This was at a Raw taping, right? Maybe the Raw writers wanted to get a good look at his work in order to determine if he could work well as the hired gun that teams with Ted DiBiase Jr. If I was Ted Jr. I'd hire The Great Khali

The problem with Danielson is that, like CM Punk, his notoriety is overwhelming (at this point in time, it probably exceeds the hype Punk received upon his signing with WWE).
If he were to join them, anything they did with him wouldn't be enough in the eyes of fans and supporters.

I didn't get the punk supporters back when he debuted. He was undefeated and then wrestled on Summerslam, Survivor Series with the Hardyz and DX, then main evented at D2D, had a strong showing at Royal Rumble...and he even won the ECW title.
He was booked slow, steadily, and strong. But it wasn't enough for the Punk Fans.
They wanted him to get an Ultimate Warrior/Goldberg like push. Which he sort of got with that win streak.
Now they'd probably want DAnielson beating HHH, Cena, Edge, Batista, Orton, and HBK in his debut match and no selling their moves. If he doesn't "wwe is wasting him"
Seriously I remember people were complaining that Punk didn't destroy Big SHow...wtF?

I never found out what the big deal about this goofball is. Seeing as you've apparently made your mind up on him, there's probably not much that can be said that would convince you.
