The Twins are no longer open to taking on Jarrod Washburn's salary in talks with the Mariners, says the Star Tribune.

The New York Daily News reported that the White Sox made an $8M offer to Bobby Abreu on Tuesday. mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090203&content_id=3794534&vkey=news_cws&fext=.jsp&c_id=cws"If Abreu's offers are in the one-year, $8 million range as reported, then their salary isn't much different with Jermaine Dye set to earn $11.5 million in 2008. Dye has a $12 million mutual option for 2010, with a $1 million buyout." *But, as the Reds have shown, nobody wants to pay for Dye's contract. It's not that Jermaine isn't WANTED (his name was rumored to be with many teams this off-season), its that his contract is unappealing.* "A primary difference comes in the respective style of play for these two All-Star-caliber players, along with the side of the plate from which they hit. Abreu has more speed and apparent on-base potential, while Dye remains more of a slugger, with his 137 home runs since 2005 standing as the most by an AL outfielder, including 34 in 2008 and 44 in 2006. Both can hit, play serviceable outfield defense and stand out as strong clubhouse presences." *Okay, well it all depends on what the White Sox want to do this year. Do they want to hit home runs or are they trying "smart-ball" again? This is like the Ken Griffey trade last year, where the heck can you put Abreu?* "There is a strong bond of friendship existing between Abreu and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and his family." *Ah, so the truth comes out. Goodbye, Jermaine.*

So, do you guys think Manny's arrogance and seemingly inability to see good deals when presented to him may have cost him a job this season?
He turned down $25 million for ONE YEAR. The vast majority of athletes across the world don't make that their ENTIRE CAREER. Also, it would be more in one year than he would've made in the $45 million 2 year deal he turned down. That deal would've averaged out to $22.5 million per year.
And now? Many teams that considered him are starting to enter their spring training or they are refusing to deal with him.
He and Boras are going to try and negotiate with the Dodgers, but to be honest, I think the Dodgers have already offered him as much as they are going to. Manny basically got caught in what I call the Deal or No Deal Trap, which is where the player of Deal or No Deal passes on a REALLY good offer by the Banker, and then the very next case they eliminate is the $1 million case, and from that point on the Banker doesn't even come close to offering a deal that they turned down. He is NOT going to get more than that $25 and $45 million he turned down.
So yeah, he turned down the highest offer the only team that could possibly keep him gave him, and now all the other teams that wanted him are slowly backing out one by one.
I say, Manny is screwed this year.

I think Boras and Manny are going to play the Roger Clemens game. Wait til the middle of the year when a team who's in a tight race will be willing to pay him some retarded high amount for half a season.

That seems like the best bet for Manny at the moment, cause currently, he isn't going to be playing a full season in 2009.

Bobby Abreu and servicable outfield defense in the same sentence? HA! Well as long as that outfield has no walls, he could be serviceable.

But yeah, he most likely won't be on the Dodgers, because, as stated, he can easily be replaced(regular season stats wise) and for over 50% cheaper.

Whatever will they do! They can hold circle jerk meetings. They're going to need them for when Brett Favre actually truthfully retires.

...he's still a Met, Ani... he's still under contract with them Actually, he was dropped December 18th... and I seriously doubt any team would be willing to sign a person accused of murder...

Unless that team was headed by Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys(remember, he accepted Adam "Pacman" Jones onto the Cowboys, and he has been accused of more than just murder.
