From a pure yearly salary basis, that's the best he's going to get. He's not going to get $25 million a year if he signs with a long-term deal with Los Angeles or San Francisco. I think Manny and Boras would be wise to take the offer, considering how horribly Boras has botched Ramirez's situation over the past eight months. Manny should take his $25 million this year and walk into the 2009-2010 offseason as one of only two legitimate power-hitting threats on the open market (Matt Holliday being the other).

Who the hell are they bidding against?
Yeah, Manny should be all over that.

There's 2 teams I am keeping my eyes on so far. Oddly enough, Seattle has made a lot of smart deals, and while I don't think they'd be in contention in a credible league, I think they'll do very well in the cellar that is the West (I only say that because BOTH AL and NL West are basically jokes these past few seasons). The other, however, WAS going to be Kansas City, until I read up on how they traded away their best feature last season, relief pitching. Problem with relief pitching, however, is that there is no such thing as consistency, it's almost always 1 season good, a few seasons bad. There are few exceptions to the rule (Rafael Perez, for example ) Cleveland will do VERY well next season, if not for the aquisitions of DeRosa, Joe Smith (shut up, I like sidearm guys!) and Wood, but Asdrubal is due for another late season streak, Barfield needs to prove his mettle (and, unlike Marte, I truly believe he will), and the low-risk-high-reward for Pavano. Plus, being an "odd" season, Cleveland's pitching will be simply unhittable. Plus, I think Ben Francisco is due a breakout season. With an outfield of that, Sizemore (overall the best CF in the game today) and Shin Soo Chu (with a name that awesome, he has to be good), Cleveland has a great outfield... and all without Franklyn Gutierrez to suck it up. If Cliff Lee can keep up, Pavano being a potentially great investment, and Westbrook due back midseason sometime, Cleveland will have a very good rotation, and I think Fausto Carmona is due his Cy Young season.... so we can have a three-peat. The only question marks are how will DeRosa do back in the AL, can Kobayashi wind up proving himself in his contract year, and how many "The Indians name is racist and hateful" people will show up to opening game this year? All in all, the AL Central and AL East will remain the hottest divisions in the league (Moreso for Tampa's follow-up, Boston gaining nothing but losing almost less, New York with the new stadium and look, and Cleveland, Chicago, and Minnesota fighting for dominance). The other divisions are the real question marks... You forgot about the team that's going to win the Central. The Tigers. ;D

But no one will pay more than that. Not in this market. I can't remember who, but someone on ESPN basically said for that price you could get 2 players who could give you comparable numbers combined. Granted, not the sick playoff numbers, but still. He has to take this offer if it's real. Boras had his bluff called real bad and he needs to man up and take the loss.

I think it was 2/45, but that ship seems to have sailed. If he can get $25 mil even for a one year deal in the present market, I think he makes out pretty well. And then he can re-enter the market next year, under hopefully better conditions... course he'll be a year older, so it's a little bit of a gamble. But I don't see anybody coming along and topping this offer, either.

Not if the Mets (or Giants) go to two. 2 years, with 25 in the first year? Highly, HIGHLY unlikely, even for the Mets, who apparently are sitting back or are making some silent moves. But at this point if it's a 2 year deal, he could maybe get a second year for 25, but not likely. If that deal existed, it would have been offered and accepted by now.

There is absolutely no way the Giants offer Ramirez two years, $50 million. Absolutely, positively no way does that happen. The Mets would consider it, but throwing $25 million at Manny Ramirez for the 2010 season, when he'll be 38 years old in a league without a Designated Hitter could get real ugly for Mets fans and front office. Like I said, if Ramirez and Boras want to admit defeat, they would be best suited to take the Dodgers' offer and prepare for the bids for the 2009-2010 offseason.

Oh little Indians fan. So optimistic. Hey, the Cubs are the NL Central version of the Indians. I wouldn't talk. Atleast the Cubs broke the streak of making the playoffs one year, then sucking for 3. The Indians are still in that rut it seams. ;D

If you ask me, the Dodgers should forget Manny and sign Dunn for probably less than half the cost. But then, no one ever asks me.

Already rejected the offer? That was quick. I'd have thought Boras would draw it past the 48 hour deadline. What are they thinking? He's not getting more money than that/a 4 year deal and would be better off trying again next year with hopefully a better economy.
