Pitchfork is horrible, and I say this as someone who likes a LOT of the same music that they do. I think the writing on that site is what most of the people who hate "hipsters" are trying to nail down. They just pile on the purple prose and long-winded diatribes in an attempt to seem smart, but the technique just comes across as stilted and forced. There's no need for their style, it's just an attempt to validate their opinions by seeming "smarter" than the average reader. Me, I'd just like a review that says, "Hey, check out the new Rural Alberta Advantage album. It's pretty rocking." I don't need to know if it's going to fill the meaningless voids in my life. Have a look at Ripfork. I don't think the guy has updated his site recently, but he looks at reviews from the major indie blogs and tears them apart based on the flowery, unnecessary "smartest guy in the room" prose. His stuff is really funny and he hates Ian Cohen, easily Pitchfork's worst writer, as much as I do. I'm gonna check this out. Pitchfork is probably one of the most pretentious sites on the net.

I just think it's amusing to see dudes with those really short shorts and v-neck shirts. I mean, I don't really have a sense of style or anything but it just seems strange to me. Wait...V-necks are hipster? I've been wearing those for the better part of 15 years. Does this mean i'm finally hip? You are indeed wit it.

Pitchfork is terrible. I've actually seen them retroactively scorn albums they gave good reviews to earlier because the band got too popular.

Because of the music I listen to, and the fact that I like PBR as a cheap beer and love Sierra Nevada, I'm often accused of being a hipster.
Yes, the backlash is mighty annoying.

The thing I hate about hipsters is the hypocrisy of it all, they depend so much on being different that when something they were associated with becomes popular they rebel against just because it became popular thereby being influenced by the same mainstream culture they try so hard to be independent from.
Instead of being happy and supporting Arcade Fire after they won a grammy and growing a broader audience, they turn their backs on them and claim "I liked them before they were popular" and "I much prefer their older stuff", oh shut up, just be happy a band you "discovered" became a success which is a lot more then you could say for the other 90% of bands out there.
I go to an art school and believe me I see my fair share of hipsters.

A couple of months ago, a friend of my wife "accused" (for lack of a better word) her of being a hipster due to her love of Queen. "I can't name one Queen song," he said.
True story.
