To the people who think that Martial Arts won't help you in a real fight: That is complete bulls*** and you don't know what you're talking about. I train in Martial Arts, but I don't train to become an MMA fighter. I learn self-defense so that if I'm ever unfortunately in a fight, I know how to stop it. I train for real life situations. I don't go in there and they say, "Ok, we're sparring today. Make sure you get takedowns for points, try to get the other guy to tap out and remember the rules." I train and spar like I would in a real fight: There are no rules. Of course, we don't try to go in there and kill each other, there are still limitations, but it's as close to training for a real as possible.
I know that I have the ability to, if I were in a bar and someone tried to hit me with a bottle, I would be able to block the attack and neutralize him. Is there a 100% guarantee that it's going to work? No, because as I said earlier, s*** happens, everyone can make mistakes. But say he actually does hit me with something, I train for endurance so that he doesn't do any more damage to me. After he hits me with a weapon, I can get back up and use my knowledge in fighting to stop him.
Street fighters are nothing compared to Martial Artists. Like I said, there are no rules, but we realize that. In a real fight, someone might try to punch me in the dick or bite my ear off. I train to defend against scenarios like that. My punches and kicks will do more damage than the average person. I'm not going to try for a takedown for no reason because I'm not in UFC (UFC is NOTHING like a real fight), but if I see the opportunity and it makes sense at that moment in the fight, I'll go for it. I'll then try to use armbars, chokes, any submissions and try to break bones or get my opponent to pass out. I use strategy, I don't just go out there and try to make it look pretty.
And hell, let's say I get into a fight with a professional MMA fighter. Now, I'm nowhere near an expert in Martial Arts, but I'm trained to defend against even some of his techniques.
I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all here btw, I'm just using my personal experiences as an example.
1) TapouT douchebags are the worst kind of people. they think any MMA fighter who doesnt go in swinging haymakers is a pussy. They also think Jiu Jitsu os just gay sex.
2) People who dont think Martial Arts aid you in a real fight dont know anything about Martial Arts. Retrospectively, before I trained kickboxing, I realise now that I had no idea how to throw a punch.
3) I agree about the UFC not being a real fight. Its sport fighting. Peple say UFC fighters would get their ass kicked on the street. No chance, they specialise in what to use in the cage. Outside of that, they would use a heck of a lot more, especially the Brazilians. Theyre savages.
Good post.
You too, I couldn't agree more with everything you just said. People who are smart enough can know how to fight without learning Martial Arts, but they don't know the BEST way to fight. UFC fighters know the best way to fight, and yes, they are used to fighting with rules, but in a real fight, they're going to stop holding back and be just as mean as the other person will be.
