1. WWE wants us to believe Triple H and Undertaker are both so iconic that simply putting them in a ring together is enough to sell a big Wrestlemania match.
2. ...but they also know that if they actually want to get people to tune in and be hyped up about this, it's Undertaker they should advertise, not HHH.
I always wonder whether or not the WWE bookers genuinely believe Triple H is a super megastar on the level of Hogan or Austin in the face of all logic or sanity, or if they are aware, deep down, that he's decidedly second-rate, even compared to guys like Cena, and that he needs constant victories and hyping up to keep his heat.
Tonight provided evidence for both possibilities.
At any rate, I suspect some people in Titan Towers will be in for a very rude awakening if this doesn't catch fire the same way HBK/Undertaker did. And all sorts of excuses will be invented for why, ignoring the most obvious one.

HHH's pop was quite a bit bigger than Taker's tonight.
Just sayin.

I'm torn on this matchup. On the one hand, the opening angle for it was VERY well done. I'd be a fool to deny that. But on the other hand....it's just HHH vs. The Undertaker again. Nothing new there.

Fans were chanting for HHH not Taker. I thought that was perfect what they did. Except of course Undertaker missing his cue and coming out early for his entrance...

But on the third freakish mutant hand, it's Undertaker and Triple H. I doubt they'll reach the level of either Undertaker v HBK encounter but they should still be able to put on a very good match. And this match hasn't been done for, what, nine years? So it'll seem fresh.

I don't have high hopes for this. Undertaker is clearly going to be hurting considering it was still unclear whether or not he would even be able to wrestle at the show and most of us have seen just how well a less than game Game fares in the ring.

Undertaker returns every year and HHH was out longer. It's no surprise they chanted for HHH.

Yeah...how many times have we seen this boring matchup. I mean...Taker-HHH AGAIN. Just like Wrestlemania X-7, and uh...well I'm sure they had a match or two at a house show or Raw here and there.

Again as stated Taker has been promo'd for, well ever.
HHH had the "surprise pop".
The match will be average at best, just because I have little evidence from past match-ups between the two it'll knock it out of the park, however if they DO play up the HBK redemption/streak angle it'll at least have some emotional draw.

Meh, not excited. I'd rather see taker against somebody I could see being put over him. I knew HBK would eventualy job too but at-least knew it would be a great match. HHH will put-on a solid match won't wow.

Trips coming out completely sucked my enthusiasm dry for the Taker return.

Far exceeding cena. I'd even say in his day that he was more popular than shawn. I say that as a huge shawn mark. The reaction he got when he returned in 2002 and when he returned tonight is among one of the loudest i've heard. He was pretty much THE guy from late 99 into 2001. He provided one of the most interesting spins on a heel i've ever seen and in 2000 when he dominated,it did better than it had done in previous years. I'm not saying all of it was hunter, but certainly a big part. Id say he is iconic even if you dont like the guy like i do. He's got instantly recognizable theme music and mannerisms. His entrance is one of the most famous in the industry and his finishing move is one of the biggest. And as far as putting them in the ring selling a match,I'd say youre right. And they did a damn good job of it.

I just don't like that both guys have been gone for months and suddenly get a spot on a card that can only fit so many people.
