No, they won it because they are a good team. They just don't need Williams. He is a good player on a team full of good players. One reason he's not getting major attention is the rest of the team around him is so good that he just doesn't stand out(unless you look at his stats, and most football fans don't). He'd be more famous to the common football folk if he was on a team that either isn't as good as the Panthers or a team that really needs a running back. What is around him has nothing to do with how well he has played in comparison to the other running backs in the league. I mean...when The Cowboys had Aikman, Irvin, Smith, and Johnston they probably didn't NEED Jay Novececk but he was still one of the best players at his position and a perenial Pro Bowler. I don't see your logic here. Actually the argument could be made that Jay was way more important than he gets credit for, as after his retirement Aikman missed one of his favorite unsung weapons who could be relied on to get a first down whenever needed when teams keyed up on Emmitt and Irvin. Once he was gone, the team never was quite the same. Still a valid point you're making, I just want to give Novacek the credit he deserved for being an important/ if overlooked cog in the machine there.

DeAngelo Williams is having a Pro-Bowl caliber season, I'd say. Him, Peterson, and either Turner or Westbrook are probably the most deserving of getting on the team. MB III doesn't even belong in the conversation; he's having a major down year by his standards.

Of course much of that can probably be attributed to this being his first time having to carry the load/ teams knowing what to expect from him now.
Plus as much as I love MB III.. his style of play doesn't lend itself to career longevity.

Reason I voted for Barber is he is bar none the best 4th quarter RB in the league. Just watch his games. He plays his best in the 4th quarter.

I wish I cared about the Pro Bowl. Most years I don't even bother to vote, cuz once the Super Bowl is over I just check out of football. It's very rare I'll even tune the game on.

I approve of the name of this thread!
Last night proved to me that Ryan Kalil and Jeff Otah are pro bowlers. Last time we played Tampa they were out and we rushed for like 40 yards.
Last night they were back, we rush for 300 yards. Plus Otah is a straight up monster.

that's true. I'll sometimes get down to watch the Arkansas Twisters.. but I THINK they're AF2 or whatever that's called. So maybe they'll escape unscathed, as it's usually a fun time.

Statistically, Barber's worst rushing quarter this season has been the 4th quarter. (Carries, Yards, Average by quarter) 1st: 65, 249, 3.8 2nd: 55, 234, 4.3 3rd: 55, 211, 3.8 4th: 50, 176, 3.5 I chose eight other RBs that have total rushing yards higher than Barber (with the exception of Westbrook, who is slightly below). Peterson, Turner, Portis, D-Will, Jacobs, Westbrook, Thomas Jones, Chris Johnson. Every one of them has a higher 4th quarter rushing average than Barber (Portis is at the top at 5.7 YPR). Whether it's Barber not being accustomed to being a featured back for the duration of a game/season, being without Felix Jones for a small stretch of games, or something else all together, MB III has not been his normal self this season.

Statistically yeah the 4th is his worst, but it is also when he make his biggest plays. Also, Barber can't carry a team the entire game. He NEEDS to play in a Thunder & Lightning back set up. They need to pair him and Tashard Choice for the rest of the season.

I know the UIF folded, but it merged with another league, so now the Sioux City Bandits and the Sioux Falls Storm still have a league, even though I haven't been to a game for either team, and I really want to go to one. Otherwise, I watch the Desperados.

Koda, I was checking stats, and there is no way MBIII is better than D-Will this year. He's not even better than Slaton!:
Steve Slaton = 1,024 yards MBIII = 870 yards
Slaton = 8 TD's MBIII = 7 TD's
Slaton = 5.0 yards per carry MBIII = 3.9 yards per carry
Slaton = 206 attempts MBIII = 225 attempts
Look, I have all the respect in the world for MBIII. The guy busts his ass play in and play out, but c'mon.

Also, let's not forget he is also one of the main receivers for Dallas, so he has a lot more yards/TDs than just his rushing stats show. He is a total package player. That was another reason I voted for him. Hell if it wasn't for him, Dallas wouldn't have even had a shot at going to overtime against Arizona. His huge 70+ yard TD reception allowed for that. Add on MBIII's receiving stats.

With the implications created by what has happened....can you really blame them. Hell, I know I will be watching NBC on that night. Go Panthers.....

Yeah, but Insomniac already has shown that he doesn't do anything more in the 4th Quarter.
As far as recieving goes, him and D-Will both have the same amount of recieving TDs (2 each).
Total TD's (receiving + running): D-Will: 15 MBIII: 9
Total Yards (recieving + running): D-Will: 1,259 MBIII: 1,236
Total Possesions (carries + receptions): D-Will: 231 MBIII: 272
Total Fumbles: D-Will: 0 MBIII: 6
So even with Receiving and Running D-Will still has the better stats with 40 less oppurtunities!

Difference is Carolina's o-line doesn't tire out so easily. So of course it takes less attempts for him to do anything. Also let's not forget Barber missed 1 whole game and didn't finish the Seattle game. All in all, they are about even.

It doesn't matter if he missed a game, he's had more touches. He's had 40 more oppurtunities, but has done less. They aren't about even. D-Will is clearly better. I looked up some more receiving stats for Slaton to.
Slaton: 37 receptions, 290 yards receiving, 7.8 yards a catch, longest 46, 1 TD, 0 fumbles MBIII: 47 receptions, 366 yards receiving, 7.8 yards a catch, longest 70, 2 TD, 3 fumbles
That's about even, but we're not comparing receivers.
Another thing you're trying to do is shift some blame to another aspect of Carolina's game, the O-Line, but you don't want to look at another aspect. The fact that Carolina's offense isn't geared toward passing to the RB. If it was D-Will would be WAAY past MBIII. That's why I don't bother in "What ifs" and "What could have beens" because everybody has something to say about that. The only thing we can accuratly compare is what is.

Like I said, he's done less cause he's had to work with a weaker o-line than Williams has. Put Williams in Dallas or Barber in Carolina and their stats will flip.
