I remember when I was a kid I loved the old 90s rap songs for some reason, but then got into my stupid "OMG rap takes no talent" stuff. But now I like alot of it, and IMO great rap songs can be just as a good as a great rock song. Its gotta be stuff like Encore by Eminem and Forgot About Dre. The beats can be amazing and the lyrics just go so fast. But alot of the stuff out today is annoying, you gotta look hard to find good stuff.
What about yall? I think Jay Z, Kayne, Dr Dre, Tupac (yeah as usual) and Eminem are the best. Nothing can beat Encore by Eminem, Dre, and even 50 Cent....

I used to listen to rap around when i was in like the ninth grade. But I always felt like I was just listening to it because it seemed that everyone else was. I didn't like basing my musical tastes on that and I soon discovered old hardcore punk and metal bands and the like. Haven't looked back since

Yeah, I had my "rap is awful" phase for a couple of years too...but when "99 Problems" by Jay-Z came out I got back into it again...and now I'm a huge fan of it. I don't really dig crunk or any other really popular "party rap"...but stuff with intelligence, great rhyme schemes, awesome flow, great beats...I love it.
A few of my favourite artists:
Weerd Science Eminem Lupe Fiasco Kanye West Jay-Z Common El-P Ghostface Killah Atmosphere Outkast a lot more...
But yeah...in the past few years I've become a huge fan.

I got into it and never really god out of it. I agree... the Shady/Aftermath has basically kills. Between Dre, Shady, D12, 50, G Unit, Game, etc. their beats and bars are awesome.
I listen to a lot of rap, even some underground stuff but it seems like the underground stuff is either solid or abismal. About the only thing I don't really care for are the "hook" tracks like Soulja Boy, etc.
I've been getting into Ugly Duckling lately after hearing "Smack" on Project 8... great group.

I like a lot of rap from the 90s, don't know why, but the artists were way better ,I think it's mainly because it was such a fresh concept and everything was 'new', being brought to surface.
I like The Roots, Common, Ice Cube(As racist as he is), Slick Rick, Talib, etc.

Rap's as easy as any other genre. Indeed. It's just as easy to write a terrible rap song as it is to write a terrible rock song. And both are equally awful. And Macho Man may be terrible...but at least he's entertaining at it.

Look at my sig...most of you don't know who that is but you should know if you listen to rap.
Anyway, do hip-hop a favor and listen to these artists: MF Doom...Elzhi...Joell Ortiz....Joe Budden...Black Milk....Black Star...Talib Kweli....Lupe Fiasco...Mos Def...Little Brother....KRS-One
Just listen to any of them and your ears will thank you...

I go in and out between rap and metal all the time
the stuff in rap is just un-interesting to me now, iono why.
I'm also confused as to how ghostface still has a record deal with defjam when they can never figure out how to distribute his records to a newer fan base.
I also fail to understand why budden keeps delaying a MIXTAPE!!! not an album... a mixtape.
and now cage has fallen off but shia lebouff wants to make a movie about his life. I ask, why?
