Just a couple things.
1. Please don't make 20 threads about it. One or two threads is more than enough. All others will be deleted *eyes anthony*.
2. I know this is a touchy subject, but let's be careful not to flame each other or stray too far into political territory. I know that's gonna be hard, but I know you guys and gals are capable of it.
Thank you.

It was weird. When I was watching Smackdown, it seemed as if it didn't matter that Hassan was Arab. He just was like a wrestler upset that he got screwed over. And it was hilarious after Davari was going nuts in Persian and after Thedore talks to him, switches straight to English.
Then that happened. I was wondering why they dressed like that, but I eventually caught on with what was happening. It was very surreal. I think the angle will likely be dropped quickly, and it will just go back to just Undertaker and Hassan fighting. Overall though, I thought Smackdown was great tonight, the best it had been in awhile. Except that last part, which was certainly a little different.

I figured that it was too late for WWE to edit the scene out, and the most they could do was a disclaimer. That may be true. However WWE already has the video of the entire controversial scene online: www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/results/If they wanted to be sensitive to the public who is in mourning, they would not have this video up!

It goes waaaaaay beyond tasteless.
I live near the city where an American soldier lived who was taken hostage and appeared in a video by the insurgents. He is still MIA and not known to be alive or dead, but likely dead.
Of all of the families of those who have been killed by terrorists or insurgents in similar situations, it shows no respect whatsoever. Especially after what happened in London, this is a very real situation still. How dare Vince try to capitalize on it.

Vince wasn't capitalizing on what happened in London. It's a taped show, so there was pretty much nothing he can do about it.
And for all those people who asked for a Val Venis gimmick change, you got it.

Well...like you said...it was taped...could have easily been edited out...
And don't think they dont edit them in advance...since I remember when they editted out when Cena did an FU to Benoit when he just turned face...

Well...like you said...it was taped...could have easily been edited out... Exactly. In addition, the video doesnt have to be on WWE.com right now for our continued viewing pleasure. Anyway, Val was under he hood? Who were the other guys, do you know?

I don't find it offensive, more so, really dumb.
I mean, Hussan's a terrorist now?
And why is their mission to annoy a wrestling zombie? I mean JBL I might understand, or someone with a title (Orlando or Batista).

Get cable internet, a pop-up blocker, and perhaps a new computer and it gets REALLY quick and easy to access. Lucky me.

I think it ended up being a whole lot of fuss about nothing. The guys were wearing ski masks, not black hoods. It had nothing to do with what happened in London,(which had nothing to do with Arab Americans as far as we know). I think the disclaimer was more than adequate. They were as specific as they could be without spoiling the show, people had the option to make an informed decision to change the channel if they so desired.

You know...crazy as it sounds...I think they could pull off a face turn with Hussan and save this situation.
No, seriously--what would happen if, next week, they had him come out and very plainly say, "It was a character I was playing, and after last week, I'm just not willing to play that character anymore?"
Heck, you could have Vince come out and tear into him for "going off-script." Shift the emphasis from this godawful terrorist angle to "Courageous wrestler standing up to the boss."

So wait. I missed smackdown. Did they just go ahead with the terrorist cell attacking Taker and add a disclaimer?
dude, WWE is getting harder and harder to like.

*blink* *blink*... I saw some of the Hassan thing on Smackdown... I didn't have a problem with it. 1) WWE has always represented one group or another the same way they are packaging Hassan. Wasn't Sarge playing his Iraq gimick when the 1st Iraq war was on? People lost their lives there. Also La Resistance was created to take advantage of American heat toward France... It's not new.
2) People don't often complain about bad guys in movies or on television. I don't remember people saying 24 was in bad taste for showing terrorists, and yes, just like Hassan, the terrorists did win a few minor victories before the good guys win.
3) WWE had no way of knowing what was happening in London. The show was taped. Edit? Well... maybe, but I think a judgement call was made. If the angle (God forbid) had shown Hassan's men plotting to blow something up, or blwing something up then yes, an edit would have been made.
4) We are assuming that, because Hassan is of Arab decent, the people that came out were supposed to be terrorists? The were a group of guys in masks, beating up a "face" character on behalf of a "heel" character... I don't remember anyone calling Jerry Lawlor's masked Knights Medieval Terrorists... Also, if we're going to complain about representation and terminology, what about calling the WWE ppl that invaded ECW crusaders? Think about what the crusades were...
5) Fiction.... Characters... Story...
