Yeah, I went where everyone doesn't dare to go. I don't think John Cena deserves his current spot. I think that the whole thing is a big work on us, that WWE shove his work ethic and "passion" for the business down our throats because we voiced our opinion about how bad he was in the ring years ago. They're basically trying to change adults' minds by saying "Hey, this guy is a good guy, does alot for charity and has an insane work-ethic!". Well, guess what? I don't care.
He can give all the money to charity he wants, he can spend as much time in the gym as he wants. The fact of the matter is... John Cena is THE single most stale character in the WWE right now. And the bad outshines the good by far. John Cena may be a hard worker behind the scenes but maybe he should take some of that time out of his busy schedule to learn some new moves and include them in his ever boring moveset routine that he proudly busts out every monday. WWE is up his ass because they NEED their next "guy". They can't go on without somebody to kiss ass... Austin left, Hogan left, The Rock left, they needed that guy and they've been licking his ass non-stop.
Everywhere, even on Smackdown, you can't get rid of him. All I hear is "John Cena, John Cena, John Cena". I hope he pulls a Randy Savage and they never speak of him again, quite honestly. I've never been so sick and tired of a character in my entire life. I wouldn't mind if he was something incredibly special, but he's not. Cena wasn't even the top merchandise seller until Jeff Hardy left. And before anybody rubs it in, Cena has more merchandise than just about anybody on the roster. They obviously put the most work into his t-shirts considering everybody elses (The Miz, Sheamus) are extremely bland.
My main problem is, everytime WWE is going really good. Like for instance Chris Jericho's world title run in 2008, he comes back and spoils it. He inserts his boring ass into the feud and completely turns it stale again. Sheamus' title reign was just kicking off and they just HAD to have Cena come in and ruin it. Sometimes, I don't see the point in watching this or hoping that somehow, the program will change. Because it won't, sure it might change for a few weeks or so, but fear no more, because Cena is here to save the day! Why? Because he has a good work ethic!
Please. Cena is easily replaceable, and anybody they shove down our throats like him, will eventually connect with the 6 year olds. I think it's time he steps down and gives guys like MVP and Jack Swagger a shot. Take a little break or something, I don't know. Everytime somebody like MVP or Kofi Kingston get Cena-like pops, WWE de-pushes him. I think they flat-out NEED to have this guy on top and can't and won't build anybody up to take it. They're afraid to do it, basically. The guy is the absolute cancer to Raw right now. He doesn't need any world titles, because if he was that over in the first place, he wouldn't need his stupid little spinning belt around his waist to get cheers. He's no Rock, Austin or Hogan. He's on top during an abortion of a period, and it's pretty much terrible because of that fact. The minute he gets off the top, Raw instantly comes better. I don't think that's any coincidence.

John Cena became 'the guy' due to the fallout of the Attitude Era. They pretty much had nobody to fall back on after Rock and Austin left. Sure-- they're still giving HHH and Randy Orton main event matches, but as far as a person who brings the industry past its own limitations (as Austin, Rock and Hogan did), they really had no better choice than John Cena.
My problem is that during their conversion to PG WWE, they took away the only thing about Cena that I actually liked-- his edgy freestyling gimmick. As a result he doesn't even compare to larger-than-the-WWE Superstars that came before him. Shoving bland milktoast down my throat and telling me that it's on the same level as fillet mignon is an insult to my intelligence, and nothing less.
So saying, I appreciated the Stunner tease Austin gave us last RAW more than I probably should've. ;D

If it was Kennedy or MVP in that spot, you wouldn't be complaining.

If it was Kennedy or MVP in that spot, you wouldn't be complaining. I honestly believe that Cena is the right guy for the company right now. He certainly seems to be someone with less horror stories backstage than most of the IWC's more beloved individuals.

Sure he does, he took what could have been a really stupid gimmick and got it over huge and the fans react to whatever he does. I can accept that you don't like him and think he's boring but I don't think you can say he doesn't deserve the spot.

