The Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero's franchises are long gone to me anyway, so I don't really care but I wanted to play the True Crime game.

Truthfully I can't remember the last time I bought a Tony Hawk game... it was probably underground 2... which was what... 6 years ago?

I honestly am surprised Tony Hawk lasted as long as it did. Even I stopped buying the games, and I was a gigantic mark for them when I was younger.

When they came up with it for Ride, they took a gamble, and I don't think it's paid off. Now though. they've got to continue using it which is why Shred sold what, 12 copies.

Thinking about it, the last TH game I bought was American Wasteland. My favorite was T.H.U.G. though, I absolutely loved the storyline involved with that game. That's the only TH game that I go back to over and over again. Although I'll admit that THPS2 had some awesome bonus videos. Spiderman skating? f*** yeah!

Excellent decision by Activision, I'd say. Hopefully this will bring about some new IPs for the company.

I bought the two after American Wasteland (Project 8 and Proving Ground) but hardly played them. American Wasteland was the last one I actually played fully through. My personal favorite was THUG2... I play through story mode at least once a year.

I really don't mind Activision, then again I don't really get involved in their business too often and only dabble in every other edition of their games. But, for what it's worth they put out decent games that are more usual than not wildly successful. They must be doing something right and I doubt they can get by with releases from a single franchise.

I...just don't get the CoD players in my area. The guys simply WON'T play anything else, or give games that are universally praised a chance in hell. I mean you try and tell them about Dead Space or Resident Evil or even Little Big Planet and the s*** all over it, but they'll plunk down $60 or more on the latest installment of CoD, despite it being largely the same EXACT game they were playing a year ago, and could have easily been a DLC pack.
/Rant over. I'll just say that I miss the days when gaming meant inviting your friends over to play Street Fighter with you. ;D

They actually knew how to make a fun chart when it came to the songs! Yes. Overcharted songs that don't bear any resemblance whatsoever to the actual track = FUN! As for Activision, now they only need to axe Call of Duty and everything will be right with the gaming world again. Well, maybe not everything, but it would be a start.

Can't say that I'm surprised with Guitar Hero getting the chop as boy did the whole music game fad get stale fast. I guess Activision a New Guitar Hero every 5 bloody minutes didn't help either.
Ditto with Tony Hawk as that series has been on life support for past several years now and it was about f***ing time that some one did us all a favor by putting it out of its misery.

They also were met with a lukewarm reaction when they eventually were released, but I see where you're coming from. I guess we shall wait and see.

A company dropping a load of it's games in order to make room for more shooters? I'm not even acting shocked sarcastically anymore.

The Tony Hawk franchise seemed pretty destined for heat death at this point, when Activision had Guitar Hero as Neversoft's priority, and had Treyarch focus as being the Call of Duty B-Team. I can safely say that I'd never heard of "Robomodo" in my life.
The whole industry is just in a weird place right now, thanks to so many factors (including Japan's continued migration away from home consoles and towards portables, and ever-rising development costs for console games)

For Guitar Hero, I've always sucked at that game. The only one I actually own is "On Tour: Decades" on the DS (lemme tell you the pratfalls of modifying it for an original DS), and I'm only good at the Beginner mode.
I believe music games have run their course, but "Rock Band" has done a much better job at trying to stay relevant than Guitar Hero.
At least we're not hearing anymore "Let's put in-game ads into our games" being discussed.
