Okay, we get it. Just because young people have the time, money, and effort to express themselves like such, doesn't mean that you have to go rah-rah about how conformity is better and how they should just be forced to be wage slaves and experience the REAL WORLD as you put it.
Seriously, it's like fancy coffee. I've never actually seem someone order a ridiculously convoluted latte or whatever. I've heard COUNTLESS people kvetching about the sort of people that supposedly do.
Also, I read a rant denigrating world travelers such as young adults that backpack through Europe or stay at hostels or such as being simply stupid white middle class kids with too much money who didn't want to work. All referred to as a sort of hippie-ish "children of the world" as said with a sneer.
I guess a lot of it would have to be resentment, and yes, hipster types can be obnoxiously pretentious, but this backlash is getting even more aggrivatingly obnoxious in itself. I'd rather have first-wave pretension than resentful people being pretentious about pretention.

I still don't believe in the term, or that these people exist. Worst "label" ever.

Backlashes in general get on my nerves. People who dislike Twilight, for instance, seem to spend much more time and energy thinking about it than people who watch it. As someone who genuinely doesn't care either way, it's abrasive as hell.

I had to stop going to one of my favorite bars because it became infested with nothing but hipsters. I don't hate hipsters but a lot of them tend to be douchebags so I just avoid the places they hangout at.

I have no idea what a "hipster" is. Damn kids and their slang It's problematic because the term doesn't really MEAN anything. Most of what people call hipsters would probably more accurately be called scenesters.

Yeah, I agree with the sentiment that haters of a group, culture, fandom, etc. are often a lot more obnoxious than the fandom ever was.

What's with you kids and your damn slang names for everyone?? A scenester is someone who has to be wearing the trendy clothes, the trendy shades and shoes, and listening to the trendy music, and sort of seems like a moth to the flame. Hipster I always thought was supposed to be someone who thought they were ahead of the curve, not ON it.

The average Starbucks customer seems like the average person, from my experience. There is a reason it is so successful - its not like its a niche place.

For all the complaints, I still have no idea what the hell a hipster is besides, "Whatever I want to complain about."

I still don't believe in the term, or that these people exist. Worst "label" ever. Oh, they exist. A town two hours north of me called Bellingham is frigging full of them. And for those saying they don't know what they are, they are people who seem to be trying so hard not to conform that they are basically playing a role rather than being themselves. They only like indy music and indy movies, they wear T-shirts that support products they've never watched/used, and they scoff at "normal" and "commercial" people and ideas. I don't care what anyone says, they're douches.
