Compared to I and II is III really that much better, honestly? It's touted as being a million times better and maybe one of the best of the bunch, but is it? I sat down yesterday to watch them all in a row back to back just to make this clear in my head. Episode III was just as terrible to me as the other 2. The same inane dialogue, the same lifeless characters, the same wooden acting, the same hollow plot, just the same bunch of crap that the other 2 are accused of having, it's all there. God, it even had the worst ending of the bunch IMO. Anyway, just wondering what it is that's makes this stand out in some way as opposed to the other 2 abominations.

I've said before and I'll say it again. If you hated the first two prequels, then you have absolutely no reason to like this one. It has all of the same problems.

I think it's much better. The "Order 66" scene is one of the best Star Wars scenes ever. Even knowing Obi-Wan defeats Anakin, it didn't stop the battle being epic.

I thought it was better than the first 2, but not by much.
The dialogue was terrible and there were no excuses for the plotholes with this one.
The action was done well though and I liked the stuff with Yoda and Palpatine.

Episode III is the best of the prequel bunch. If you can get through the AWFUL dialogue in the beginning (To quote Calculon, it was so bad that it gave me a disease) but if you can handle that, then it's worth the time, just for Order 66 and the ending action sequences.

It's at least better than II. I's only real problem was too much Jar Jar.

It is better than the first two, but it is not great like episode 4 and 5. It is on the same level and episode 6 where that was good, but not great. The action scenes are better, the plot is easier to get, and the acting is better. Now hear me out about the acting; Ian McDiarmid was truly the star of this film since he got a bigger role. In my opinion, he did the best acting in the the prequels as a whole. Since he a big role in ROTH, it made the movie better. Also whether you choose to admit it or not, Hayden Christensen improved with his acting from the second movie.

I'd say it's the third best in the series, after V and IV. The first 20 minutes are good, then the next half-hour or so is a bit boring up until when Mace Windu goes to arrest Palpatine, then after that I loved it. Order 66 was awesome, the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader was awesome and the last shot of Owen and Beru holding Luke on the hill is awesome. I thought Ewan McGregor did a great job. Yeah Hayden Christianson was terrible but so was Mark Hamil, like father like son.

None of the prequels hold a candle to any of the original trilogy. However, the seduction scene at the opera in Episode III, where Palpatine tells Anakin the story of Darth Plageus is, to me, one of the best scenes of the entire saga, I-VI. And Obi Wan is at his best in III.

I'd put it WAY above II, and just above I, and honestly, I tie it with VI, which never impressed me that much once they left Jabba's palace.

There are good parts (Grievous rules, Anakin and Obi-Wan face off) but in general, the movie is SO rushed to just turn Anakin bad. And of course we get this great logical exchange (in a nutshell):
"Rememeber when I said I could save your wife from dying? Well, I kinda fibbed there." "kay" "BUT maybe we can find out how to do that one day! Eh? Eh?" "sure" "Now go out and commit genocide" "gotcha"
Even after the movie ended, I felt like I'd been duped. "......that was it??! that's how he turns into 'Badass' Darth Vader?" Cannot wait til Red Letter Media has their way with this one.

It's quite a bit better yes. Still not GREAT, but it's not as bad as the other two.

He goes from poncy, whiny, conflicted lad to willing killer of children in seconds.

I was bit above the other two prequels, but I still can't see how this outclasses Jedi. ROTJ, even with its flaws still has a kick ass final fight at the battle of Endor, and the last 20 minutes is just awesome stuff and a great conclusion to the series as a whole.

I prefer the Attack of the Clones. The thing about Revenge of the Sith, IMO, is that the things it gets lauded for are the type of things that unquestionable should be good about a Star Wars film. Of course the light saber fights are great, of course Anakin donning the suit gives the audience chills, of course the intrigue with the Emperor was well done.... that's what I expect out of the film. It didn't wow me, didn't make me go "Damn! That's amazing!" It went through the motions and created a pretty good Star Wars movie but it didn't live up to the hype.

My only complaint about Episode III is all the dialogue between Padme and Anakin. The acting is bad enough but damn at least give them something to work with.

It was probably on par with the other two; good movies that don't live up to the originals.
For all the crap Lucas gets, and a lot of it is deserved, for his film-making style, the scene of Anakin and the kids in the Jedi Temple ("Master Skywalker, what's going.." *lightsaber turns on*) was the definition of how not showing something can make it so much worse than actually depicting it on screen.

That's very true, Portman is usually at least decent in anything she's in, but damned if the dialogue in the three prequels didn't make her look terrible.

Seriously, if the three prequels were the only things I'd seen Portman in, I'd be convinced she was a horrible actress.

At least something actually HAPPENS in EP 3, unlike the other 2.
And just the fact that Jar Jar is reduced to cameos makes it the best of the series.
And this is my 2nd favorite Rifftrax.
