Austin & Rock never got Cena hate because of how good they were. They were a lot better then Cena as heels or faces and the fans respected what they did.

Austin was chosen by the fans March of 97. Rock was chosen by the fans August of 98.

Like someone else said earier, if you didn't like what was going on the main event, you could ALWAYS watch the show forthe non-main-event matches and segments on the show.
Now? Not so much. It's their (WWE"S) own fault they gotten to this point. Thanks to them,

Rock got some Cena hate at various points in his career.
Austin wasn't pushed. He was chosen by the fans.

Cena is nowhere near as talented as Steve Austin was....at anything related to pro wrestling.
I was never the biggest fan of The Rock, but I'll even admit that he was a much better talker, and had more interesting character development than Cena has had.
Also, like others have said, those guys didn't always have to overcome insurmountable odds, or always appear to be the smartest, strongest, toughest, or funniest etc. all in one.
