Mods, if this belongs in (W)rest, feel free to move.
Anybody else sick of hearing this? It seems you can't go through any YouTube videos or really bring up wrestling at ALL without some MMA-hole telling you to stop watching that kiddy crap and go watch Strikeforce or UFC or something. That's usually in addition to assuming, again, that for whatever reason we've been completely oblivious over the past decades since the lid blew off kayfabe and we're still somehow blissfully ignorant of the fact that it is, indeed, staged.
I've watched Raw in a dorm commons area before and some guy that was also there tried to pick apart every single bit of the episode I was watching... Claiming there were wires for the high flying moves that were edited out in post (yes, even though it was live) that every dive to the outside had crash mats just out of view, that the ring was like a mattress, etc etc... Completely glossed over the fact that he'd never watched it and I'd been watching it on and off since before Hollywood Hogan, all while yammering on about how awesome MMA was and that even the worst MMA tomato can could choke out even the biggest wrestler, etc etc.
It's just so aggravating. There aren't that many other fandoms I can think of that take so much crap over things being 'fake' and have so many conclusions jumped to and inaccurate assumptions than wrestling...

Yeah,I've ran into a few of those people,I just ignore them and move along;there is no arguing with them, because they're always going to be right in their minds.

Yeah a lot of boxing fans actually like pro wrestling and we were discussing Taker vs HHH last week. For some reason MMA fans likes to putdown any combat sport that isn't MMA. It's really funny to watch

I would watch some ''real fighting'' if it wasn't rather boring. MMA-holes are among the bane of my life.

I don't see how MMA is "real fighting" when it's got a very complex system of rules and regulations, and uses a point system where you will do substantially better by using takedowns over actually kicking someone's ass.
It's a ritualized combat sport, but it's not real fighting. Real fighting on the other hand is incredibly violent and brutal, and absolutely lawless. And that's about the opposite of MMA. I'm not saying that to invalidate MMA, either (I don't religiously follow it, but I pay some attention), but to claim that ritualized combat sports are better than theatre and that the former is "real fighting" is nothing short of pretentious.

You could say this, but you would be wrong. Not necessarily. This entirely depends on the wrestlers and fighters, but I'm gonna give the edge to the guys who train to legit choke and tap people out.

I watch both, so it doesn't bother me a bit.

You could say this, but you would be wrong. Not necessarily. It really depends on what you call a pro wrestler. Is Sakuraba a wrestler? Or mixed martial artist? Because if you count him as a pro wrestler, then he's kicked all sorts of ass in MMA. Same goes for Severn and Shamrock, who both started as pro wrestlers.

You could say this, but you would be wrong. Not necessarily. Yeah, I could see this going half and half. I'm sure a couple of MMA guys would absolutely wipe the floor with someone like, well, let's say The Miz. Not a slight against the guy, just an example. Now on the flipside of this, let's put an MMA guy in the cage with Kane. I think the outcome would be a little different. So in short, yes, there's going to be an MMA fighter who could demolish a WWE SuperStar, but there's going to be a few WWE SuperStars who will do the same. MMA still produces horrible clothing, either way.

Unless they specifically take time to learn MMA, a pro wrestler will get his ass kicked by an MMA fighter every time.

I figure, I could pay a crapload of money to see two guys fight for what could be a minute and a half, or I could pay the same amount and watch a "fight" I know is going to at least last long enough to give me my money's worth.

Also, It all depends if it's just a fistfight or an MMA fight really. I mean, how's locking in an armbar going to help in a real fight.

No offense to any guys who like MMA, but what's intimidating about a one minute hug?

Having a size advantage doesn't always mean they'll win. See Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez.

The thing is, the main reason that I like WWE over MMA and all its variants is that it's staged. I couldn't care less which of two people are best at making the other hurt. But two people who can make it look like they're having a fight while doing their best to protect the other and not hurt them at all? That's skill, in my mind.
To me, saying that something is less enjoyable because it's fake is like saying that instead of going to see the latest Friday The 13th movie, I have to go and find a snuff film. Fake is good.
