At the very least, I think Mauer and Teixeira definitely deserve their Gold Gloves. Tex in particular is one of the best defensive first basemen I've ever seen play the game. One of the few players I can think of where I can say he had a good game even if he didn't get a single hit.

Also, in 874 plate appearances against him in 2009, he had 9 pickoffs (4 pickoff-caught stealing) and only 4 successful stolen bases against. He's pretty solid and turns Pierzynski into a passable defender every 5th day.

Poor Casey Kocthman... hasn't made an error in over a year and a half now and still can't get a GG. He didn't make an error at all this year and didn't make an error at all with the Braves in the second half of last year. In 2008 & 2009 put together he's only made 2 errors. lol

I actually feel bad for him in that regard. lol If he stayed in the NL this year I'd say there would be no way he didn't get the GG. Like I said 2008 + 2009 = only 2 errors. Dude is smooth in the field.

Would really help his chances He should try hitting home runs. I think McGuire won a GG one year and he was a pathetic 1st baseman. There have been guys who won GG that were mostly DH. Baseball writers dont know jack about defensive baseball. They just vote for a name they know, probably a slugger, and move on to whatever it is they do.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, both the Mets and Phillies have shown interest in free agent Chone Figgins.

Texas and Tampa Bay remain interesting in Milton Bradley (2 years, $21 million). Mets ownership has told Omar Minaya that he cannot acquire Bradley, but the Cubs and Mets remain in discussions over Luis Castillo (2 years, $12 million). To move Bradley, the Cubs would likely have to pay $9-10 million of Bradley's remaining contract in either case. The Cubs would want OF Marlon Byrd from Texas. There's no word about whom they would want from Tampa or whom they might send to New York.
The Cubs and LHP John Grabow are still working out details on a contract expected to be for 2 years and in the $4.5-6 million total range. The change in ownership for the Cubs has likely caused a lot of hiccups in the information flow, as Tom Ricketts must get to know baseball procedure as well as give GM Jim Hendry an official budget for 2010.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Carlos Lee is not a candidate to be traded.
Also cites a National League executive who says that the Tigers have let other teams know that Curtis Granderson is available "for the right package."
Granderson would surely have many suitors, with the Yankees near the top of the list, according to Sherman.
FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles and Giants have shown the most interest in Dan Uggla.

So the Mets are going to waste money paying a guy to play out of position just to keep him from the Phillies? And congrats to Shane and J-Roll. It's especially good for him considering his offense was so down.

Coaches and Managers vote for the Gold Gloves, not writers.

For the record, here's who the Fielding Bible thought the winners should've been: C - Yadier Molina 1B - Albert Pujols 2B - Chase Utley 3B - Ryan Zimmerman SS - Troy Tulowitzki LF - Nyjer Morgan CF - Michael Bourn RF - Hunter Pence P - Johan Santana Considering the panel of voters (Bill James, Joe Posnanski, John Dewan, Rob Neyer, Peter Gammons to name a few), and the defensive metrics they use to determine defensive performance, I'd put much more stock in what these guys say.

When a club is willing to eat 10 million on a contract for a player, doesn't that send up a red flag to the guys potential new team?

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Carlos Lee is not a candidate to be traded. Where are these reports even coming from. These are no brainier ones. Lee has said many times that he does not want to leave Houston. He has a no trade clause.

Lee has said many times that he does not want to leave Houston. He has a no trade clause. I like to believe there are two giant dartboards sitting in baseball writer's offices that gets made up each off-season. One with a bunch of known players on it and another with team names. When they need an idea to write about they throw the darts at the board and say those players will be traded/released/sign with whoever the second dart lands on. That's got to be the only explanation for the seemingly random rumors that come about.
