Looking forward to it. I did my version of most of these awards (with nominees announced 3 days beforehand) last night on another forum to try and get that off topic section (its a football forum), into movie mood.

Disclaimer: There were a few movies I havent seen. Gone Baby Gone, Assassination of Jesse James (geez, sorry Casey Affleck), Into The Wild, The Savages, and most of the foreign films that have a chance at getting nomination nods. I didnt nominate or give awards to anyone that I didnt actually see perform last year, so yea. I also had my own default # of nominations per category, as opposed to say, only the 3 best visual nominations the oscars give. And just to point out, Im not a movie expert. Just a guy that watches a lot of movies that was bored, and decided to do an award show to try and get some movie discussion going on a football forum.

There were a lot that I wanted fit in for nominations that I didnt get to though (Im a nomination mark, I care more about who gets nominated than who wins). Eastern Promises and American Gangster for best picture, Russell Crowe for either of his 2 major roles this year, Ruffalo for Zodiac, and Dano for TWBB both almost got supporting actor nods, and I almost gave Ronan the 5th spot over Ruby Dee for Supp Actress for making me hate her so much in Atonement.

Well, Viggo deserves an Oscar nod DEFINATELY for PROMISES. Then again, poor Cronenberg is gonna get screwed out of any Oscar nom because: (A) He doesn't shoot pretentious Art Films (B) Has no up-the-ass Paul Haggis-esque social message this side of an after-school special (C) No Oscar-hype machine behind it. I tell you this.....in 10 years, ATONEMENT will be forgotten while ZODIAC, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and GANGSTER and so forth will last.

I remember when 'Shakespeare In Love' beat 'Saving Private Ryan'. And today people still talk about Saving Private Ryan and no one ever brings up Shakespeare In Love.

I saw it right after it won the Globe for best drama, so maybe it was my expectations. I loved the first third of the film. The Setup to the whole story at the country house, the accidental letter, me wanting to choke the little girl, and so on. I hated the middle. It dragged to me. I wasnt interested in any of the war stuff, or anything the teenage girl was doing as a nurse. The ending im told is very surprising and poweful in the book. It was just there to me. I like the concept but... I was still flat from the middle of the movie which I didnt like at all. That said, it looked pretty and had good music! (I loved the typewriter / music combo they did)

When people talk about LOVE, its not about the quality*, but of Miramax's legendary Oscar strategy towards victory that everyone else tries to duplicate now. *=Its actually a decent movie, but thats about it.

(I loved the typewriter / music combo they did) My problem with ATONEMENT (never read the novel) is that practically the movie is about someone making (several) mistakes, and then penning her "atone" feeling more selfish than actually doing the right thing. Or maybe it was the wedding sequence that made me throw a shoe at the screen. Maybe it worked as a novel, but as a movie? Not impressed really. No wonder its lost massive Oscar steam in the last few weeks.

Just a random comment, im on the "Samantha the Dog from I Am Legend" bandwagon. Supporting Actress nod please. That movie went completely downhill for me when she... stopped being in the movie.

Personally, I think this Oscar year has really picked up towards the end, there's some good, good films out there.

Animal performers should have their own Oscar award. And with that said Bart The Bear should get a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Though I agree with other folks, if this was any other year, GANGSTER would have been nominated for Picture, Director, etc., as the box-office champion of the bunch. Or it might, who knows. We'll find out soon enough.

I think that two of my favorite movies this year will get completely shut out. I Loved 3:10 and Zodiac, but highly doubt either grab any nominations. Maybe costume for 3:10 I guess.
