Not a single rumor about the Reds, but I'm not suprised. We won't do anything.

I know Jeter showed improvement in the field this year, but Elvis Andrus got robbed.
And where the f*** are Franklin Gutierrez and Carl Crawford? What are Torii Hunter and Adam Jones doing on this list? The GG is so full of s***, I don't know why I get worked up every time they screw up. Probably because someone like Franklin Gutierrez, a relative unknown in this league, is robbed of the acclaim that he should receive. And instead it's given to someone like Torii Hunter who only wins based on reputation alone.

I know Jeter showed improvement in the field this year, but Elvis Andrus got robbed. This marks the 3rd time that Jeter has won the gold glove over a far deserving canidate

only wins based on reputation alone. And there is your reason. Seriously. Gold Gloves are probably the worst of the awards given out. At least with Cy Youngs and MVPs, while subjective, it is hard to argue the person who won didn't deserve it on some level. You may think the second or third place guy deserved it, but usually the winner has good enough numbers to back up theirs. Gold Gloves almost always go to the named players who play ok to decent defense rather than the lesser known guys who bust their butts week in and week out and are great fielders.

Seems like every year there is Gold Glove backlash. I would think MLB would overhaul their process for awarding them. I mean, when it's based on defense, and the guys with the lowest error ratios are NOT winning the awards, something is wrong.

Define irony. Or maybe not, its a trick word. I got MLB 2K9 for $10. I won two World Series with the Brewers. Then, they cut my budget but still wanted me to win another World Series. Basically, I would have to get rid of most of my good players and still find a way to win. I said, forget this, and quit. So I had three options. Pittsburgh, but I didn't want to work against my beloved Brewers. Baltimore, but they were offering me a pathetic budget. And the Yankees, who are deeply in debt and have had three straight losing years. Except they did offer me a decent budget with which to build a team and they didn't expect me to win a World Series right away. So, guess who I signed with. That's right, chief Yankee hater takes a job with the Yankees to return them to glory. I just thought that was an amusing story since I have been pretty loud about hating the Yankees. Does anyone else own this game? I can't seem to get the pitching to work right and I can't hit home runs. Also, I can't seem to get the sacrafice fly to work right. The runner doesn't feel like tagging up and when he does, he just stays put, missing out on the chance to score a run.

Hence why I hate not having a PS3 so I can play The Show.

The pitching and batting in the MLB game... I set to CLASSIC, which is a lot easier to handle.
Using the sticks takes a LOT of getting used to, and it isn't something that was fun for me.

Seems like every year there is Gold Glove backlash. I would think MLB would overhaul their process for awarding them. I mean, when it's based on defense, and the guys with the lowest error ratios are NOT winning the awards, something is wrong. Right now the voting is done by coaches and managers. Thing is, how often do coaches and managers really get a chance to see everyone play? Outside of highlights and a handful of games they actually play against every team, it's impossible for them to make a judgment about a player's defensive performance for an entire season. BTW, I think errors are a particularly bad way of determining a player's defense. Sometimes the official scorer can be biased when handing out errors, and sometimes they're committed on balls that other fielders wouldn't even have been able to get to. A guy like Elvis Andrus comes to mind: 22 errors on the season, but his range is excellent and he makes marvelous plays out in the field. Ryan Zimmerman also commits quite a few errors, but he's still regarded as an excellent defensive 3B. UZR/150 is one decent defensive metric that I feel is more accurate and more indicative of defensive value than fielding percentage. Not the best in the world, and it has flaws, but I still feel it's a superior statistic.

I know Jeter showed improvement in the field this year, but Elvis Andrus got robbed. Jeter was about 20 points higher in fielding percentage and had fewer errors. Just saying.

I know Jeter showed improvement in the field this year, but Elvis Andrus got robbed. Jeter was about 20 points higher in fielding percentage and had fewer errors. Just saying. Like I said in response to Meat, fielding percentage and errors are a very flawed means of determining defensive performance. It only takes into account balls a player can actually get to, and in no way reflects upon a player's range at their respective position. That, and official scoring can be biased in that some players may or may not receive errors under certain circumstances (example: the scorer may give a player an error on a questionable call to avoid crediting the pitcher with a hit). Going by fielding percentage alone, one would think Yuniesky Betancourt is as good a fielder as Elvis Andrus. Or that Michael Young is a better defensive 3B than Adrian Beltre. Or that Nate McLouth does a better job in CF than Franklin Gutierrez. And none of those could be further from the truth. That's why I like UZR/150. It tries to take into account more than some stat that doesn't come close to telling the whole story. It's not without it's flaws (it's horrible under small sample sizes), but I find it to be significantly better and far more telling than fielding percentage.

Good. Baseball is the one sport where human error is still relevant. If you expand instant replay, it'll be a matter of time before people start complaining about the strike zones, and demanding that we have some sort of universal, automated strike zone. Baseball has too many little intricacies to have all of this instant replay. And you know what? Baseball games are already long enough.

Instead of having the head umpire go to a replay booth and take 2-3 minutes, just hire someone whose sole job is to look at replays from a booth upstairs (like in college football). He can radio down whether or not a call should be overturned. It would take seconds.
