Marvel/DC: Wolverine and Dr. Manhattan Wolverine and Rorschach that is beyond magnificent. anyways, I've seen the movie, fastest three hours of my life, which is amazing considering it was effectively two movies in one, where they had to both establish the characters to a new audience (whom i'm included in and oddly, i've been on comics since i was nine) and keep a massive plot rolling, quite a swoop i must admit. a minor gripe though, the soundtrack is completely out of place most of the time, poorly used and barely connected to the plot but on the other hand, it was a good choice of song.

Just got back from my second viewing. I noticed a lot more of the details in the backround this time. Like the "S.Q.U.I.D." below the monitors at Karnak. And the "Boys" file on Viedt's computer.

I hope they re-release it prior to next year's Academy Awards....and mount a "For Your Consideration" campaign for either Haley or Morgan.
Then again, I wonder how Malin Ackerman feels, reading these reviews and seeing all this praise go to Haley, Wilson, Crudup, and Morgan....and always being pointed to as a weak link. I kind of feel for her, in a way.

I do wish there more praise on Goodeman though, I thought he was a great Ozy. But granted he didn't have the screen time that the rest had.

Just got back from my second showing. Really enjoyed the seemingly unending stream of of easter eggs: The Batman Poster, Rorshach saying "follow the money," and more.
Also I think the movie subconciously got me into jiu jitsu again. Thats right, a movie hypnotized me.
Liked the music even more this time around. Thought the ending was a bit worse this time around, not the changing of the squid, but the aftermath resolution. Having SS say "it never ends" to Dan, as opposed to Doc saying it to Ozy didn't work too well for me.
Plus I am growing to hate second half of the movie Ozy, his above it all emotionless attitude is great in the first half of the movie, but during the scheme, he becomes bland and unbelievable. Would it have been too much trouble to show him cowering in fear from giant manhattan or showing any emotion whatsoever during the tv scene.
Also did anyone else notice he was watching porn on a couple of his TVs?
Overall still an awesome movie that I enjoyed even more the second time around.

Yeah, she suffers from what I like to call Katie Holmes Syndrome. You see, Holmes was in "Batman Begins," and gave a good performance. Yet, she got panned in reviews. Why? Was it that she did a bad job? No. It was because she was in a film surrounded by Christian Bale, Michael McCain, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neisen, Rutger Hauer, Gary Oldman. Basically, she was surrounded by a lot of good actors; and all Katie had really done prior to that film was "Dawson's Creek." Basically, Malin Ackerman was good but just got surrounded by better actors. Hell, Jackie Earle Haley was nominated for an Oscar before he made "Watchmen." By comparison, her performance didn't seem up to par with ther other performances.

I was reading the trivia at IMDB.com and there was one that said Gerard Butler was going to be in it but Zack Snyder was unable to find a part for him after most of the casting had been done.
So why couldn't he be Captain Metropolis? OK it would of been just two scenes (For those that don't know Captain Metropolis was at the first Watchmen meeting during Ozymandis's flashback). But it would of been cool. Might of had to do the age make up thing.

Hopefully at least a cut down version is in the directors cut.

I really hope a director's cut is released soon after the normal DVD/Blu-Ray release. But i'll probably by any release of it.

It's only being shown in New York and Los Angeles in July. But I'm sure it will get a DVD/Bluray release with the normal DVD/Bluray release or sometime later this year. Saw it last night. I thought it did probably about a good as job as a movie can do fitting as much as the story into a 3 hour movie as possible.
On the other hand, I can't see how anyone who hadn't read Watchmen would be all that interested in it. I think this is where the sheer size of the project weighs it down. There wasn't nearly enough time to build the Mask Killer conspiracy and then turn it into the massive shock of Ozymandias' plan. Again, while the film did the best it could, there was just too much and I think the average will walk out thinking "That was a cool movie" and have completely forgotten about it by summertime instead of realizing they've just witnessed the film adaptation of one of the great literary tales of the last 30 years.
Now...
This is the first Internet thread I've read on Watchmen and was expecting a heap of praise for it. But those of you thinking that this movie is going to get Academy Award acting nomination are crazy. Not even counting the fact that's incredibly early in the year to release a movie if you're banking on it to win awards, even the most solid performances in the film are nothing more than solid performances, much like dozens of movies are going to boast this year. And if you really think the Academy is going to give an Oscar to a guy in a comic book movie who wears a mask that covers his entire face for most of the film, well.....you need to study the Academy a bit more.
