Dolph is not better than Rey. It's been two years and he doesn't even have a moveset.
If you don't like Rey's push that's one thing but don't DESTROY the dude, next thing we know people'll be saying Rey was one of the guys behind Katie Vick.

I'm fine with a guy his size getting wins over the big guys, never really been an issue to me. I just think his time has passed and he's not much fun to watch anymore.

Ziggler has just as much of a moveset as any WWE main-eventer. He's got the Sleeper, Zig-Zag, leapfrog rocker-dropper, Mr. Perfect neck snap, Randy Savage rope snap, multiple elbow drops, a solid dropkick, and a really nice powerslam. Also, Ziggler in his current state IS better than Rey Mysterio in his. We're not talking overall, but at this moment in time. Ziggler can outperform Rey Mysterio in 2010.

Even if I agreed that Dolph was a better in-ring performer (which I don't; I hardly think it's accidental that the best matches of his career have been against Mysterio, who can make anyone look fantastic), that certainly doesn't mean Dolph could become as over as or sell as much merchandise as Rey, even if he got a big push. And frankly, aside from the Eddiesploitation period (which did more harm than good to Mysterio's career, and I don't think he really managed to get his heat back until '09), Rey really hasn't been pushed all that much by WWE. The best he's booked to do these days is to go over other upper-midcarders. He's as over as he is because he got himself over by being that damn good at connecting with the a certain segment of the audience (and the fact that that segment is children doesn't make them any less deserving of having the product targeted to them than the smarks).

We do not have to like Rey simply because he is over with part of the audience. The issues with his current performance (he has gashed a hell of a lot more people than Dolph) remain.

Because frankly, I don't see why me being a fan of his before should have to qualify every statement I make about him now. His act is done with me. He's this tiny dude beating every last f***ing person they put in front of him. He beat Swagger on SD and I just rolled my eyes and skipped ahead. He's like John Cena, only TINY. I can't buy him beating some of these people. When he's booked against Jericho, or someone like that who he can realistically perform against, I dig it. But when he was beating Kane, now Swagger, all those times I can't buy that. I couldn't buy it in WCW. Couple that with him being an awful promo, and him getting a push I have trouble accepting for someone as huge as John Cena, I can never like him or get behind him. He gets on my nerves far too much. Pretty much this for me. "I had surgery NINE times on my left KNEE..." in that squeaky, high pitched dwarf voice of his on the DON'T TRY THIS videos grates on me too. I just can't stand his routine and I can't stand HIM. They play him off as this gigantic underdog but....BUT....the guy has a better winning percentage than most EVERYONE on the f*****g roster. You can't have it both ways!

I think the Rey Mysterio hate is just some stupid IWC bandwagon thing. No one even pays attention to how good he is still in the ring. The biggest complaints I hear is that he isn't as good as he was in WCW, he beats guys way bigger than him, and he is too much of a hero for the kids.
I think all of those excuses to not like him are crap. First off sure he may have slowed down since his WCW days but he is still very fun to watch. Especially since he started bouncing off the middle rope which makes his moves look way better because he always had trouble bouncing off all the ropes because of how short he is.
Who cares if he beats big guys. Hell Shawn Michaels made a career out of it why can't Rey Mysterio? Because he is a luchador and really short? That's bullcrap. Even in the UFC back in the 90s we saw big guys get their asses handed to them by smaller guys. Royce Gracie anyone?
And I have no problem with him being looked up to by kids. The guy is small. Kids can relate to that. When I was a kid watching him in the late 90s I remember really liking him for the same reason. Today I respect how he wrestles because he has slown down but not too much to where it makes a difference.

I remember the moment I turned on him for good. It was during the dominic storyline He did a promo with Eddie where he said you've beaten your past youve beaten the streets but you havent beaten REY MYSTERIO!!!!!!!!!
I also remember a three way promo for WM22 on SD with Orton/Angle/rey and Angle pretty much defended and spoke for mysterio the entire time.
Found it:
And the fact that I cant stand his goofy smile.

For everyone claiming the IWC only hates him now because of the CM Punk feud - where were you during the exploitation of Eddie Guerrero? People have been hating on Rey for over four years now. Yeah, it's longer than just the Punk feud. Why do people seem to forget the Dolph depush? Because Rey was right in that case. Rebuilding the IC title's credibility is more important then pushing a semi-decent midcarder.

I can only speak for myself, but here's the issue. I've always hated WWE's "if they're small, they can never ever ever beat a big man, and they suck because they're shorties har har" mentality. By that standard, I should love Rey Mysterio.
Yet, I don't.
I don't beause they've gone from "he's small he can never ever win" to "he's small, but he always wins" while still playing it up that he's this srappy underdog who has everything going against him. It actually requires me to suspend disbelief twice, first that the fights actually matter, and second that this guy who I've seen beat everyone on the roster repeatedly somehow still is the underdog.
Top it off is the recent busting everyone open streak he's got going. I know he needs the braces, and I know that they help him stay as pain free as possible, and I support it, but knowing that he's got to have them, maybe do something different to during matche instead of always aiming those metal knee braces at people's heads. Yeah, it's a worked match, but even if you get your hands up, that's still 150 pounds swinging at you with metal poles leading the way.
So, the combination of his moveset and his braces make him dangerous, and I have to force myself to suspend disbelief twice as much for Rey as I do everyone else. It's not hate, as I have genuinely enjoyed him for nearly 20 years now, but there's a lot of room between "job to everyone" and "beat everybody clean, every single time". Find that middle ground, and I'll be happy.

He should have a tag run with someone like Evan Bourne or turn Chavo face and tag them.

This isn't some new phenomenon that people find fun to do like hating Cena back in 2005/06, people have legit gripes with the guy for much longer time. People that didn't hate him back then when Eddiesploitation began are starting to hate him because, simply put, they don't see any depth in him as a character, as a PERSONALITY, whereas despite Cena being a goody goody for more than six years, in fairness he did have a completely different personality back in the early days, and has spent a few years evolving into this hybrid 'controversial' figure. But Rey is practically the same guy as he was in 2002, and hasn't changed all that much. It just boils to a point where Rey wins feuds, gains no character development, no personality change...the excuses that you consider 'crap' are actually quite reasonable arguments that have been applied to other wrestlers over the years. They're nothing new.

I will acknowledge that he used to be great. But after so many years of "overcoming the odds" and "Eddie-sploitation" and more recently injuring guys, I guess it's just easier to pick out the flaws. He was great, but so was Ric Flair, and I don't want him around anymore either.

I don't see the injury argument. He cut open Punk once which seems to have been a bit bad but hasn't affect his own work and Punk himself cut people open with the GTS on occassion. And the Undertaker incident is largely an isolated incident that was from a botched Senton Bomb more than the 619 from what I've heard. It's put Undertaker on the shelf for a few months but nothing more than that. The injury prone argument just seems to come from pointing out that these happened in the space of less than two weeks more than anything. Rey is still a very talented wrestler that connects with the WWE's audience really well. If you'v got a problem with his booking, shouldn't the bookers get their blame in that as opposed to the wrestler?
