6. Bruiser Brody Highest Ranking: #1 Bruiser Brody has been one of the most influential wrestlers of all time as most hardcore wrestlers today pattern their styles from Brody. He made his mark in the Mid-West and other NWA promotions and Japan until making it big in WCCW where he feuded with the Freebirds, Gary Hart and Skandar Akbar. He became huge in the Puerto Rico promotion, WWC. He feuded with Abdullah the Butcher and Carlos Colon in wild and bloody brawls. He was also rumored to have been hired to attack Mr. T before Wrestlemania 1 so the event would be ruined, this would be because of him getting blackballed by WWF. He would be murdered in 1988 in San Juan by wrestler/promoter Jose Huertez Gonzales Tribute Video: Bruiser Brody vs. Giant Baba www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU3BYf4mljoIs that a tooth hanging off his chain?

5. Raven Highest Ranking: #3 After going around the wrestling scene in the early 90s as Scotty the Body, Scotty Flamingo and craptastic gimmick Johnny Polo, Scott Levy created one of the most interesting and complex characters in wrestling, Raven. He went to ECW and became its biggest players in the 2 years that he was with the company. He led a group of misfits such as Stevie Richards, the Blue Meanie, Nova, Brian Lee and others as he feuded with The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer and the Pitbulls. Raven and Stevie would win the ECW World Tag team titles from the Pitbulls twice until losing them in a double dog collar match. He would win the ECW World Title twice and would main event ECW's first PPV. He would leave to WCW in 97 where he had the same gimmick and formed an even weirder group with Stevie along with Sick Boy, a dirty Billy Kidman, a Sign Guy Dudley ripoff, Lodi, Saturn and others as he and Saturn would win the WCW Tag Team titles and would win the WCW US Title, all along bringing a hardcore style with him. He would go back to ECW after a string of horrible storylines and win the tag team titles twice again, once with long time rival Tommy Dreamer and once with Mike Awesome. Before ECW folded, Raven jumped to the WWF and was put in the hardcore division where he won the belt 24 times(remember 24/7) He would have his biggest push on Heat until finally being released. He would go to ROH and put over a young CM Punk in wild brawls and hardcore matches as well have him in his stable in TNA as Raven would feud with Jeff Jarrett over the NWA title. Raven would finally win the NWA title in 2005 when he won a King of the Mountain match. 4. Abdullah the Butcher Highest Ranking: #2 Abdullah started his wrestling career in Canada with the "Madman from the Sudan" character and adobted a violent style of wrestling, similar to The Sheik in the mid-west US territories. He would win the NWA North American title (Calgary) four times between 1970-1973. He would be recognize for his hardcore style when he went All Japan Pro Wrestling and won their biggest tournament the Grand Champion Carnvial in both 1976 and 79. He would win the NWF and PWF world titles and had hard battles with Giant Baba. His biggest bloodbathes would take place in Puerto Rico in WWC where he feuded with Carlos Colon, Bruiser Brody and others. He won the WWC North American, Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Universal all during his over 20 year stint in the promotion. He continues to wrestle for indy promotions, Puerto Rico and Japan. 3. Mick Foley Highest Ranking: #1 Mick Foley's career in wrestling is a long and bloody one. After being a job guy in the WWF, he gained a cult following with his Cactus Jack character. He would be hired by WCW and be a main eventer, feuding with Sting and Big Van Vader and have his ear torn off thanks to Vader and would win the WCW World Tag team titles with Kevin Sullivan twice. He would go to ECW and have a breakout match with Sabu. Afterwards he would spit on the WCW tag title and got a ton of heat where he got jobbed out and got fired. He would stay in ECW and win the ECW tag team titles with Mikey Whipwreck and feud with Public Enemy, The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer. His promos in ECW are some of the best in his career especially his anti-hardcore promos. While competing in ECW, he would particiapte in the IWA Japan King of the Deathmatch in 1995 (said to be the most violent tournament ever) He would leave in 1996 and go to WWF as the bizzare Mankind. He was put in a feud with the Undertaker immediately and for the next 3 years would have bloody match after bloody match. He would also feud with Triple H and introduce the Dude Love character, a character created by Foley in his days as a mark. He would switch between all three characters along the way and win the WWF tag team titles eight times with Steve Austin, Kane, The Rock, Al Snow and would win the WWF title three times, all from the Rock. He would also be the first WWF hardcore champion. Foley went into semi-retirement and came back for an occasional match. Now he's the announcer of Smackdown. 2. Sabu Highest Ranking: #1 Sabu was trained by his uncle, the Original Sheik and he developed the Sabu character based off his uncle's character. He would get his first break in the early ECW, where he was brought in straped in chains and had wild brawls throughout the arena. A day after making his debut, he would win the ECW world title from Shane Douglas. He would trade the title and the Television title with Terry Funk over the years and have an infamous barbed wire match in which afterwards, there would be no more barbed wire matches in ECW. He would win the ECW World tag team titles three times with Tazmaniac and RVD. After ECW folded, he would go around to XPW, 3PW, CZW, TNA and other promotions, putting more scars on his body. He would be hired by WWE as part of the new ECW until being fired a year afterwards. Tribute Video: Sabu vs. Terry Funk (No Ropes Barbed Wire Match) www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPDrnFVs6fU