He ran with the gimmick tweak, kids adored the guy, hell hes over with majority of the audience I feel (I really only consider the IWC as a small part of the WWE universe ) and for the most part, has stayed healthy. With the amount of revenue he generates, how has he not earned his spot? I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but hes been booked pretty well lately. Hes slowly being made to look beatable and I swear there is a slow change going on in WWE's booking. Based on the success of NXT, WWE may realize the jump those young guys could give RAW and Smackdown. Thats why NXT is so brilliant, it gives exposure to 8 new guys all at once rather than build up a debut that could backfire. They see who the crowd gets behind, with all these guys given a good amount of time to get over, and find their next big thing. There is no doubt that there is a dry spell in WWE right now, its the same guys main eventing (Jericho and Edge normally don't catch much flak because they are board favorites) but there is a youth movement coming. Cena is going to have new opponents and I feel its gonna be much more balanced if the WWE knows they have guys that can also carry a show. Also for the record, I have a feeling the Batista/Cena match is gonna be great. Those two have great chemistry and know when to turn it on.

He's over with the target audience, works for the company, doesn't give anyone in power a worry over any addicions/personal problems, is a competent safe worker who pulls out some corking matches on PPV and still gains a reaction. He's a cookie cutter babyface who sells a ton of merchandise, he's perfect for the WWE right now.
I do dislike the character as he has none right now (after so many gimmick tweaks that happens I suppose), but he's earned his spot by being reliable for 5+ years and always puts the company first.

I understand that most people are sick of Cena this and sick of Cena that. It makes sense. He's been doing the same schitck for years. I won't argue against that because it's just easier to agree to disagree. I personally feel otherwise but that's an argument for a different thread.
However, I think you're dead wrong in my opinion when you say Cena doesn't deserve his spot. Like others have mentioned, t was Cena and Cena alone who was given a silly gimmick at best and made it extremely popular. Cena connected with the fans because he was damn good at living his gimmick. Over the years, his hard work paid off and he was given the ball. Sure, he wasn't the world's greatest wrestler but he certainly ran with that ball. Flash forward a couple of years. John Cena is now synonymous with the WWE. He's made sure to give some sort of performance every time he's been in a match. And of course, he always elicits an intense emotion from the crowd, whether its love or hate.
I think Cena certainly deserves his spot. I don't follow any of the backstage stuff, but based on what I read in here it seems as though there's very very little bad about Cena's reputation. So that leads me to believe that the reason why he's always in high profile matches is hard work, if no other reason.

Kids and Woman love Cena and he's never had a quiet match
You can hate Cena as much as you want and say he's been carried his whole career but for the career the dude's had so far the guys who carried him so far must be world caliber
You can push whoever you want and they'll stick if it's hard enough? Someone should go let Kozlov and Lashley know cause their both FAR better wrestlers IMO than Cena yet usually get buried by whatever reaction he's getting and their own big pushes didn't turn out so well
Besides if pushing anyone hard gets them over than nobody deserves anything cause it's got nothing to do with whoever's getting the push it all comes down to the guy who decides it

They gave him the ball when everyone else left and he f***ing ran with it. He's gotten over with the people who matter to Vince (kids), and is basically the only guy who could pull of the modern day version of Hulk Hogan hopefully without the steroids or blading like crazy into his 60s.
Can you name anyone else at that at that time that could have been THAT guy? Batistia and Orton were/are good, but they're nowhere near able to be that guy for WWE.

I don't know or care what he deserves, I just know I can't stand him. I watched WWF/WWE programming for 25 years. I put up with Gobbeldy Gookers, and Red Roosters. I put up with Mae Young giving birth to a hand. I put up with King Mabel as a main eventer. Long and short is, i put up with some awful crap for a quarter century, and still I stuck by the WWE. But John Cena managed to single handedly make me hate their product. His stale, tired superface act made me feel as if I had finally outgrown pro wrestling. I hated his push, his matches, and god his mic work! I literally got douche chills everytime the guy spoke. He ruined it for me and I havent watched WWE in over 3 years specifically because of John Cena. So regardless of whether his spot is deserved, i wish the guy would go away.

Cena half-asses his "performances" these days. Ever since he the Royal Rumble 2008 infact. He gets beat down and does the whole super man thing, it also looks like he's afraid to bump too and that's not just me who says that. RVD, Anderson and Sabu also said it. And it's pretty noticable.
And that's a ridiculous thing to say. I like MVP, so why would I be complaining if he was in Cena's spot? It's like saying "I bet you wouldn't be complaining if MVP was main eventing Wrestlemania!". Well yeah...

if you say so.
onthe other side of the argument, this is coming from someone with Mr. “Anderson” and the word “best” in the same sig.
EDIT: I'm just saying, its opinion. If your bank account was expanding because of Cena these complaints would cease to exist.

And speaking as someone who has been disinterested in Batista for his whole career, I can comfortably say that he has been A WRESTLING GOD for like the past month, at least.
