These movies are probably good, unfortunately many of them have had very brief theatrical runs. Maybe the additional exposure will do good for them.

Hell, when solid quality I really dug like WAR, HOT FUZZ, and WE OWN THE NIGHT don't make the Top 10 of mine..... That says something.

I had it posted, along with my "Close But No Cigar" runners-up listing...but for quick simplication: (1) NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (2) ZODIAC (3) EASTERN PROMISES (4) AMERICAN GANGSTER (5) THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (6) ONCE* (7) SHOOT 'EM UP (8) THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (9) BUG (10) 3:10 TO YUMA Of course mind you, I haven't seen THERE WILL BE BLOOD or I'M NOT THERE, etc. Take that as you will. *=Those that remember my list, will notice that ONCE wasn't on it. Well, I saw it since then, and its Top 10-list worthy. Formerly #10 was SWEENEY TODD.

I realllllly want to see Jesse James. Mine is... #1 - There Will Be Blood #2 - Sweeney Todd #3 - No Country #4 - Juno #5 - 3:10 To Yuma #6 - American Gangster #7 - Michael Clayton #8 - Eastern Promises #9 - Zodiac #10 - Charlie Wilson's War Seems typical, i know.. cept for maybe the high ranking for Todd.

Let's see. I've seen No Country, Eastern Promises, American Gangster, Bourne, Shoot 'Em Up and 3:10, and would probably include all of those in my favorite movie list. I want to see There Will Be Blood, and I'm going to rent Jesse James and Michael Clayton when they comes out next month. I don't really want to make a ranking list, but mine would probably also include Juno, Gone Baby Gone, Rescue Dawn (or does that count as 2006?), and, for sheer enjoyment factor, Transformers. Let's not talk about that last movie.

There's no such thing as a "typical" list. and I like your list. Of course I thought ZODIAC was more bold and ground-breaking than say MICHAEL CLAYTON...but hell, CLAYTON is a pretty damn good drama. I need really to see JUNO so I can take an opinion of an Oscar-nominated movie.

This was at imdb.com:
Greenwood & Vedder's Scores Ineligible for Oscar
Radiohead rocker Jonny Greenwood and Eddie Vedder both missed out on a Best Score Oscar nomination for There Will Be Blood and Into The Wild, because both soundtracks were ruled ineligible. Many Oscar watchers were left stunned when the rock stars' movie score efforts were seemingly ignored by voters, but Oscar rules left both stars compositions out of the running. Greenwood's music for There Will Be Blood missed out because officials at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences decided that a large part of it was not written specifically for the film, which picked up eight Oscar nominations on Tuesday . A proportion of the soundtrack was taken from Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver composition, which was commissioned by the BBC, and won him a British Composer Award in 2007. And Pearl Jam singer Vedder's soundtrack for Sean Penn Into The Wild was also deemed ineligible for an Academy Award nomination - because the score is too "song-based."
And I see 'Sweeny Todd' has also been left out of the music categories. And 'Enchanted' has 3 songs nominated.
The Academy sucks. "We have to follow the rules".

I'm glad Juno got so many nominations. Except I bet it will only one, and thats for Ellen Page who was amazing. No else in that category is strong enough, and Cate Blanchett was better in I'm Not There.

Or, Page wins too. The thing about Page is, Julie Christie has a shot of an upset here. NEVER ever count out old people in acting categories.

Anyway, ONCE will win Best Original Song...as it probably should. God forbid if Disney wins for stacking a goddamn category.

A little upset that "The Kite Runner" didn't get nominated for more(only got best original score). But whatev. Can't win them all. Maybe the author's next movie The problem with KITE RUNNER's Oscar chances was... (1) Overcrowded year of movies. When AMERICAN GANGSTER got nearly zip, you know you have a very tough year for Oscars... (2) Every media-mention about KITE RUNNER wasn't about its positive reviews or what not, but that of the unfortunate situation with the child-actor stars of RUNNER. America, the Middle-East.......united together, in our religious nutjobs with guns.

Plenty of good movies But very limited releases for them (I don't think Blood even went wide yet)
