Here's my thoughts on what I think this is all about: Randy Orton is probably not going to make it to this PPV, so they need a replacement. They want to make a star out of Wade Barrett, and per stipulations of winning NXT S1 he has a PPV title shot, but it's still a HUGE hot shot to put him in a PPV main event at this stage, even if it's a 4-way, particularly when Cena beat him clean in 5 minutes a few weeks ago (a reminder about lack of long term planning hurting angles like this). So they needed to do the most shocking angle possible on Raw to get him over as a threat, with the idea being that Barrett is not on his own. He's got his own well coordinated stable who are pissed off for the way they've been treated by WWE and their top stars, and so are willing to do his bidding to help him win the title in the hope that they will be treated as stars in wrestling too. I'm not sure they've thought that much far ahead about where they go from there other than Barrett will be confirmed to be in the 4 way next week, and they'll push the idea of how much John Cena's title reign is now in peril after the beating he took. But I would urge them to look at the reaction to the angle on Raw and strike while the iron is hot. There's been too many times in recent years where they've been on to something, and completely missed out either on creating new stars and/or making lots of money. Oh and if they really wanted to make this group like the nWo they could have Barrett win the title and rip the WWE spinner thing off the belt, replacing it with their logo (ala the spray painted Big Gold Belt), and when Randy Orton or Undertaker returns they could play the role of Sting who is the only person who can save WWE. Though other options would be Triple H or Shawn Michaels. I like the idea of Orton thought because of his character - he may be a babyface at the moment, but he's still only really out for himself, yet now he's called upon to fight for a cause greater than himself - to rescue the company that made him a star that is now in peril. All that last stuff is highly unlikely though! I like it. Thanks, and Lance Storm thinks the same as me about the bit that would be most likely to happen: www.stormwrestling.com/060810.html

Oh my goodness... this forum is STILL blown up, talking about this as if it's the SINGLE angle that's going to revolutionize the entire wrestling business?
I'm sorry that I don't share your collective optimism, but safe money says that a lot of you start crying over the angle not going the way you're idealizing it at the moment.

been away from home a few days so missed raw at the time, but based on what people were saying on facebook i decided to watch youtube the show (minus spoilers) just now.
i just did a sticky wee. that was incredible.
this is probably just me getting caught up in the hype really, but i can't wait for smackdown now. it's ballsy booking to have a group of people who haven't really been made to look that good over the past few months destroy the biggest star in the company, but it worked.
and i must say, the execution was the real beauty of this segment. little things like attacking justin roberts, serena's hysterical acting, punk sticking up for cena, pushing the table onto king, the frantic bell ringing; this came across far more dramatic than anything in wrestling in a while.
i'm interested, which i haven't really been in WWE for a few months, i can't wait to see where this goes.

IAmJericho Found it interesting that not 1 person came to help Cena during his NXT beatdown. I sat backstage smiling and watched the whole thing.

Tarver looked so badass when the camera went to him in the crowd.
Best thing I've seen in a LONG time.

I've only just watched this tonight as I've not been at home all week. IT WAS AWESOME. Everything about it. It did make me feel a bit sorry for Cena, which was obviously one of the desired effects. I can honestly say I've never seen him so brutalised Special mention has to go to the adult female mark in the crowd near the end. She was shown twice stood with her hand over her mouth, looking like you would if you'd just been told your parents have been run over by an 18 wheeler. Excellent.
