Seriously, what's with the floodgates opening and WWE turning into a farmyard for green, underdeveloped newbies with no charisma, gimmicks or personalities, and costumes that look like they came from HighSpots.
Braden Walker...Primo Colon...Scotty Goldman...Ryan Reddick...Evan Bourne...Ricky Ortiz. No to mention other "I escaped the cut" talents like Kenny Dykstra, Funaki, Jamie Noble, Bam Neely, and D-Lo. These are the kind of action figures I expect to see sitting on WalMart shelves for the next year to come.
I mean, am I watching Raw and Smackdown - the two elite TV shows from the premier wrestling organization in the world - or a TV taping of FMW??
At least give them "Ron Killings" style intros so that we can get to know them, or gimmicks, or a sweet entrance. ANYTHING. If these boys were debuting in 1998 when Russo was around, they would've come in with great gimmicks to get over immediately.
The unknown Andrew Martin debuted as "Test", a former violent bodyguard of Motley Crue.
The unknown Adam Copeland debuted as "Edge", a gothic tortured soul with a mysterious connection to Gangrel.
The unknown Sean Morley debuted as "Val Venis", outrageous porn star.
Three instantly over, credible superstars. And all unknown newcomers.
Do you get what I'm saying? I wish WWE would stop being so creatively lazy and give these guys a chance instead of making them look, act and feel like jobbers.

You have to build people somehow. Wrestling goes through phases of how they like to do this. Always have, always will.
Evan Bourne is getting over rather quickly. Ricky Ortiz is getting over even faster. Primo Colon had 2.3 seconds so far.
Are we watching the same shows?

You're correct.
I'd also like to add that I wish WWE would take more chances with younger talent. What I mean is, instead of going with the whole "Wrestler debuts and wins squash matches for a million weeks" formula, why can't a new wrestler debut and be put up to midcard or upper-midcard? Maybe even by attacking someone like Cena or something.
It's worth the risk, even if they only do it once or twice.

Is ECW still doing the "New Talent Initiative" or did they drop that angle after a couple of weeks?

The "debut and have a six minute match with Armando" experiment was particularly cringe worthy.

Seems like they're just throwing guys out there and seeing who sticks.

Is ECW still doing the "New Talent Initiative" or did they drop that angle after a couple of weeks? No. Ricky Ortiz is fighting a new debut tonight. But yea, the current system isn't good. The way they did Matt Sydal is pretty good. He has a pretty even record, which with his wrestling style is perfectly believable. Now Braden Walker.........THAT is how you DON'T debut someone.

Or Santino beating Umaga for the IC Belt in his first match? Or Carlito when he beat Cena for the US Title? Or when Beth Phenoix debuted and took the title in span of a month?
What you are asking for is already happening and has been for a number of years.

Braden Walker, Evan Bourne, and Ricky Ortiz don't count, as they are on ECW. That's what the show is there for. Once they're over with the "right people," they'll move on. Primo Colon and Ryan Reddick don't count either, since we've only seen them for collectively two minutes. They might have plans for them, we don't know. About the rest:
Scotty Goldman - He has a character, judging by his promo before his match. He's Colt Cabana, only under a different name.
Funaki and Jamie Noble - Their respective characters haven't changed for years.
D'lo - Still riding the "I used to work here!" nostalgia wave. If he is still doing that by, say, November, then you might have a point.
Bam Neely - He is (kayfabe) a border guard turned bodyguard... for a man of Latino heritage. Isn't that the kind of character development your looking for?
The only one that I can agree with you on is Kenny Dykstra, but even then, we don't know where his "push" (if there even is one) is headed. Again, give it a few months.

I always love the overreactions to the debut of new talents, and how they're just generic losers that will never go anywhere because of how they're debuted. Like that one John Cena kid that debuted out of nowhere to no reaction whatsoever and jobbed to Kurt Angle. Whatever happened to that kid?

He was in a faction with Edge and Rey Mysterio for like, a week. Then he vanished. Shame, he wasn't too bad against Angle. On that note, who's Kurt Angle?

He was the guy that carried that chocolate coin around on that fancy rope! Remember when Tazz handed him his ass on a silver platter in New York? That's like the only time I remember Kurt Ankle doing anything.

What you are asking for is already happening and has been for a number of years. That's kinda my point though, the guys you listed were either: - given clear definable characters (Beth Phoenix is a Chyna-esque tough Amazon chick, Santino was a likable Italian underdog, Spirit Squad were five obnoxious male cheerleaders and WWE's only faction at the time) - given a good rub (Dibiase being introduced by his Hall of Famer dad sure as hell didn't hurt) - or introduced with some slick vignettes to get the character over before he even debuted (Carlito, R-Truth, etc). Definitely more of a chance of those guys getting over than what Ryan Reddick and Braden Walker got.
