He was who Edge was referring to when he first uttered the words "Fat Failure Turtle"

This thread's title was what I was asking myself earlier.
As a massive Matt Hardy fan, I've been hoping and praying for Matt to be used right, (see: my sig). He's a well loved character, so why, why, why, why has WWE not used this to their advantage?! I guess the problem he has, (and as much as I do love him) is Jeff, in quite a few different ways. I want Matt to be used right, I know he has his flaws, but who doesn't. He gets a lot of flak for being "fat".. come on! If he's fat then Tommy Dreamer must be morbidly obese, heck, Matt's still fitter than a lot of people in the world. Final subrant. Whilst I like Khali and all, their thrown together tag team makes little sense in my eyes, and it doesn't do much for Matt. I almost exploded when I saw him thrown with Maria. Probably didn't help that I don't like Maria, really. Anyone else, I probably wouldn't have minded.
Come on WWE. See sense. Matt's so over, he should be main eventing. (Ok, maybe not, but you get what I'm saying, yeah? He should at least be higher up the midcard, getting better matches than against the Harts every week.) On a serious note, Matt on his own = better than.. Matt + Khali + Maria = No, just no.
Matt deserves better than this, and I really hope I will not be alone in saying that.

To the best of my knowledge, isn't Matt like the 27th kayfabe boyfriend that Maria's had since she started with the company? And they said Lita got around...

Because's he's Billy Gunn Version 2.0
A talented guy with a good look who is great in a tag team. But that's it. In a tag team he is great and always delivers, but as a singles wrestler he's just not good enough to keep the crowd interested.

Last week on Smackdown, his "Valentine" was Maria..on top of that he's still teaming with the second coming of Giant Gonzales. You all have to admit that he deserves better than what he's getting. Edge ascended to main Event status..why can't he? *He can't cut a promo with a pair of scissors *There are others with more pull that are ahead of him in the "pecking order" *His brother just went to work for the...well, opposition would mean they were a threat, which TNA isn't, but you get where I'm going with this

His feud with Edge was fantastic and one of my favourite feuds ever but, ultimately, Fat Hardy is a mid-carder for life. The best he can hope for is a transitional run (unlikely) or becoming a full-time JTTS like Kane (more likely).

He has mid-carder for life written allover him. He's not in Edge's league. The most I've ever been entertained by him was during the V1 era.

Yeah. He's not even a clean version of Jeff either, he just can't fly/move as fluidly like his brother, which is why he didn't get a huge push after Jeff left. There's also the teensy minor details that Jeff was busted for drug possession right after leaving, then showed up on TNA programming. Matt is lucky he's not wrestling in a pink tutu and glittery tiara. Didn't they plug his DVD nonstop...even AFTER he was busted for possession? I guess they thought that he'd beat it and they'd get the biggest cash cow next to Cena back. That window was Matt's best chance, when they were plugging Jeff's DVD. But when Jeff showed up on TNA, and now the best he can hope for is NXT and random appearances. He could be world.

For a while in '06/'07 he was having consistently good to great matches on Smackdown and he got huge pops as well. The crowd will definitely get behind him if he is pushed.

I think most people agree that he's at least somewhat being punished for Jeff's sins.
But even without that, someone above me said it best. Matt is this generation's Billy Gunn. He's "good" at a lot of things, but not "great" at anything. And for everything Matt has to offer, there's someone else on the roster who does it better.
It was the same thing with Billy Gunn. Billy was good in the ring. People like Bret and HBK were better. Billy was good on the mic. People like the Rock and Austin were better. Billy was good looking. The Rock was better looking. Billy was good in a tag team. Teams like the LOD were better. Billy was OK in hardcore matches. Foley was better. There was really nothing that billy could offer the fans that someone else wasn't doing a better job doing, so Billy was never really accepted, no matter how many times they tried to push him.
The same goes for Matt. What can Matt offer the fans that someone else higher up the card doesn't already offer, and offer better? And as long as that holds true, he will never be accepted as a main eventer, or even a serious upper-mid-card wrestler.

Their decision to turn him heel last year is what killed him. Matt was ridiculously over, constantly getting some of the biggest pops on the show. He was putting on really good matches in ECW. Then they turned him heel to the delight of none of his fans.
That's the thing, too. When most guys turn heel, they generate a new interest in booing them. In the case of Matt Hardy, his fanbase genuinely didn't want to boo him, but they had to because they liked Jeff better. Once that feud was over, Matt's heel turn was completely pointless.
And that brings us to last summer, where Matt just decided to be good to his brother again, and Jeff forgave Matt for running him off the road, jumping him in a hotel room, burning his house down, and killing his dog. It was one of the most ridiculous attempts at a retcon in wrestling history.
That brings us to Matt now. He's back to pandering to the audience and doing all the stuff he used to, but they crowd couldn't care much less. Matt fizzled out last year and hasn't done anything to get them re-invested again. Still wearing the tights from the heel turn isn't helping. I know it sounds petty, but he should go back to the pants. That's the Matt Hardy that was over.

I wouldn't call Matt fat but he does have a weird loose skin thing going on around his gut. I have always felt Matt Hardy was just like his brother, not worth watching at all.

He hasn't been the same since he came back from the appendix injury This is true, BUT he got the surgery like 6+ months ago and has only dopped alittle weight. He's clearly coasting because he knows he's not a main event guy and will never get that push.

Because he butchered his return promo in 2005, basically ending any chances of becoming a main-eventer? He's just never been someone I've seen as a main-eventer. Nothing to do with that anymore. He was well on his way when he got into the US title hunt with MVP. He was having weekly good matches. Then he feud with Jeff which was going to have more but Matt had the surgery. When Matt cameback he cameback fat and still not in the shape he was. That and his brother trouble with the law. WWE had an open door for whenever he wanted to return to wrestling. He himself slams the door on that buy signing with the second big company in the US TNA. He will be there more after the court stuff happens.