1. TERRY FUNKHighest Ranking: #1 Terry Funk made his debut in 1965 and started in the Southern and Western NWA territories until in December 1975, he defeated Jack Brisco in a 60 minute 2 out of 3 falls match to win the NWA world title and hold it for 14 months. He would start touring in Japan and Puerto Rico and start having hardcore matches, he would adapt the style and bring it back to the states as he would start working for the NWA, SCW and the WWF. In 1993 he would start working for the early ECW and feud with Public Enemy with Dory Funk and have a barbed wire match to settle the feud. He would help ECW get on the map with the famous 3 way dance between him, Sabu and Shane Douglas. He would main event ECW's first PPV and win the ECW World Title from Raven at the end of the night. He would lose the title a few weeks later to Sabu in a barbed wire match. He would also compete in FMW while working in ECW until going to the WWF again as Chainsaw Charlie. When that didn't get over, he was just known as Terry Funk. He and Cactus Jack would win the WWF Tag team titles at Wrestlemania in a Dumpster match (originally was supposed to be a barbed wire match). He would be around in the WWF for little over a year until he retired...again. He would come back to WCW in 2000 as the commisioner/wrestler and win the Hardcore title until the company was sold. He would go around the indys like XPW and 3PW, All Japan, TNA, IWA-MS, ROH and Hardcore Homecoming. He would come back to the WWE for the 2nd One Night Stand to team with Tommy Dreamer against Edge and Mick Foley. And There it is. Remember if you didn't like where a guy was placed, remember blame everyone but me. Yeah I know Blackman and Crash and Stevie and Holly were controversial picks but hey people voted for them and I wasn't going to fix this. Besides Funk and Sabu were seperated by two points, Foley wasn't even near them as most people either had Funk and Sabu at 1 or 2.

A good top five. One question: Raven and Mike Awesome as ECW Tag Champs?! What was the storyline behind this, because this is awesome! (clap clap, clap clap clap)

Not a bad outcome, overall. It's nice to know that people still think highly of Terry Funk rather than let his time in the WWF / WWE taint their impression of his career.
Did anyone vote for "Spyder" Nate Webb or JC Bailey? Neither of those guys made my list, but have certainly had good hardcore matches. One guy who I did vote for who seemingly got lost in the shuffle (or simply didn't get enough support) is The Arsenal.
I ranked Necro at #1, but in retrospect, I probably should've put Raven in that spot. Raven is really deserving of that spot in my eyes for putting on very impressive hardcore matches while performing them wisely, in a minimalist, 'safe' fashion. His ring psychology is probably second only to Jake Roberts, and for that reason, he can put on exciting matches without having to endanger his body with excessive 'ultraviolence.'

I very nearly considered Nate Webb somewhere towards the bottom of the chart, the matches he had in the IWA KOTDM 2002 and 2003 against Pondo and the COD 6 match are all insane, but everyone else in the list i put together seemed so strong . Only thing i've seen of The Arsenal are CZW's TOD 3 matches against Evil Ninja and Sexxxy Eddy, and i've seen more of Eddy, so he ended up on there.

You and I seem to think alike as far as rankings for this thread go. As far as The Arsenal goes, I recall him wrestling at CZW's first TOD event in a tag team match. He's also been one of IWS' top stars, but like you, I ranked SeXXXy Eddy much higher on my list.

Unfortunatley, nobody voted for Bailey for Nate Webb, though I did vote for Johnny Webb as my #20 but that really didn't help.
As for Raven and Awesome winning the tag titles, pretty much Dreamer and Tanaka were teaming and they beat the Impact Players for the tag titles, then Raven and Awesome teamed together to face their arch-rivals and they won the titles from them.

Arsenal is probably the better Hardcore worker (since I think he's always been a deathmatch guy while Eddy didn't really do a lot of deathmatches until CZW), but Eddy deserves all the praise he gets for him drinking his own blood at TOD 3. That was by far one of the most stomach churning sights I've ever seen.

This thread was great. Good job to the original poster, I smurfing loved reading through the list. Hear hear! Thirded! Great job achayes. I was kinda surprised at the lack of Japanese wrestlers. I don't follow much Japanese wrestling myself, so only one made my list (Mr. Pogo), but I figured the others on this board would have a bunch on their lists.
