when's the last time he took a clean loss that wasn't related to him being suspended for wellness violation? Batista? Or was that because of Wellness too? I forgot. Either way, Batista needed the rub to give his newly formed heel persona some momentum, going into a title program with Cena.

I liked Rey in WCW.
I was excited when he came into WWE.
But honestly ever since Eddie died and the Eddiesploitation occured I can't stand Rey. He could've said no to all that crap but he didn't. That made me lose respect for him the person.
My respect for him the wrestler/performer went away as the injuries build up and the workrate went down. He is a shell of his former self. I understand he's broken down and older, but he needs to realize that too.
It's time for him to retire and go back to Mexico where he will be treated like royalty.

With the exception of a few years where they decided dick jokes, beer, beating up women and cursing was the answer, WWF/E usually pandered to kids. We just didn't care as much when we were kids. That's their geneal M.O.

Without Rey Mysterio breaking down the wall for smaller wrestlers in marketability and main event acceptance, most light heavyweights would be stuck being jobber fodder. WWE finally make Rey a credible threat, now folks are saying its not realistic. So a guy 5'3 cannot in real life beat someone taller. Really?

I've hated him since his title reign that he wouldn't have had if Eddie was still alive.

It's the same thing as X-Pac: his character hasn't changed in the 8 years since coming to WWE. Every promo and every feud is based on, "I may be small, but I have the biggest heart." I don't mind him beating bigger guys, in fact I prefer smaller wrestlers who can move over lumbering trees any day. But with Rey, injuries have slowed him down to where he just isn't the wrestler he used to be. I'd rather Christian had gotten that spot in the Fatal 4-way instead, as Rey has been to the top, and likely won't be there again. It's not hate against Rey personally, I just wish they either freshen him up, or bring in another luchador to connect with the Latino fanbase (still have no idea why they let Espiral go) while they phase Rey out.

Interesting, interesting. A follow-up question, and a follow-up point:
-I get that his WHC run, being horribly booked and coming on the heels of Eddie's passing, is a huge sticking point. But why is that Rey's fault? For that matter, why is his booking as an "underdog" his fault? He's not making those decisions, yet he's taking the heat as though he walks in every Tuesday and says "Ok, Steph, here's the plan for tonight's show. I'm going to win again. Booyaka." That's actually an overarching point, I suppose. The question would then become do you hate the performer themself or the booking of said performer.
-In stating his previous accomplishments, I was noticing that you'll get people bringing up the pasts of other hated figures, ie "I hate Cena, but he was awesome as a heel/at One Night Stand/etc", "Hogan is the worst politician ever and only looks out for himself, but wrestling wouldn't be here without him", etc...but I've really never seen anyone makes those qualifications for Rey. I wasn't saying you SHOULD necessarily; it was more just a quirk I noticed.

Second no one said "Rey beating someone taller isn't realistic." The point about the size thing is Rey easily beating up people like Kane who is not only taller but weighs about 200 pounds more than him. Did you totally miss the whole Kane and Rey angle? That was believeable to you?

The Rey/Kane angle was bad not because of the size difference, but because the logic of the storyline made my head hurt. I'd have Evan Bourne beating Mark Henry during the last days of ECW if it were up to me. Again, the problem is not that Rey is small; it's that he's stale and past his prime.
Hell, bring back Essa Rios provided he's still healthy and in shape.
And RE: a Rey/Hogan politics comparison, didn't Rey refuse to drop the IC belt to Dolph Ziggler? So he's not exactly a saint when it comes to doing the job either.

Yeah Essa is only 31 and is still active in Mexico. I'd love to see him back.

I liked him as IC Champ. He shouldn't be higher than that. Who gives a shit if he is over with some people? Jericho was mega over in 2000 and was usually an IC contender that year save for the few times he jobbed to HHH. They give away main event spots like it's party favors now.

That was believeable to you? Yes he got his main event push because of Eddy. The other option was Chavo. Guess who WWE would pick? The nephew of Eddy or the best friend who was over with the crowd? Read some of the posts on Rey around the board and you will see some the complaints about his size. Did you see the time he went against the Big Show who squashed him literally? Or the feud with JBL after he won the world title where he was beating by every big man on the roster? And this is wrestling we are talking about. Anything can happen. If you want realism, watch MMA.

That was believeable to you? No. But neither was 'Taker/Kane. Or Austin/McMahon. Or WCW/nWo. I learned to check believability at the door when it comes to wrestling a long time ago. And ultimately, people dislike Rey because they prefer NWA over WWF.

I wonder if the same peole who dislike Rey because of his size and defeating bigger wrestlers will complain the sameway when Bourne's push gets going strong.

so, basically, don't give him any matches at all.. or any opportunities.. Just because he's small doesn't mean he can't participate. The Big Show does the same things, because he's a big man, and that's what works for him.. He can't fly about the ring like Rey can.
