Now, I'm not going to say the guy was a technical master by any means, but it seems to me he gets an unfair wrap on his ring work. Quite a bit of his matches were squashes, yes, but that's what his character was, and what people paid to see. People went crazy for him destroying the Honky Tonk Man in mere seconds. The point is though... he always stepped his game up for bigtime matches. He's had some great matches with Rick Rude, Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, and Ted DiBiase. I just think some are unfair to him.... they love to give him all the blame in subpar matches, but none of the credit in his awesome ones. I say it takes two to tango.

Rick Rude: carried him Macho Man: carried him Ted DiBiase: carried him Hulk Hogan: fluke of a good match at WM6 From what I understand about the WM6 match, Pat Patterson kind of carried them both. My answer is no, he's not. I loved him as a kid because he looked cool, and all I wanted at that time was for the good guy to kick the hell out of the bad guy. Once I got older and wanted something more out of a match, I've just never seen anything out of the guy that made me think he had anything but a good look.

Not himself a good worker, but he could be led with the right guy (as mentioned, Rude, Savage, Ted) and took instruction well (Pat Patterson pretty much laid the WM6 match out spot for spot and it was rehearsed fully, which is more than can be said for a lot of guys. The acid test of that is the Halloween Havoc match, in which Hogan and Warrior without Patterson's oversight managed to put on arguably the worst rematch in history and a candidate for worst main event ever.
I still would maintain that the fact he would be unpredictable and stiff with guys was reckless, and whereas he could be led better than some guys, those guys are rarely known for being potentially dangerous in ring.

So what? A good match is a good match. No one is saying they weren't good matches. The question is whether or not Warrior is underrated as a worker. If he had to be carried to have a good match with anyone, then that would lend credence to the argument that he was not a good worker. The matches can still be good, but simply being in the match doesn't mean he was good.

I personally believe you can't be carried to a great match, I think he did of course need the right opponents, but he did bring his A game in those matches. Say what you want, but the guy at least gave 100%, worked his ass off and help up his side in all of them.

It takes two to have a good match.

His rematch w/ Hogan is a bad example.. you have a WAY past his prime Hogan, in an overbooked debacle.

I would't say he is underated. A good worker needs to be safe and take care of his opponenent. I wouldn't put him in that category. A great worker can have a good match with anybody. Nick Bockwinkel would be an example.
Does that mean I didn't like him? NO. I still like him and can watch his matches to this day.
In all fairness Warrior has never claimed to be a good or great worker even. He claims to be a great entertainer. Which he was during his heyday.
It also doesn't matter if he was bad worker or good one. It's all about selling tickets and he did it very well in his time.

I don't think the Warrior was bad. He gets too much flak and it's undeserved. His character would not work if he was doing a technical style. For his character, he actually had the perfect style IMO as he was pretty fast and exciting. I'm not really sure what people expected from him. He also had some memorable and good matches against Hogan, Savage, Rude and others. Finally, he had more of the non-wrestling stuff down than anyone else like his look, his entrance, his character, charisma and his promos(say what you want but his promos are memorable).
I would rather watch the Warrior than most of today's workers and about 1/2 - 3/4 of the guys of his time. More people should be studying some of the stuff the Warrior doid instead of their favorite japanese or indy wrestler.

Rick Rude: carried him Macho Man: carried him Ted DiBiase: carried him Hulk Hogan: fluke of a good match at WM6 from watching those matches again I've come to this conclusion. Rick Rude: Personally tried to make him look bad (not sure if this is true or not, just my opinion) Macho Man: They naturally geled, we all know the way Savage is, They were a perfect fit Ted Dibiase: said himself he had no problems working Warrior with the exception of there match in Japan Hulk Hogan: They both worked their butts off together and went all out

His squashes weren't a problem of mine. Hell, I love a good squash as long as the squashee is a legit jobber and not someone that should be doing something else.
My problem with Warrior was that he was just really limited. He didn't have any moves that I cared for. He was a lot like Hogan as far as ring work went, just a lot more high energy, which admittedly made him more entertaining to me than Hogan. As a kid, I liked Warrior but he was never my favorite. When it came to his subsequent returns from 1996 onwards, I thought he was just a waste of time.

UWs' skillset:
A.) Looked crazy as hell B.) Acted crazy as hell C.) Conveyed a sense of power D.) Beat the snot out of the bad guys.
Yeah, maybe he could've done more, but why should he have had to? No one else was all that much better back then. We're spoiled now with all these guys that can actually do things. There was a time were we had to merely settle for guys who looked like they could do things. Warrior falls somewhere inbetween.

Ultimate Warrior was a great entertainer, but as a worker he was sub par. He could be carried to a good match, sure, but so could a lot of people who took care of those they were in the ring with better. It's easy to look powerful and impressive when you're not really protecting the people you're in the ring with.

Warrior isn't underrated, he was never that good.
That isn't to say I didn't like him, but to say he was a decent worker is far from correct.
He was very sloppy and he had zero idea on how to properly work a match. He had some great matches, but these were carefully planned and thought out and worked with some great wrestlers.
I like to compare him to Hogan because he is the guy he shared the biggest similarities to. Hogan in my opinion was VERY underrated.
During his big run in the 80s to early 90s, Hogan was an above average worker. His moveset was limited, but he knew how to work a crowd, time his comebacks, and generally selled fantastic against even the most generic of heels. He could make Haku seem like a threat until he hulked up. His matches were always paced very well and told a story. His biggest problem is that eventually the act got a bit old.
Warrior never did those things and he was all over the place with his psychology.

Rick Rude: carried him Macho Man: carried him Ted DiBiase: carried him Hulk Hogan: fluke of a good match at WM6 You can only be 'carried' by your opponent so much in a great to classic wrestlnig match. Warrior had two classics on PPV against Savage, a couple of classics against DiBiase and Rude which are both right up there when it comes to classic matches and probably hios most legandary match, WM6. Was planned from start to finish by Pat Patterson. However Macho Man is said to also plan his matches from start to finish in the same way.
