For those in need of a baseball-fix... anybody checking out the Caribbean World Series on MLB Network? I only checked out the Dominican Team vs. Venezuela. Boring game IMO. Orioles sign Ty Wigginton to a 2 year deal.

The Minnesota Twins are reportedly giving free agent Joe Crede a long, hard look for their 3B slot.
I like Joe, but he's not going to give you 150 games.

If you ask me, the Dodgers should forget Manny and sign Dunn for probably less than half the cost. But then, no one ever asks me. I was gonna say the same thing. 40 HR, a .380 OBP, comparable LF defense, and none of the headache/potential distraction. All that, and he'll cost 60-70% less. According to Buster Olney, the Dodgers are looking at Dunn/Orlando Hudson. They can get both of those guys for less than the cost of Manny.

Well, Minaya pretty much put the kabosh on Manny coming to the Mets at the Perez conference today. Unless the Giants go more the Dodgers offer, it's really looking like Manny may be without a job come Spring Training.

Ahem, Giants, my team, you're doing good. Manny might pull it off for you, but he isn't cheap, and really, come on, Dunn is cheaper. Get Dunn.

A lot of MLB insiders are thinking that a number of the position players and starting pitchers who appear not to be drawing much interest or suitable contract offers are considering sitting out until after the Amateur Draft, at which point teams' concerns about sacrificing a high draft pick to sign the player will not be an issue.
A player like Adam Dunn or Braden Looper can then work out a Clemens-like deal having spent the early months getting in shape. Partial year deal can then make them very attractive in the 2009-10 off seasons.

www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/02/red_sox_agree_w.htmlI like the move. Another great bargain basement find by the Red Sox front office. Wilkerson could, at best, platoon in the outfield if Bay, Drew or Ellsbury get injured. He's got some pop in his bat, as seen by his 32 HR season in 2004 with Montreal and his 20 HR season in 2007 with Texas. As of this moment, I'd actually be more comfortable with Wilkerson as the OF/1B off the bench instead of Mark Kotsay.

Wilkerson doesn't seem to have anything left in the tank. His shoulder is in terrible shape, and he looked downright awful last year. The only way he finds a spot on the team is if one or two guys get injured, but even then, there are better options already in AAA.

But, you really don't need Wilkerson, with shoulder injuries, if you got Rocco Baldelli and Mark Kotsay.

Wilkerson was disappointing last year as a Blue Jay. I expected a little more pop out of his bat. He's OK in the field, but his shoulder makes him mediocre at best, sadly.
You got Baldelli and Kotsay going for you on the bench, Wilkerson would be a good addition if he manages to shake off the shoulder injury, but that won't be very likely.

We should take bets on which one of the three is going to go down with an injury first: Kotsay, Wilkerson, Baldelli

The dude is just bad. He has no redeeming value. Yeah he'll knock one out every now and then, but he's going to hit for a shitty average and swing at some really bad pitches. He's frustrating to watch. But at least you didn't give up Soriano for him.
