According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Cubs have discussed the framework of a three-team deal involving Milton Bradley. The idea is described as a longshot, but here's how it would play out: Bradley will go to the Blue Jays. Lyle Overbay will head to the Mets. And Luis Castillo will land with the Cubs. The teams involved have only discussed the deal's framework, and not in direct fashion, according to Rosenthal's sources. It seems a bit far-fetched to be taken seriously at this time. paul sullivan said something about the deal possibly being off becuase the blue jays dont want milton bradley

Milton is a hell of a guy and great teammate! He'd take those Jays all the way to the top!

Bucs President Frank Coonelly had a chat with Pirates fans online about a week ago (And I missed it, darn it).
A highlight from it.
I'm just trying to confirm something, so am I the only one who reads this as, "If he was allowed to go into free agency, someone would have outbid us. So, we just traded a go-to relief pitcher to get him and his contract now."
Or are they saying "If we didn't trade for him, someone else would have."

FOXSports.com reports that the Brewers are unlikely to sign John Lackey.
Adam Rubin of the Daily News cites a team insider who says the salary demands of Matt Holliday and Jason Bay would exceed the Mets' comfort level.

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette cites "an American League source" that says the Pirates offered Matt Capps to the Brewers in exchange for J.J. Hardy.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have interest in retaining both Damon and Matsui on one-year deals. As a Red Sox fan, the best thing that could have happened in the 2009 World Series (aside from Philadelphia winning) was Hideki Matsui winning the MVP award. Now the Yankees have no option but to grossly overpay to keep him around, despite how adamant the fans and management were earlier in the season to let him go. While the money aspect is irrelevant, they are giving a roster spot to a decomposing corpse, and they'll give him all the chances in the world to prove himself, despite his incredibly declining abilities.

I just looked up his stats, and I really don't see what's wrong with him.
He had 28 HR's, 90 RBIs, .274 BA, he had his highest SLG % since 2004 and the second highest in his American carrer at .509. What the hell is so decomposing about that? He had an .876 OPS which is the 3rd highest of his American carrer.

Looking at the afore posted list, I was going to complain that the Brewers were only looking at Doug the Slug to bring back. But then I looked at the availible pitchers. I know Sheets won't come back. It looks like they can't offer Lackey the $25 mil a year he will get from the Yankees. Outside of that, I wouldn't overpay for any of these pitchers if money were a concern. I do, however, like some of the bullpen help that is out there. What I don't understand is why George doesn't just open the wallet and offer all 50 of these guys $20 mil a year. Then they can go 162-0 and sweep there way to a world series. Why pretend there is a competition if there isn't.

Oh boy, looks like offseason #2 of Operation Sign Ben Sheets is in effect. He's supposedly already met with Jon Daniels again.
Shouldn't it be easy, considering he did agree to a deal last year and then the Rangers pulled it when he had to have surgery?

What the hell is so decomposing about that? He had an .876 OPS which is the 3rd highest of his American carrer. Take into account the ballpark in which he spent half of his season. It gave Derek Jeter a re-birth and made Jorge Posada look like a competent batter. Matsui, at 35 years old, had his second-highest home run total, his second-highest slugging percentage and his second-highest OPS+. Also, take into account the fact that he is now a permanent designated hitter. Would re-signing Damon and Matsui really be that wise, considering both are better suited as DHs at this point in their careers? Can't the Yankees, with their resources, get a better option as a DH than Matsui? Basically, what I'm getting at is that if I were a Yankees fan, this news would dishearten me, knowing that the Yanks would rather keep Damon and Matsui as opposed to going after Bay or Holliday.

What does it matter where he played as long as he puts up those numbers? I mean, if he came back this year for the Yanks he'd be playing in the same ball park again so...
I mean they just won the World Series. I would never be sad about my team returning after winning it all.

I mean they just won the World Series. I would never be sad about my team returning after winning it all. There is a point where you have to cut yourself off from history for the betterment of the franchise. In 2004, the Red Sox got rid of half of their World Series winning roster. At the time, it seemed foolish, but it was for the betterment of the future. If they locked themselves into long-term deals with Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe, I highly doubt they would have won the 2007 World Series or reached the 2008 ALCS. I mean, you're a Braves fan. Would you be fine with the Braves signing John Smoltz, Ryan Klesko, Darrell May and Jason Schmidt?

John Smoltz is the only one on that list that has any kind of real history as a part of the Braves, and yes I would be fine with Smoltzie coming back. And half those people you named didn't put up numbers like Matsui did, so the comparison isn't right. Outside of Smotlz, your comparing journeymen to a star.

For the record... Matsui in 2009:
Home - .265/.354/.462 Away - .286/.383/.567
That said, I'm guessing the goal here is to use Damon/Matsui as a stop-gap before Carl Crawford becomes a free agent in 2011. I'd take Crawford over Holliday/Bay in a cocaine heartbeat.
