I actually have a little faith in his opportunities right now.
1) They are now using his theme song instead of Khali's. It is a little thing, but still.
2) Matt is going to be on NXT, which should actually be a good thing for him. Matt, like Miz, was probably picked because not only is he over but he has a fair amount of experience doing reality shows. Hopefully they let him have plenty of input in his presentation, since he usually comes up with better stuff for himself promo-wise than WWE creative does. It isn't that he is horrible with the mic, but he is not that great at the typical WWE promo. If he does well here, he might get more input in his mic work on the main shows.
3) Maria may be pretty and all, but she really never outshines the guys she is paired with. Matt's big draw is that he is an everyman made good. He is the kind of guy that people actually want to get the girl. His initial pairing with Lita worked for that very reason. His pairing with Maria could help him out. If nothing else, her time spent on outside ventures can gain her a little of mainstream coverage, and depending on whether they want to try to blur the lines they might have him paired with him outside of the WWE for her stuff.
4) He has finally been cleared to actually go back to working out, which he has not been able to do for some time. I think that while his matches are still good, they have not as good as they have been in the past because he has added a little weight because he could not exercise. Considering his history of knee problems, that is not the best thing as you might imagine. If he could get back to the shape that he was in back in 2005/2006, that could do wonders for both his image and his ringwork. Seriously, compare him today to just a few years ago prior to the hernia.

To the best of my knowledge, isn't Matt like the 27th kayfabe boyfriend that Maria's had since she started with the company? And they said Lita got around... Wonder how long till he starts calling her Lita...and creeps her out..

Last week on Smackdown, his "Valentine" was Maria..on top of that he's still teaming with the second coming of Giant Gonzales. You all have to admit that he deserves better than what he's getting. Edge ascended to main Event status..why can't he? Because he has the charisma of a brick and will continue to be the Marty Jannetty to Jeff's Shawn Michaels.

Didn't they plug his DVD nonstop...even AFTER he was busted for possession? I guess they thought that he'd beat it and they'd get the biggest cash cow next to Cena back. That window was Matt's best chance, when they were plugging Jeff's DVD. But when Jeff showed up on TNA, and now the best he can hope for is NXT and random appearances. He could be world. Exactly what I see too. Basically, Jeff kinda screwed Matt with that one. [Vince] MATT SCREWED MATT! MWHAHAHAHA! [/Vince] In all seriousness, he is just not going to cut it as a world champ.

I don't get the "Matt's doesn't have any charisma" or "the fans are apathetic towards Matt" comments. I was at the Smackdown the week before the Rumble, and when Matt came out for his SUperstars match against DH Smith, he got one of the top-5 pops of the night (the first 4 being DX, Rey & Taker, which is good company to be in as far as crowd reaction goes IMO).
To me, Matt's a midcard Mick Foley or Tommy Dreamer, in that no matter how much he loses, he always maintains a high level in being over. You can say its because of Jeff, but over is over. Personally, I wouldn;t mind seeing Matt getting a main event run, but he's a successful midcarder. Since when is being one of WWE's most successful midcarders in recent memory a bad thing?

he's lost alot of momentum. after the MVP feud he was one of the most over people outside of the main event. his ECW run proved that he is capable of carrying a show (albeit a minor one), and i think WWE hoped that his heel turn would catapult him to the main event. they didn't bank on him sucking as a heel, which he unfortunately did, so they had to turn him face again, by which time he'd lost alot of fan trust, and didn't have the same "feel good babyface" appeal that he used to.
admittedly his injury did slow him down a bit, and his promos aren't the best (i don't think they're THAT bad, i think they sound worse than they actually are because of his ridiculous voice to be honest), but a heel turn, followed by an immediate change of heart tainted him, in my opinion.

Slightly unrelated but I don't think those new tights are doing him any favours. What's with the obsession with keys?

Slightly unrelated but I don't think those new tights are doing him any favours. What's with the obsession with keys? It's not unrelated at all. Those new tights are hideous and the blue ones really do make him look fat. He also has weird looking legs because of the knee injuries and those blue tights don't hide it at all. A part of someone's appeal is his look and Matt's balding head, chubby belly and o-legs make it harder to take him serious. He should hide it a lot more with a new haircut and going back to the old pants.

Hardy should switch to attire resembling Bret Harts. He's like Bret in a lot of ways, being the less charismatic, dark haired older brother with a less high flying style than his sibling, who manages to be over despite being used to elevate others, plus it'd cover his belly some until he gets back into shape.

I was sure he was gonna be a world champion one day with the V1 gimmick...and I've always respected the man...Running OMEGA at a young age, having a wonderful wrestling mind and having a genuine passion for the sport....Matt has been consistently over with the crowds but I think unless a drastic gimmick change takes place that his flame has burned out...

IMO V1 was Harveys' ticket to the promised land. Not that he'll never get there now, but he'll never get there now. Fate has conspired against him.

I like Matt, but there are three things that work against him: 1. He always was the "grounded" Hardy. Why do you think Jeff was the one getting the push, even all the way back in 2000? I think the WWE looked at the two and made a comparison: would fans go after the levelheaded brother who brought some technical work, or the crazy high-flyer brother? 2. 2005. He came back after the fans wanted him to come back... and was buried in short order by Edge. This made Edge a main-eventer, but I think that was Matt's only shot to become a main-eventer and made him a permanent member of Midcard Purgatory, which is why I was happy to see him go after Jeff (but they really botched it afterwords). 3. Back to #1... this... And as long as he's over at TNA, Matt will be presented as less over than his partner of the Purple Pants Team. Because he pretty much burned a bridge, the other Hardy had to pay. It's common practice in wrestling to punish a relative of a high-impact person who leaves the company.

Who said he had to be world champ? Seriously, if he were utilized as an underdog contender to a world title and given a couple of PPV title shots it would be pretty nice anyways. Do you negatively judge Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, and Ted DiBiase because they never won the big one? If Jake Roberts hadn't become a punchline, do you think that people would think little of him because he never won a title in the WWE? The thought is that Matt could be used higher up the card than he currently is. Would his career be a joke if that never happens? No, but it would be nice for them to try those shoes on before rejecting them.

He's fat, can't talk on the mic, hasn't evolved in the ring in years, etc. not only that but throw in balding with the same frizz perm haircut, and the one thing he did change, his tights, are abysmal. he looks like some cookie dough that exploded out of the tube with some pubes glued on top. Jeff definately received the better genetics of the two.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJL27oUb1gYWhile the whole thing is a little wonky, the line he says after 7:20 ruined Matt for me. It was just....... so over the line and out of place.

Because he has the charisma of a brick and will continue to be the Marty Jannetty to Jeff's Shawn Michaels. Terrible comparison. Shawn didn't blow all of his chances like Jeff. The Rockers comparison is really just lazy.

Also a bad comparison. Owen wasn't really a promo king, and in fact Bret was probably the better of the two in that area. Bret also wasn't used to elevate others much, only Shawn and Yokozuna really. He tended to beat everyone else cleanly. That and the fact that Matt's not a technical wrestler, he's just a better wrestler than Jeff. Finally, CHARISMA AND MIC SKILLS ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Someone can be charismatic without being Ric Flair on the mic.

Matt ruled it during his V1 days...then AGAIN from '07 till unnecessary heel turn '09.
Wrestling-wise, I don't think he's deteriorated that much but looks wise...YIKES! Lose the gut and do something about the hair. It's going away, accept it Matt. Right now he just doesn't LOOK as awesome as he was.
